Just like Iridescence, the album was definitely better than the singles.
EDIT 10/6/2019: My perspective on this band are changing more and more whenever I come back to, or attempt to, their music. The singles kind of kill this record and hinders the indie rap focus of this record. I’m glad it came together way better in the end but I can’t just listen to the whole record when I’m in the mood for the good, sugar sweet parts when these wierd trap like songs are jus there. ... read more
I feel like this album is kind of a fraud. I feel like everything he does on here has some kind of ulterior motive.
I feel like Nirvana really expanded the Grunge sound they have popularized and sort of pioneered on Nevermind. This album has more variation, a much more rugged aesthetic, and much more well-thought out composition and song writing. This album is pretty off the wall, and is probably Nirvana’s best album. Kurt seemed more willing to push boundaries that he hadn’t quite crossed before which is admirable.
Top chartting record in Hell. Lingua Ignota is extreme, featuring shreaking vocals that often clip the audio. The intrumentals are these loose orchestral fragments that are engulfed by walls of industrial sounds and ambients. Though my impressions of here bocal style is that it’s a tad on the nose, the overall soundscape and production makes for one hell of a train/car/airplane ride...
The beat sounds like your run of the mill trap producer hear about JPEGMAFIA, listened to Vengeance, then tried to imitate that. Its just some regular, gritty trap production that doesn't quite bite as hard as it would have a few years ago. Despite this, JPEGMAFIA actually delivers one of his best feature verses and Maidza proves herself to be a good hook writer. Additionally, the bits of metallic flavoring layered between transitions is pretty cool.
There is something just so off about it. Something about how Yorke sings or parts if the production just feels off. His voice sounds decayed and sort of misspplaced. Despite this, the electronic production is mostly great. Reminds me a lot of Kid A era Radiohead, of course, but with a much more buzzing and synthetic twist. The songs on here morph and progress like a club mix, creating this sort a trippy kleidiscope of texture.
Every album Vince Staples has dropped so far has had a different style, but out ofall of them I would be the upmost dissapointed if he became a trap rapper. FM!, to me, was the last truly good trap album to me, but I don't want to see him do it again. This song is pretty repetitive.
Young thug has one of the best voices in hip-hop. It's extremely passionate for what he does topically, and it is incredibly distinct. However, his trap production style often makes me super impatient. I can get with some ear-wormy, textured trap music with a good 808 and hard melody, but for Young Thug his biggest hits for me really depend on his vocal performance or when he kind of strays from what he's used to.

The re-prod is way off, I could've done a better job there is literally a video on genius with the entire beat, 808 and all.
Despite having a kind of laughable hook and basic song structure compared to the last one, I did like the perfomances on this one. There was little chemistry, but it kind of played out like a support group where the members rehearsed their problems with their own styles and sort of shared each unique perspective of why they think they are morally flawed. The hook is also kind of catchy, but too edgy for my tastes. I think Joba had the best part, sort of hinting at this skitzophrenic type minds ... read more
I’m kind of glad this one was completely meaningless because it actually showcased more creativity and quirkiness then that and a whole shit pile of melodramatic emotions. The instrumental borrows trendy aesthetics and combines them with some unique flavoring and more organic sounds. This song is sort of like this brag of things of value exclusively to him which was dorky but not very sappy. Yeah he referrences his ex girl friend like once but that’s like his tick.
I found the vocal perfomance on this song to be fittingly ugly. Its pretty bad. The instrumental is fine. I think this is also one of his strongest tracks conceptually.
Now I’m confused like if Hobo Johnson wasn’t such an incel dweeb he could probably make some clever, passionate work. The production is flavorful and sporadic, kind of like his character he portrays, but the way his character portrays being unstable is often cringeworthy and corny as its masked with this obsessed, quirky “nice guy.” His delivery is not as painstaking on this track, besides the moments of fork and plate whispering, and his melodramatic theme of “me ... read more
This style of chaotic, mind numbing mixing may work if this didn't clash with the stlye of the last two singles. The intro and outro are sloppy and abrupt, the random verse placements that hit the ground running and then just stop, and these string samples that just stack on top of eachother, verses just thrown in sloppily... Its so wonky in kind of a bad way. The beat is uninspired, but Matt and Bearface did kind of go hard like I wanted. I'm also glad Joba was much more lowkey with a kind of ... read more
A1 Production, love the noise moments and the cluttered song structure
the writting is often clever but I feel like at this point Jpegmafia should expand more topically. Loving the creativity and consitency but if Jpegmafia stepped into a whole new level of songwritting, this next album could crush Vetera- I mean be a complete dissapointment.
edit 8/19/2019:
after watching the Kenny beats is dissapointed video, I feel more content with this song lyrically and conceptually. Its sort of ... read more
First of, shave off that damn mullet Joba. Second off, the verses and composition of this track is very similar to born again except the melodies and vocal performances were a tad more interesting. The horns are passable, the vocal effects are pretty damn cool, shares a lot of the same vibes with the last track but feels like just another throwaway single. The verses weren’t very well written, the beat wasn’t very adventurous, and the overall product is a lot more style over ... read more
Peggy came in with the baby voice carti flow... yeesh...
Catchy trap influenced banger, but nothing special in the lyricism. The wordplay is solid on Peggy's part, and the flows/deliveries were sleak. The song has this cool variation throughout, whether the vocal splices towards the end or the added spacy chords above the bassline, yet the song is rather stripped down and slimpistic, which is fine. Reminds me a lot of new Brockhampton single, except this one had a better hook and a more ... read more
I reckon Logic is internally suffering right now. No amount of money or delusional stanning can lift up the deep down feeling of sorrow since his wife left him and his musics further nosedive into complete monotony. This song isn't a flex or some sort of mockery to the modern rap game, it is the representation of the bat shit insanity that is the inner workings of Logics mind. The song is repetitive, annoying, and mind-numbingly cringeworthy. The beat is bland and a mere loop of the same ... read more
hope this was just another throw-away single. Its kind of like a return to their older form with much quirkier verses and production without the charisma of the Saturation trilogy's highlights.
Conceptually, this album gains my respect because its the first rap album of its kind really ever to my knowledge. But with some elegance and obvious maturity, this album has very little charm, often times bland production drowning out its greatest moments, and often filler verses that bring little significant narrative to the plot. Not only is the writing often lackluster, but Rich Brian goes back on some of his worst tendencies. His braggadocio comes of as tacky, not very charming or ... read more
