On their debut LP, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart do a great job of slimming down the often bloated and overdone sound of indie pop into a brief 35 minutes of all of the genre's best qualities. Most of the songs here fall right on the cusp of being considered dream pop, having an atmospheric and heavy feeling, while also being upbeat and utilizing the classic indie drumming and guitar techniques. The band showcases a strong 80's influence in both their vocal and instrumental performances. ... read more
Remember my last review when I said that thots were the main consumers of Nav's music? Well there's been some time since his first release and guess who are still the only people listening to him. Thots. Fuck this shit.
There was a point in my life some years ago where I listened to both Torches and Supermodel daily for multiple months. These guys were my favorite band, not because I thought they were some sort of artistic musical gods, but because they could simply make catchy music that had some depth to it, which especially came out on Supermodel. Now Foster the People goes directly into the stream of music that they used to push against, with heavily-electronic beats and the most trite and lifeless ... read more
A lyrical and instrumental improvement from Born To Die, but Ultraviolence also shows how Lana relies on one sound to carry her throughout an album that was too long for it's own good. Two or three tracks should have been cut to slim down the project in order to make the album seem a little bit more varied than it actually is. Her songwriting is matured compared to how it was, but there are still some pretty stupid lines. And with the production, which I can understand why some would say ... read more
All of the same that ws on Born To Die, but more drawn out and even worse lyrics. Some of the instrumental arrangements were interesting though, and brought a little something new.
fav tracks: Blue Velvet, Body Electric
Looking past the bland lyrical content, Born To Die was an extremely surprising listen for me. Lana's voice, while it is pretty whispery and drawn out, has some sort of appeal that I can't really pinpoint. I can listen to this album over and over, but it's still far from any pop masterpiece that I heard praises of back when it was released.
fav tracks: Born To Die, Summertime Sadness, Carmen
AnCo boldly moves into new territories musically, but doesn't fully explore the vast range of ideas that they present. There are a few great songs and a bunch of okay songs, so the record as a whole never truly takes off, but gives a mere taste of what could be.
fav tracks: Slippi, Too Soon
These fucking ad-libs all over the song, along with a beat that doesn't fir Del Rey's voice at all, cause this song to end up being a total flop, even with the okay A$AP Rocky verse.
I don't know if I have ever had an album grow on me as much as Hounds of Love has. Yes, it has some of the basic 80's synths and song structures, but there is so much passion and emotion put into these tracks. Kate Bush's vocals are impeccable, and put over the sweet, dreamy instrumentals which were 100% produced by her, the final result is a sensationally beautiful album.
fav tracks: Cloudbusting (standout), The Big Sky, Waking the Witch, Jig of Life
Too bloated for its own good with too little to say. There are some good songs on this album, but whenever I listen to it I rarely finish because of the overly-long run time and the lack of interesting ideas past the first few songs.
fav track: In India You
EDIT: All of the comments I've gotten since changing the rating to 25 only prove that Tyler's fanbase is absolute fucking cancer. I actually wrote a longer review of this album for a different website at the time of release. Read this instead of continuing to make dumbass comments on this review: https://soulfeederweb.com/tyler-the-creator-flower-boy-album-review/
I was really harsh on Cherry Bomb, to say the least. It was a messy and poorly produced album that had no real sense of ... read more
Horror Show is the obvious standout for me, Danny Brown can't do much wrong as of recent. However, this EP doesn't really bring anything in that is different from The Mountain Will Fall, which is fine, but these seem like last minute tracks or throwaways that DJ Shadow wanted to put out. Still a fun project that is a short and sweet listen.
By the way, thanks to everyone for 200 followers. This is awesome as hell and I appreciate everyone on this site.
Haim's first LP was fantastic. They had youthful charm combined with infectious pop-rock instrumentation, which resulted in one of the most accessible and enjoyable albums of 2013. After a long hiatus, the three sisters return with their sophomore LP, Something to Tell You, which, judging by the singles and song titles, is not much of a change.

When I gave this album its first listen, I had no idea what I was getting into. I hadn't listened to the singles and I hadn't looked up the featured artists or producers for any of the tracks; all the information on the album that I had was from various reviews that I had read, but nothing that gave me much information. As soon as Crabs In a Bucket began to pick up, I knew that this was about to be completely different from any other hip hop release of this year.

Really don't understand the dislike for this. I mean sure, this is nothing special and can be a bit grating I guess, but there is absolutely nothing horrible on the album anywhere. Pretty solid actually.
Interesting take on the druggy trap sound, a lot slower and less structured than most of the similar albums. If this came out in 2014-2015 it would have been huge, but Lucki Eck$ was a little late.
