bjorks debut record is exactly what the title makes it out to be: a debut. her classic electronic pop style is in a much more juvenile and imperfect state on this record, which makes it very conforming and bland. the songs go on for a little longer than they should, and the lyrics are really nothing special. overall, this was an enjoyable but bland art pop record, however I really appreciate it because it led to some of the masterpieces that bjork released later in her career.

kendrick lamar released what really seems to be the first brilliant hip hop album of the 2010's. kanye had an absolutely terrific LP in 2010's MBDTF, however despite all of the attention it got, there is no denying that good kid, m.A.A.d. city is a more creative and innovative album, as well as a very intriguing look into life as a kid in compton, california.
the first aspect of this record that stood out to me was the snippets of lamar's life that were found on many tracks throughout the ... read more
black one is a very dark, gloomy, and atmospheric album, but i cant see much to it aside from that. some of the songs went on for way too long without progressing, and the vocals were drowning under the heavy guitars. definitely worth a listen strictly because of how huge this feels, almost creating an environment on its own, which forces you to immerse yourself into it.
despite this being a great hip hop record, it isn't all that it's cracked up to be (at least from what i was told by others). should this record not have had 2pac's name plastered onto it, it wouldnt have been too successful. even with that being said, most of the lyrics are pretty great. 2pac weaves together stories and descriptions of hardships he and many african american people faced at this point in history. the production was very disappointing, nothing was really noticeable, and i ... read more
EDIT: I'm keeping the score the same, but I legitimately think that Destroyed by Hippie Powers is one of the best rock songs of this decade so far, and my favorite of this year.
so after revisiting this project a few times after my initial listen... i really love it. will toledo's lyrics are very direct and from the heart, which is the standout factor that is present on this album. will describes problems with depression and relationships, along with social and internal dilemmas. his voice ... read more
you could tell by the song titles that this is gonna be a god awful album...
i was expecting bangers and straight up energy from this tape, and i guess i got that; however there is very little offered by the underachievers that is unique or different. they sound like the tens of rappers that are all over the mainstream now that dont really give much personality. i thought that there were definitely a few moments here and there that were pretty sweet, but nothing too outstanding.
after hearing about the death of Megadeth's drummer from this time period, i decided to what was praised as their best work. and it really does kick ass. i think this record had the best instrumentation of Megadeth's career, but the lyrics were solidly weaker than they were on Peace Sells. definitely worth a listen for anybody into metal or hard rock, rust in peace is fucking raw.
enter the ninja is a delightful hybrid of electronic and hip hop music, but the rest of the album really doesnt hold up in terms of lyrics and production.
this is where all electronic music from the 2010's is rooted from. untrue shows the dark and ambient side of electronic, with slow and somber beats that set a dreary and emotional tone. this album keeps a continuous style all the way through, and each song is almost as if it represents something that actually happens in real life.

I expect more from clams casino, but this is still a decent track that gives me a bit of hope for his upcoming LP.
after hearing this was one of the best albums of all time, i was anticipating listening to trout mask replica very much, and i finally got around to it. and all i have in my mind right now is: what. the. fuck. im all for experimental and unkempt music, but this is TOO unkempt. many of the lyrics, as odd and metaphorical as they are, really just come off as a load of bullshit and uninspired blabber. i really dont intend to be a contrarian, but i cant get into this LP.
with a very energetic and exciting project, tony molina still seems to fall short with dissed and dismissed. the instrumentation is great, balancing pop and rock. but the lyrics are where im left wanting more, and where the record really suffers. still a great LP, probably the best 11 minute album i've listened to.
fav tracks: dont come back, nowhere to go
EDIT: Huge grower. This album captures every fathomable emotion in humans and every note epitomizes their darkly comedic lyrics.
some of these lyrics are a bit too abstract and zany for me, but i really enjoyed this. the neutral milk hotel influences are obvious, and a good thing, because these guys make the best folk-rock music, right next to NMH. i went through some singles and other releases from AJJ, and i see a lot of potential in them; possibly a master piece that challenges in the ... read more
the debut LP for neutral milk hotel is one that had to have been made (in order for us to get the legendary piece that is in the aeroplane over the sea) but is, frankly, average. jeff mangum had yet to have developed both his singing and skills on the guitar. even with that being said, this is still much better than many other indie rock acts of this time and should not be brought down for that.

the magnum opus of notorious metal band iron maiden's career is their fourth album, powerslave. not only is there a near perfect composition of relentless guitars, drums, and bass guitars being thrown right in your face, but there are stories told on each track that really blow my mind. there are descriptions of ancient duels between warriors and other events going on in previous time periods that i could only imagine. and with both the vocals and instrumentals working alongside each other, ... read more
from two very different musical acts comes a record that i had at first believed that it couldnt have been any more than average. but i got much more than i expected. the mix of BADBADNOTGOOD's smooth jazz instrumentations and Ghostface Killah's rough and abrasive voice created a very unique cross-breed of genres that i never thought i would come around. Ghostface's lyrics arent the best, but theyre far from bad; in fact i thought he had some pretty clever lines at least once or twice per ... read more
