at least cherry glazerr showed some progression in their music. still not all that great though. the lyrics are pretty thoughtless, and the singer's awfully monotone voice doesnt help either. the instrumentation is the only redeeming quality, as it is rather enjoyable and varied throughout the entire album.
teenage angst in one record... shitty lyrics and extremely bland instrumentation. i cant see appeal anywhere
the beastie boys update their sound with a more modern method of production and mixing. nothing else is too big of a change to me, but the production is fantastic for the most part. lyrically, a very average at best project, but aside from that there isnt anything too bad about this.
fav tracks: too many rappers, say it
there is nothing i can add that cannot be explained by the cover art. fucking magical record.
the quintessential rock record for the 1960's. jimi hendrix's genius on the guitar shines through to create a purely psychedelic and well rounded "experience". his lyrics come off as very personal, yet they encompass such a large scale of events and emotions that many can relate to what he says.
hendrix is still developing his sound on this record, but it is far from rough. in fact, many of the tracks sound very thoroughly thought out and written, but they dont match the same ... read more
yeah, this is good, but it seems much too late for this to have been created. smile would have been a groundbreaking album, if it were created at its point of conception in the 60's. however, the updated smile that Wilson put together in the 2000's really feels off and inauthentic. now, im not saying these arent totally awesome songs, because some of them really are. but the entire personality of the album is very forced and i cant get into it.

full of remixes and sloppy throwaway tracks. nothing is worth checking out and honestly this mixtape is a huge disappointment. cover is a ripoff of Danny Browns XXX as well.
the style of production quickly became a bit too minimal and abstract for me. definitely a massive and complex album, however it really is not my kind of electronic.
need to listen again, as i dont think i really took it all in in just one listen.
this album holds some of the best and most played rock songs of all time, yet it still fails to work as a cohesive and well rounded piece. i understand the praise though. this record is fun and rebellious, but just cant live up to the 3-4 songs that made guns n roses the legendary band they are today.
fav tracks: sweet child o' mine, welcome to the jungle
on their first full length project, japanese breakfast releases a very easy to listen to and enjoyable set of tracks. coming from a, what seems to be to me, degrading dream pop scene, this LP was very refreshing, and reassuring to me that there is still more to be discovered in the genre. the singing and lyrics on this album were not too amazing; they were pretty run of the mill, but the instrumentation is what made me continue to listen. the strong guitar influence and minimal use of drums ... read more
one of the better hip hop albums that the 80's had to offer. the production, while almost entirely sample based, was stellar. it had elements of rock, funk, and pop all put together into a quilt of beats that perfectly suited the beastie boys upbeat and energetic style of rapping. the lyrics didnt impress me all too much, but there were definitely moments where i went back to listen again, specifically on the tracks that told a story. personally, i would not say that this is one of the best ... read more
before this, all post malone was really known for was white iverson, which is probably his best and most impressionable track he has released thus far. on his new mixtape august 26th, nothing is too great, and the production he had on his older soundcloud releases is nowhere to be found. post malone's voice remains stagnant in his light falsetto through the whole album, making it kind of boring. the first half of the tape was very decent; rnb infused hip hop that was pretty fun to listen to. ... read more
obviously, after hearing this album, either kanye was heavily influenced by chance's gospel style (chance worked a ton on tlop) or chance was inspired by kanye. regardless of which is true, this tape sounds like a much cheesier version of the life of pablo. much of this just doesnt work with what chance showed to be his style on previous projects. i really, really wanted to like this, but i really cant bring myself to find any super-great moments here. chance's singing and rapping are ... read more
on his first full length album in years, aesop rock continues his streak of brilliant lyricism and impeccable flows. he has some very clever wordplay on all of his projects, and the impossible kid is not an exception. rock mixes in conscious lines with comedic ones, and they come together and create a very... unique blend. what i found to be underwhelming, as i do on all aesop rock projects, was the production. it just didnt seem to match his voice; i think beats that are faster and heavier ... read more
probably the highlight of a very impressive career, david bowie's fourth LP is a masterpiece. he incorporates pop music as well as folk into this album, which makes bowie's signature glam rock sound more appealing to the mainstream as well as those who are more into indie rock and smaller acts within that genre. his lyrics are flawless; talking about various subjects and ideas in a very abstract way (kooks, eight line poem). what he said, and how he projected his voice in so many tones is ... read more
i originally gave this a 63, simply because i thought the album was boring and dry. now i see that there really was a lot of artistic intent put into this record. for the time it was released, it has a really original and innovative style to it. with the large majority of the album being the rock style that made radiohead famous, there is also an incorporation of electronic music. ok computer's lyrics are very inspired and surprisingly one of my favorite parts of this record. as a whole, ... read more
radiohead's sophomore effort is one that will be forever a landmark in the alternative rock scene. not only does it comtinue the standard rock sound that was on their debut, but it carries into the art-rock style of performing that became the dominant force of later work like kid a and ok computer. there are obvious folk rock influences as well (high and dry) which expand the audience to the largest possible. yorke's singing was as beautiful as ever; he flowed with the melodies with such ... read more
action bronson's personality shines through on his first major label album. the beats range from rock-samples and loops of various instruments (a large amount of pianos) to synths and the usual hip hop production of today. honestly this album gave me everything that i was expecting from action bronson: energy, clever lyricism, and something that stands out from the rest of the crowd.
