Skepta - Konnichiwa
53

someone please tell me what records made this guy famous, because telling from this, i cant believe it. very lackluster release from the up and coming grime scene of this year.

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
82

EDIT: I have yet to go back through AMSP in its entirety since my first couple listens after it dropped. Still very good, but hasn't stuck with me like a few other releases of this year have.

the continuously innovative, and arguably one of the best bands of all time, Radiohead releases a new record that comes almost out of nowhere, although they announced a tour and mysteriously deleted their internet presence. and what came from this commotion is one of the greatest albums of the ... read more

Drake - Hotline Bling
72

one of the better drake songs and an enjoyable pop hit from 2015.

Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus
89

underrated 90's hip hop. these lyrics were near perfect, with an abundance of social commentary embedded into each bar, coming from both el-p and bigg jus. each clever anecdote or piece of imagery is so much different and so much, to put it frankly, better than many of the other rapper's work from this time. as far as lyrical content goes, this is perfect. the only aspect of this album that i wasnt super impressed with was the production. i was expecting some classic work from el-p on the ... read more

Radiohead - Daydreaming
81

hyped for this album now

Kevin Gates - Islah

i got 2 phones!!!

and seriously this is why pitchfork cannot be trusted. fucked up reviewing system.

Danny Brown - The Hybrid
79

the hybrid presents a rougher, more scattered danny brown than what is found on his more recent projects. however, this is also the first time that his talent on the mic is shown to fans, and his vocal skills are in great form. many of his lyrics are juvenile and forgettable, but the get to be a lot more conscious and personal in the 2nd half (as he almost always splits albums between carefree party tracks and tracks about his life and experiences). i was really digging the production on ... read more

Slint - Spiderland
100

EDIT: yeah i really misunderstood this at first. it's really weird and unorthodox, but the atmosphere that this album gives is unreal.

not really sure how i feel about this album. it definitely had some incredible moments, but there were some really weird changes of pitch that caught me off guard, along with some of the spoken word, which seemed out of place. great album, but i think ill have to listen a few more times before i can form a well-rounded opinion.
fav tracks: breadcrumb trail

Radiohead - Burn the Witch
88

never been super big on radiohead, but this song is awesome. will definitely listen and re-listen to their discography before the new album

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
88

a larger-than-life glam rock epic that could only be executed by ziggy himself. this is an album that revolutionized the rock genre and how artists told entire stories within their music.

fav tracks: moonage daydream, starman

Sturgill Simpson - A Sailor's Guide to Earth
81

sturgill simpson releases an album that gives some much needed creativity and emotion to the country genre. i have never been into country music at all; i find it to be really obnoxious and brash. however, a sailor's guide to earth is anything but that. simpson brings in different styles of music on here, soul, classical, and even grunge (on his cover of in bloom). together they create a record that is some of the most unique music this year. granted, its still a country album, and has ... read more

Fever Ray - Fever Ray
90

without a doubt some of the best production that has ever hit my ears. fever ray is the pinnacle of dark, yet airy and ethereal synthpop.
fav tracks: seven, triangle walks, concrete walls,

Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
84

so a year after jenny death, the newest death grips album is released after months of anticipation. it might be their most psychotic and abrasive release yet, with heavy synths and drums, and some of steffan burnett's most cohesive and all around interesting lyrics. each song is pretty brief, in fact the longest is only 3:12, which is a huge change from the 6 minute songs that were scattered around jenny death.
what truly shines on bp is the production. there are some very hard, industrial ... read more

Drake - Views
35

drake has been one of, if not the, biggest and most popular rappers of the past 2 years or so. and hes had a very solid discography so far, especially with his surprise album that released last year, if youre reading this its too late. 14 months later, drake drops another studio album where the darker production and more meaningful lyrics are absent. views is an album that was, as it appears to me, was created to appeal to the widest range of listeners possible. drake sings for many of the ... read more

dvsn - Sept. 5th
68

there really isnt much to say about this album. the vocals were very mediocre; not necessarily bad but just nothing special. however the production is where sept 5th shines. the smooth and sensual synths create a dreamy fantasy that most modern rhythm and blues albums fail to possess. it still doesnt make for an amazing album, however this is still definitely worth a listen, as its something that almost everyone can come to like in some way.
fav tracks: sept 5th, hallucinations

Mort Garson - Mother Earth's Plantasia
73

came across this on soundcloud and glad i did. its a really quirky and unorthodox electronic album that changes flow multiple times across the 30 minutes that it encompasses. plantasia holds some very chill and smooth synths that i think are very under appreciated in modern ambient music.
if you really want to experience this album to the fullest, dig a hole about 5 feet deep, put yourself inside of it, and play this on a speaker at ground level. eventually you will take root and become a ... read more

David Bowie - David Bowie [Space Oddity]
77

unfortunately, this album is mainly known for bringing one of bowies best and most successful songs, space oddity, into the world. however, although that is the best song, this album offers more than just the title track. the instrumental work was pretty underwhelming, but the lyrical content was where this LP really shined. the stories told on these songs had me constantly paying attention without ever really losing interest. obviously this is far from bowies best work, but it shoes some ... read more

DIIV - Is the Is Are
39

reverb the reverb are?
boring the boring are?
seriously, this was the most manufactured and boring dream pop project i have listened to. the guitar work just became a continuous loop of the same basic chords, and the vocals did absolutely nothing to fix that issue. they were also bland and uninspired. a few moments came up here and there that i thought were alright, but nothing was worth going back to.

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
92

so i was trying to think of something to say, but i really have no words to describe this album. its absolutely breathtaking.
fav tracks: heaven or las vegas, wolf in the breast, frou-frou foxes in midsummer fires
