some of the most socially relevant music ever. this goes hand-in-hand with NWA and what they said about unfair treatment of black people. there are bangers, and there are tracks with some deep lyrics that you just have to sit back and listen to. at times i felt that the production started to sound the same, but the rhythm changed a bit.
fav tracks: welcome to the terrordome, burn hollywood burn, power to the people, fear of a black planet, fight the power.
EDIT: not really as memorable as i thought it was, purely because of the massive run time, but this is definitely still a beauty.
a true beauty of an album. the instrumentals are the best of the year, and the length of the album made a lasting feel to the listeners. the lyrics and all of the production just made a true classic of an album.
fav tracks: bring the sun / toussaint l'ouverture, she loves us, nathalie neal
sooo repetitive. i loved fetty wap's singles released throughout the summer, leading up to the album, and was really anticipating this album. it's still gonna do great because of the household name that wap is now, but it's all the same stuff. the best songs on the LP were the singles that were previously released, all of the others seem to just be basic tracks that have similar themes and lyrics. i wanted to enjoy this album, but going through 77 minutes of his crooning and whine-like ... read more
rage against the machine is a trailblazer album that changed the overall sound of music. with zack de la rocha rapping over the hard metal sounds, ratm showed that two very different genres can be successfully mixed. the political themes that were discussed throughout this album really made an impact on me when listening, and the instrumentals were extremely well executed. a band like this is one that really only comes around once in every few decades.

rick ross' best and most underrated album. the upbeat, jazz-influenced production was very consistent on this LP, giving it an enjoyable sound, that;s not drowned out by the unnecessary "maybach music" samples and heavy bass that can be found in ross' newer projects. the lyrics weren't bad at all either, and were pretty consistent throughout. a few of the features disappointed me, like T.I., but they weren't awful. a very well put-together project, many are quick to judge when ... read more
what an album... the variation on this project was just perfect. there were heartfelt songs like roses and hey mama, but there were also more upbeat songs like touch the sky and we major. the jazzy production was very fitting to the theme and vocals of this LP. my only complaint is that the skits were a little unnecessary. i liked the input of them, but they didn't seem to fit what was being said in the tracks before and after them. a really really enjoyable listen.

was nice, but waaaayy overhyped. i think drake did good, so did future, but i expected more from drake and less from future. drake still outshined future, but not by much. both were solid performances, but this was a very overhyped "tape"(and i say "tape" because it was released as an album, not a mixtape). there were a few really good tracks, but it wasn't too cohesive as a whole, which to me, is a deal breaker for an album.

if there is one album that can be solely described as beautiful, this is it. each song is an intricate piece of art, the instrumentals equally intriguing as the lyrics. the songs were very upbeat and happy, all of them very well produced. i am really not sure how i should review this, as i am at a loss for words. there aren't too many albums that i give a 100 but this is the one that really deserves it. this LP will never be forgotten and could go down as one of the most original and ... read more
a nice little one track drop. its like 10 minutes long or something but it flows so nicely and shows so much emotion from earl.
future, to me, is an acquired taste. i like his features on travis scott and a$ap rocky's last LPs and thought that this would be similar to those verses he had(i know its hard to judge an album on 2 verses and a chorus but those are the only things that stuck out to me from him). i am not a fan of future's old work as well. and i didnt hate this album, i think it was just mediocre. i got bored. there were a couple outstanding tracks that i really enjoyed, but the themes of the songs were ... read more
EDIT: Travis Scott was a fluke. DBR and Rodeo are terrific albums that show a colorful and experimental side to trap music. Birds in the Trap was a bit more digestible for the average listener but Travis' creative side was present. The more successful Travis Scott became, the worse his music got, and not a minuscule amount, significantly worse and less adventurous. I really hate that when I tell someone I listen to Travis Scott and they say "Me too" we're pretty much talking about ... read more
insanely well put together r&b/pop album from young fathers. the social meanings behind some tracks are very powerful, and they go hand in hand with today's issues (police corruption, violence, etc). i really like the hooks on each track, almost all were very catchy, and the production was nice as well, not the best but not the worst either. this LP had a lot of very upbeat and happy songs and a really good flow to it.
fav tracks: 27, liberated, dare me, still running
EDIT: original review makes me cringe.
i really can't get enough bon iver. each song is a painting in your mind and has a really beautiful feeling to it. vernon's vocals have a soothing sensation that is different from anything i have ever listened to. the slow and quiet instrumentals give the perfect background to the lyrics.
each song is equally beautiful, however i think that beach baby was the weakest on this EP.
this was a really nice listen. Lupe had some brilliant lyrics, with eloquent flow and really superb delivery. his overally performance in this LP was exceptional. however, the production disappointed me. it worked i guess, but there were no beats that caught my attention or really improved on the delivery of the raps, as some good beats can do. i didn't really care for many of the features on this album either, but i think Nikki Jean(on all of her songs) and Ab-Soul did the best out of ... read more
EDIT: I have listened to this album numerous times in the past month, as I realized how little I had gone back to it. This is the more fun and energetic version of Madvillainy. I might like it a little bit more, but time will tell.
doom never fails to amaze me. this had some great raps and equal production. in my opinion, the skits of aqua teen hunger force were my favorite out of all the samples and cartoon sounds that doom has used in his albums, these gave the album a lighthearted feel. ... read more
with her first strictly pop album, i was not disappointed by taylor swift. she had some really strong hooks and catchy instrumentals. her lyrics stayed within the same range she has always had, not exactly shallow but not deep either. she had some really nice songs(wildest dreams) and some stupid ones(shake it off). i've liked swifts older albums even though im not much of a country fan. i get why this made swift the monumental figure she is today

this record is now my favorite from mf doom. he has some of the most talent out of any rapper, and the production from madlib puts this on another level. one of the best collab LPs from 2 incredible people.
fav tracks: accordion, americas most blunted, fancy clown, rhinestone cowboy
least fav tracks: rainbows
straight up formula pop SHIT. i can't believe i let my ears go through the torture that is blurryface. the members of the group annoy me as people, and the songs are like mad libs. plug in a few words that make it seem trendy, add in pronouns like "her, she" to make them about a girl, and then layer it over a repetitive beat that has no creativity. i'm gonna go tear my heart (yeah i know) so i don't have to hear this band again
:/ is the only way i can explain this. was hoping for so much more but was disappointed. wish JT just released the few good songs as singles instead of having some awful tracks along with them.
fav tracks: TKO, Cabaret, take back the night, not a bad thing
least fav tracks: drink you away, amnesia, only when i walk away,
