a true trip that was a wild ride and one of the best post punk albums, and albums in general, ever
fav tracks: disorder, shadowplay, i remember nothing
this LP had an awesome mix of genres to it. while predominantly folk, i heard some rock, and electronic aspects to it, and it was very well executed.
fav tracks: i love you honeybear, true affection, holy shit
least fav tracks: bored in the USA
way overrated album. this is a pretty inconsistent album, and very one sided. i loved the first half, but i felt that the second half kinda dropped off and was much less enjoyable. the songs got to be kind of pointless and had stupid topics, which isnt a bad thing always, but i got enough of these careless vibes. in addition, i preferred the versions of kids and time to pretend that were on the time to pretend ep way more than the versions on here (the voice modification on oracular's kids ... read more
i was never a big fan of earl's slow, lazy delivery, and this LP didnt change my opinion. there was some pretty good production, it matched the speed of the raps very nicely, but the lyrics were boring. i didnt expect there to be bangers, and i knew that this was not gonna be a very uplifting album, but i hoped there to be at least one track that had a little bit of speed to it.
fav tracks: mantra, grown ups
EDIT: this album gets better and better over time, and it has become one of my most frequented albums. i really hope these guys have something cooked up that can be released soon.
japandroids is the kind of name i would expect from a cheesy dubstep producer. i now have a completely different look on stupid names. this is one of the best rock albums of the 2010's, with some awesome riffs and very creative lyrics. the LP also had some of the best hooks out of any rock albums ive heard in a ... read more
it was very well produced, but thats about it. this LP drags along with the same boring vocals, and was an overall boring experience. i was hoping for a psychedelic electronic project that was a little more adventurous. tame impala didnt really impress me with this, easily the most overrated album of the year.
it's music made for teenage girls who think that theyre different because the guys in this band each actually play an instrument. wish they didnt get past the 1st ep, no one ever tell me that 5 seconds of summer is better than one direction, those guys actually can sing and have a decent sound.
another on i've gotta improve the review on...
danny brown has a voice like no other. his delivery is a huge factor that contributes to his success, with a high pitched tone and terrific speed, his beats could be sub-par and the song could still be listenable. with old being separated into side a, a more personal collection of tracks, and side b, full of bangers and club songs. side a holds many true stories of danny's life, and they are formulated into cleverly written songs. side b doesnt ... read more
its been a few months since i first reviewed this album, and have given it numerous listens since then. this grew on me so much. i find the production to be the true genius on this album, easily better and more experimental than any of west's older projects. his lyrics were fine, but the topics of the songs were so intriguing and odd that they added so much character to this album. although the features are scarce, frank ocean has a nice little part, justin vernon, chief keef, as well as ... read more
creepy and got boring, but extremely original. was a journey through this album
EDIT: I don't think that there is any other way to truly take in this album unless your mind is completely blank. Just listen, and go through the musical epic that is Soundtracks For The Blind, one of the most important works of art ever.
as the last LP before their breakup, swans goes out with a bang, as an art rock album that is very experimental but focused as well. the voices talking and mumbling on some tracks give this album a theme, and a trippy one at that. this is one that is very ... read more
one completely uniform and whole project. there isn't a single track that seems out of place, and the flow from song to song is stellar. i love the light beats and slow feel, it adds to the overall character of this project. i just dont really care for the features on this album, the light vocals annoyed me, especially from niki randa.
fav tracks: tiny tortures, sultans request
flying lotus truly has a unique style of production. i preferred his bassy, more electronic feeling records previous to this, however i dont think that this style of production is at all bad. theres more jazz and blues influences on this, and its a bit slower and has more soul. the features were great, especially thundercat's, which i found to be the best.
fav tracks: never catch me, descent into madness, turkey dog coma, ready err not
a slight increase from the first ep. im glad that the group saves their best work for their full-lengths. it could be worse, but it still didnt impress me too much.
fav tracks: mr. martyr, way down in the hole
just blah... i couldnt stay focused to this album. not a great debut, but it helped shape the slightly different sound that young fathers has today. solid, but i have no desire to go back and listen to it again.
a nice listen from young fathers. it apparently got huge acclaim in great britain, but i dont think it was all too great. it was boring at times, and i got a little tired of the afro beats. however, the pure emotion in these tracks is insane, and the production is very well done as well.
fav tracks: low, war
this was also just fine. beach house is great music to fall asleep to, and i don't mean that in a bad way at all. they have captivating instrumentals, and soft vocals. this was just a basic album that seemed to be a slightly softer, watered down depression cherry. not bad at all, but its not as good as the album previous to it.
fav tracks: one thing, elegy to the void
EDIT: Major grower on me. Space Song is one of my favorite songs of this decade so far.
this was pretty good. having never heard a beach house song before this LP, or even any music similar to them, this was a pleasant surprise. granted, they're far from being a favorite of mine, but they had some truly original characteristics to their music that i liked. the instrumentation and production was great, and the singing was almost as good. but then nothing changed... the singer used the same ... read more
ehh... i know that everyone loved this, but it's just not my thing. there was some really nice production, but the vocals just bothered me. he sang in the same tone through this entire LP, with a lo-fi voice edit to it. i can totally see the appeal to this, as ariel pink is talented, i just dont think his work is too great.
fav tracks: four shadows, negativ ed
