after 7 years, JT finally releases new music... and it was great. as always, the vocals supplied were outstanding, but the production was on another level. Timbaland outdid himself with this one. although not all of the songs were great, they all had perfect production. there were some awesome radio hits (mirrors, suit and tie) along with cutesy love ballads (strawberry bubblegum, blue ocean floor). almost all of the songs could have been cut by 2-3 minutes, but i'm not gonna complain ... read more
death grips had a mediocre album in 2013 in government plates. when niggas on the moon was individually released in 2014, it made everyone unsure of how jenny death would sound. jenny death is for sure the stronger half of this LP, i like to think that niggas is just an 8 track intro to the best part of the project. tptb has some of the best production that death grips has had since the money store, and the added instruments included in jenny death change their sound. i'm hoping that their ... read more
after listening to CLPPNG, i didn't love the sound that clipping had. but this was different, and i liked it a lot more. the industrial noise used behind the vocals are really unique, and not as obnoxious on midcity, they also fit in more with the song instead of just having noise randomly. the lyrics were better on this, they had a nicer flow. overall i really liked this LP, makes me want to listen to clipping's 2nd project again just to see if it sounds better after hearing this. ... read more
after hearing mastermind and really enjoying it, i was hoping this would be almost as good. but when you put out two albums in a year, odds are that one isn't gonna be that hot. hood billionaire does a poor job of telling a story of a drug dealer that makes a lot of money. the beats are weak, the lyrics are worse. it didn't make me want to tear out my headphones and run away, but it did make me wonder how the nice project that was mastermind was followed up by this... in addition, the ... read more
EDIT: listened again and this really clicked with me. the production is actually awesome, and when ride does show up, he really has some great verses.
lyrically lacking, but had some really enjoyable beats. i feel that this was just a small project to tide us over between the incredible 2 albums that dropped in 2012 and niggas on the moon in 2014. it was a good listen, shorter than usual, but nice. a bit lighter than dg's other albums.

MF Doom comes up with a classic here. doom may not be exactly a household name, but he really should be. his raps and production made this LP one that i could listen to again and again. the features were nice, especially with the ones on who you think i am? i need doom to come back and release some new shit already
fav tracks: tick tick, rhymes like dimes, who you think i am?, "?"
death grips' catchiest album to date. no, not my favorite, i prefer their rougher sounds like Jenny Death, but this really is a game changer. the industrial beats from hill and screaming vocals from ride are the most incredible combination that will eventually lead death grips to make some of the best music in the genre that they pioneered. the money store doesn't have the same themes (death, sex[almost like rape at times], and mental instabilities) that exmilitary had, but the faster ... read more
i absolutely loved this album, i just thought that there were way too many skits and not enough raps. when doom did rap, they were incredible. the nice, jazzy beats go perfectly with doom's light vocals and i liked the theme of food. really wish that there weren't 30 minutes of skits though
fav tracks: potholderz, deep fried frenz, kon queso, kookies
i wanted to like it more than i did. dont get me wrong, i really enjoyed this, but i regret not reviewing it earlier than i did. loved the theme to this and the slow instrumentals with sufjans whispery vocals. nice.
fav tracks: death with dignity, should have known better
really bored me :/ not sure exactly how i feel about it, and panda bear in general, but this didnt excite me.
fav tracks: cosplay

EDIT #2: i cant find anything unenjoyable about this album. the concept is a terrific idea, and it was executedly so perfectly, which is something extremely difficult to do with music. i can cry to this, dance to it, and just listen to it whenever. illinois is as well rounded as an album can possibly be in my taste. also, despite the title and subject matter being the state of Illinois, there is something very New York about this project, and i always think about Manhattan when listening to ... read more
lyrics were surprisingly intense and straight up awesome. the beats were aggressive and the rapping was insane. not my favorite death grips album, but thats like choosing between my favorite kids. theyre all good. this was for sure a stronger album lyrically than the money store, not sure about the production though. nice, hill and ride
fav tracks: world of dogs, artificial death in the west, no love, lil boy
least fav tracks: black dice
EDIT: have been going back into this album recently after developing a small interest in noise music. now, much of this really isnt noise, but it has a heavy influence from the genre, which forms a very distinctive sound. daveed diggs brings in some of the best rapping ive heard from this decade, with a very speedy yet completely comprehend-able flow. the production is pretty well done, with some stellar tracks (work work) and some that are bland (dream) but as a whole very good. diggs' ... read more
i liked it. it doesn't have the best lyrics but the beats are strong, the skits are well placed, and the features are nice as well. props to rick ross for a good project.
fav tracks: the devil is a lie, sanctified, drug dealers dream, rich as gangsta, in vein
least fav tracks: BLK and WHT, war ready
fire. el-p has some strong lyrics and incredible beats. the features as well were nice, i was surprised when i heard danny brown come in and not when killer mike did. my only complaint is that there was usually about a minute or more of instrumental on most but not all tracks before el started rapping. just wish he had more verses. overall very well put together, produced and written.
best tracks: oh hail no, the full retard, the jig is up, $ vic/ftl
least fav tracks: works every time
compared to his earlier releases, this is weak. i'm a huge fan of tesfaye's og 3 mixtapes and kiss land was alright. but this turned something really special to something very mainstream. the raw sex and drugs that were discussed on trilogy are absent here and replaced with boring, sappy love ballads. can't feel my face is extremely catchy, but unfortunately is one of those songs. the hills and real life are 2 of the best tracks on this LP, tracks that remind me of trilogy. really not ... read more
the track with mexican music made me cry but other than that is wasn't too bad.
