EDIT #3: okay i wanted to give this another chance after seeing it on so many best of the year lists. i listened all the way through, skipping no tracks. thats when this LP clicked with me. its catchy as hell, and grimes has an angelic voice at times. the production is very on par with grimes' singing, it's some of my favorite electronic sounds of 2015. i really regret hating this so much, although i do still occasionally get annoyed with grimes' voice. one of the best pop albums in a ... read more
pretty one-sided project. it felt to me that the stronger songs were in the first half and the second half was kind of filler. some of the best hip hop songs of the year were on this tape though, so i cant hate this, it's just got a much better first half (aside from 6 man, that song goes hard)
fav tracks: legend, know yourself, energy, 10 bands, 6 man
not bjork's best, but far from her worst. the production is as good as it ever has been, with many of her classic electronic beats used and string instruments, as well as unconventional materials such as music boxes. bjork has some really great tracks, but also some rather boring ones as well (hidden place). overall, could bjork have done better? of course, but comapred to the other pop albums of it's time, vespertine is still bounds ahead of its competition.

boots delivers one of the most boring albums of the year. his voice stayed in the same, dreary and worn down tone throughout the entire album, and the production wasn't nearly enough to keep me entertained. I was hoping for at least a little bit more, but unfortunately this came up short.
fav tracks: C.U.R.E.
least fav tracks: only, bombs away
currently, I'm not sure if I like this more than rodeo. it was as good at the very least, but I'll have to go through a couple more listens for a final verdict. what's for sure about this tape is that travis' raps were much stronger and less muddled than they were on rodeo, giving a rawer and more natural tone. this was a pretty satisfying listen to say the least
fav tracks: quintana pt. 2, skyfall
i am not a fan of what i call "hard music", like grindcore, screamo, and heavy metal. this is by no means any of these genres, but it had a resemblance to me. gira's voice was much more in your face, the guitars had a very depressing sound to them, and i felt that this was a much different approach compared to what i heard on swans' newer albums. not really bad, just not what i prefer.
EDIT: couldnt seem to enjoy this again as much as i did the first time. still good, but i over scored it.
more of an experience than an album really. this project has a flawless execution, and as far as vaporwave goes, its pretty catchy. im pretty new to this genre, but i was very impressed by this album, especially with the wind and rain sounds. the implementation of nature into this project was an awesome addition, making it put you in a place.
because beach house is so unique, i get a little nervous that their LPs are going to be very repetitive. but this record showed me that my thought was untrue. bloom is one of the true pop gems of the 2010's, it has some extremely hypnotic production, giving a total aura that is felt while listening to this album. i'm not usually too big on pop music because most of it is watered down, top 40 trash. but beach house has taken the genre as their own, and redefined what it means to make pop ... read more
beach house projects put me in a place of ecstasy. they have a completely unique sound, and i cant think of another band like them. the lead singer, victoria legrand, has a voice so unique that i cant really explain it. this project was whimsical, fun, and what i really look for in pop.
fav tracks: walk in the park, lover of mine, take care
does entertainment weekly ever give reasonable scores????
when comparing this to justin bieber's older albums, it's incredible. however I was disappointed because I was expecting more of the electronic production that was apparent on his first 2 singles, which were probably the best tracks on the album. some of the songs where Bieber tried to have a very emotional approach came off as shallow and dull, missing the target that they were meant to hit. the features on this LP were weak, I didn't expect much from big Sean, but Travis Scott had a pretty ... read more
I absolutely adore Björk. she has an amazing voice and some of the best electronic projects ever. but this LP is a lot different than every other one, and in the best way. there was, if any, very weak production, and the interludes were just unnecessary and boring. and her voice is obviously not at its best in this album, as there are some tracks where it sounds as if she had a cold while singing. because it's björk, it's not bad, nothing she puts out is, but it's just not too ... read more
after hearing rave reviews for this, i was expecting a lot from it. this was by now means bad at all, but i was a bit underwhelmed. i thought gibbs had a great performance on this LP, but the production disappointed me.
fav tracks: deeper, shitsville, lakers
this is one of the most game-changing hip hop albums of all time. jay has some stellar production on this LP, along with his best raps ever. this is way ahead of it's time, as if it were released today it would be insanely popular. hov tells an extremely entertaining and interesting story on this, one of the best albums of the early 2000's no doubt.
fav tracks: december 4, encore, dirt off your shoulder, public service announcement, 99 problems
one of the most well put together pieces of music ever. king crimson put out a terrific debut, and this is one of the best LPs of the 60's (and of all time for that matter). this album goes through an entire journey of different sounds and vocals. the muddled, electronic 21st century schizoid man is probably the standout of the album, however the closer, the court of the crimson king, is easily the best possible finish to this project. anyone who is a music fan needs to hear this before ... read more
this album got to be just too much of the same thing. boring ambient sounds that just repeat each other with slightly different pitches. an album should not become a chore to listen to, and that is what this became after 10 minutes
this is why clams casino is one of the best producers in the past 5 years or so. i know that this is a 5 year old project, but his sound now is so much stronger and bassier than what was found on this EP. these tracks could easily used by a rapper/singer to have verses put over, as they had consistent changes and chorus like parts to them. the last two tracks were a bit boring, but rainforest was a very enjoyable project
fav tracks: waterfalls, treetop
Lupe Fiasco really stepped up his game here. for this being only his second full length LP, it's incredible. the production was perfect for each track, and Lupe's bars are perfectly intertwined with each instrumental. there was another terrific story told on this album, and it's easily one of the best hip hop albums of the mid 2000's.
fav tracks: go go gadget flow, superstar, streets on fire, hello/goodbye
was a pretty decent album, had some amazing production. but i loved the story told. it wasn't always consistent, but it was powerful and had heart to it. lupe has a voice that is enjoyable to listen to, and this album never once bored me.
