Very passable modern day metalcore. I do like the harsh vocals and some of the passages, but a lot of it feels very same-y to me and unappealing. It commits the biggest sin in modern day metalcore/djent where the chorus is just a wall of sound where everything is so turned up and blended into each other you can't pick any of the instruments out. Yeah I don't know, it's not as memorable as metalcore releases like the Jesus Piece album or the two Knocked Loose songs. Spiritbox isn't bad at all, ... read more
Short ramble/review, I've been going through and putting in the scores of all the albums I've listened to and rated from 2019-2022 and it unfortunately made me remember this album. Hey guys, when bands do cover albums for boring content, they usually - you know - do covers of other songs and not shitty acoustic ones of their own? Like why did they even bother making this lmao
Fary Away fucking slaps though
The Callous Daoboys comes out with another banger set of songs. They ratchet the weird-as-fuck avant-garde aspect way up with the variety of genres and sounds they jump through. It makes me think of SiM's newest album, but good. I will say the alt-metal passages feel more bladn this time around, but not enough for me to outright hate anything on this project. Pretty good EP, hoping for more.
The most club pop song you'll hear. Charli's singing is good and the production is fine, but she's REALLY punching under her weight with this one. Considering how I felt about CRASH, please tell me she's not in her mid era.
Back when I used to do YouTube videos for music reviews, I did a video for "NINE" and said it was one of the worst albums of 2019. It sounded like a bunch of 40 year old punk boomers having an existential crisis with some of the worst production I've heard on a rock album. With that being said, this next album is a HUGE improvement, but that's still not really saying much.
The two biggest problems on this album are similar to the issues I had on "NINE", and that's the ... read more
FELCOMMENTARY’S NOSTALGIA MUSIC REVIEWS #1: All That Remains’ “Madness”
So since I’ve been way more active on this site, one of the few projects that I wanted to do was to go over some bands and albums that I consider nostalgic to me. As a – at this point – 27-year-old man, my idea of nostalgic would go from what I grew up listening to in elementary/middle/high school to albums that I was bumping and exploring in college (2014-2018). College ... read more
I don't get the hype, I really don't. Maybe this is just another instance of meme culture hyping up another rage/cloud rapper, but at least the instances before were actually spot on like Carti.
Rage music continues to be the most frustrating subgenre of rap to me. I genuinely love the approach to production and beats with this type of rap: very synthetic and aggressive, but also has a droning affect which would benefit some of the more auto-crooner type rappers. But every time I look at a ... read more
I guess I'm in the minority because this was the most passable by-the-books sounding Bring Me the Horizon song from all the new singles. Even die4u was better lol
The hook was kind of weak and the crazy hyper-pop type effects that have been on tracks like Amen are pretty sparse here. It kind of just felt like a weak Linkin Park song. I'm hoping the next project they drop is more like Amen than this.
Chino the goat no cap fr fr
Chino's side project once again provides some excellent brooding, eerie and weirdly calming synthetic tracks this year. The production and vocals on this album are fantastic, with a solid variety of hard-hitting pop bangers to relaxing amibent instrumentals. There are a few significant duds in the tracklist however, particularly Big Youth with El-P. It feels like the project sacrified a lot of artistic style just to shoehorn in mediocre trap instrumentals and a ... read more
*Quick edit for all three of you that read my reviews, I promsie I'll make positive ones in the future lol
I kind of knew going into this album from the reviews that it wasn't going to be good, but I was still open minded. I listened to their 2020 album and it was okayyyyyyyyyyy, it was the most 5/10 relevant punk music you could ever make. But this is just all bets off with its piss poor quality.
The main thing that immediately sticks out at me is the mixing. Guitars and/or drums are way too ... read more
Look, I get that the internet has a perpetual hate train on Dream, but this is fucking garbage lmao. Dude took every single radio trope from the 2010s from the clapping to tacky rap features (Yung Gravy really phoned it in here) and threw it together haphazardly into a 17 minute project. If there's any real offender on this album, it's the singing. Dream ties to go for this low baratone type smooth voice, but he just sounds bored out of his mind rather than deep and engaging. It's so monotone ... read more
You know what, I really shouldn't be surprised anymore but I REALLY gotta give it to Drake. Man has managed to consistently make an overloaded, bloated, boring fucking rap album every single year with the EXACT same flows and trash singing. It's something that really needs to be applauded. He is constantly carried by production and constantly outdone by the features that he puts on his tracks. He'll have maybe 4 or 5 bangers in a sea of what can only be described as background music. Dude is ... read more
So I figured I should throw my two cents into the ring on this album, especially after that shitpost of a remix with Pussy Riot they just released.
Going into this album from the singles, I will be honest, I was ready to SHIT on this album. However, both singles, and the album as a whole, were aboslute growers on me and regardless of what you think of it, a lot of people on here can respect the hell out of the band for doing something so out of pocket after no new music for so long. I figure ... read more
Is this what We Love You sounds like to people that absoultely loathed the album?
Look I loved Life is But a Dream and the band as a whole, but this just feels like an absolute shitpost. Matt got me fighting for my life on this website.
Jesus dude, is this how people felt about the newest Avenged Sevenfold album? I can't even begin to think what Code Orange was trying to do on this album.
As a quick background, I absolutely loved "Underneath" and it was my favorite album of 2020, giving it a 10. The glitchy industrial and vicious nature of that album made me think "holy shit metalcore is good again". On top of that I'm always one for bands experimenting and getting weird, as shown with my love for A7X's ... read more
I REALLY do not like how influential Imagine Dragons has become, because that's exactly what this fucking slop sounds like. Didn't these guys used to be hard rock back in the day, or at least AMV-rock tier music? Now it's just a cacophony of every tacky, uninterseting and played out pop music trope of the past 10 years in one album with the most fake-deep, "We have Bring Me the Horizon at home" ass name ever.
Corey Taylor manages to continue his downward spiral of a mediocre Slipknot album, a joke of an EP, and then this. This is the epitome of WE HAVE GUNS N' ROSES AT HOME!
Surely this is the worst album of the year, right? I'd be hard pressed to see if anything else can top this. His rapping and singing on this album literally sounds like the guys on Syrup by Slump AK.
