Saw a good bit of hype around this project and decided to give it a shot. This is one of the most unique, thrilling, and overall incredible hardcore punk projects I've heard in so long. Do not overlook this album.

Seeing that Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood were in this group , there was no way I was avoiding checking out this new project. I'd never heard of Tom Skinner or Sons of Kemet, but this project certainly has me intrigued after hearing it in full. Many will describe this as a Radiohead album under a different name, but even the styles some of Thom Yorke's solo material and Tom Skinner's jazzy drumming riffs make an appearance as well. I can definitely appreciate Northlane furthering the experimentation of their sound, and they go a step further on Obsidian. However, the songwriting quality of the tracklist is very inconsistent, and the album as a whole doesn't have too much cohesiveness to it. There are some brilliant bangers on here, but there's also a good few half-baked and under-developed ideas that don't really go anywhere. It's not a bad album by any means, but I feel like there's more they could've done with this new ... read more
What made Animals As Leader's discography up until now so good was that their instrumental approach to djent was so kaleidoscopic and rich in sound that no vocalist was needed to fill in any missing gaps. On Parrhesia, while there's a great collection of tracks here, some don't successfully fill that gap and leave my mind wandering off. It's certainly not their best record, but still far from an unpleasant listen nonetheless.

Despite Charli XCX steering towards a more traditional pop-focused record, CRASH manages to get through just fine only with a few dents and scratches.

Melt My Eyez sees a slight shift in direction for Denzel, moving towards more conscious/introspective lyric writing as well as a wider variety of instrumentation and more fluid song progression. While a few ideas on here are rough around the edges, this album showcases a nice evolution of his sound, and I'm curious to see if it's elaborated further upon in future projects. I can definitely feel this is a grower album, so expect my score to change at some point.
