Not sure how many times I’ve listened to this album. Probably at least 10
A little boring in the beginning but the end is very good. Sometimes the jazz fusion elements are a bit too out there in my opinion but overall its a solid record. Amazing features, which was really cool to see because most billy woods' projects don't have any. Amazing lyrics as always, although I don't feel like woods and Moor Mother worked that well together. A lot of her parts on songs felt like they didn't add much. Definitely my least favorite from woods so far, but ... read more
Forgot to review this yesterday. I thought it was a really interesting mix of experimental rock and dream pop. It didn’t feel as atmospheric as most dream pop, especially since this was made long after Cocteau Twins and them hit their stride, but it’s still very good. I love seeing how different genres started out. My favorites were The Madonna Is With Child and Dizzy. I’ll have to listen to the remastered version soon
I was gonna give this a 70 but he locked in on the last two songs. Overall, I like his laid back production style but sometimes it makes his songs sound empty. His hooks a lot of the time felt corny and unremarkable which put me off to a few songs. Overall though, he’s an amazing lyricist and I see why this is a must hear album.
Nice atmospheric indie rock album. Best songs are the singles, death kink and sundowner
Solid project, but not many songs really stood out to me. I understand that the bad mixing/vocal effects were a stylistic choice but they honestly took away from the experience. It also felt pretty repetitive, and the highs weren’t enough in my opinion. Lots of better slow core/slacker rock albums. That being said, there weren’t any bad songs. I really liked the first and last songs.
Cool album, kind of drags in the middle and most of the songs went on for too long. The main reason for the lower score is that the guitar isnt really that impressive, which is pretty important for a shoegaze album, and it feels pretty bloated. Even though I wasn't a huge fan, I would recommend it with some reservations
definitely not what I was expecting. Tbh I didn’t really get it, but I haven’t listened to a lot of folk. I’ll need to relisten to this eventually, when I know more about folk
I like the combination of Shoegaze and Psychedelia they had on this album, especially the fact that i could actually hear the lyrics. There wasnt hardly any distortion which was pretty weird for a shoegaze album.
heavy mbv influence, would be higher but the first song kinda sucks
Loveless of course better but this album is still very good. It feels more shoegazey and a little less dream poppy than loveless, but its still a good record and lives up to its name in my opinion.
the only songs that really stood out to me were breezeblocks, fitzpleasure and handmade
