Enjoyable, if a little messy at times. It features some incredible tracks, perhaps some of the best Casablancas has been involved in (Human Sadness) but also some more mediocre tracks that feel out of place. Overall, it's solid enough but perhaps less accessible than their later album 'Virtue'
Mostly what you'd expect from a Tom Misch release, except for the completely out of place Nirvana cover! If you ignore that and pretend it doesn't exist, this is quite a solid listen and worth checking out :)
Really chilled, with some nice sounds throughout. It is a little bit samey towards the end, but as a whole a sweet and pleasant listen.
Really underwhelming, it felt really bland, generic, and they sounded disinterested throughout. Not a great listen, and a shame that Sly Withers have fallen this far so quickly
I can see why some people would really enjoy this album, but unfortunately it just isn't for me. Some tracks like Acolyte are really enjoyable, but as a whole it's just not really my thing
It's ok, not as good as previous Mt Joy albums though for sure. The album is mostly a mixed bag of decent and below average tracks, and as others have mentioned the real highlight is the title track.
A miss for me, and a shame really because I feel like somewhere buried in Mini Mansions' music is a band that I could really fall in love with. Most of these tracks just felt boring, empty, and unimaginative with only a few bright spots to be found throughout the album. The features worked reasonably well but weren't revolutionary and still managed to be pretty forgettable, and the album as a whole just seemed to drag on a fair bit. Quite disappointing in all honesty. :/
Kawala bring their infectious energy over to this LP, leading to mixed results. As mentioned the tracks are full of energy, with some really fun and catchy tracks to be found here. However, it does also mean that the album as a whole suffers from some repetition in terms of sound, especially towards the end. It's not to say that those tracks are bad, I just personally think that Kawalas music may be best suited to shorter EP releases than longer LPs.
Stunning. Whilst less intense than 'Everything and You', this album showcases a different emotion as it sounds across as far more hopeful and reflective than the previous album, whilst still including those mesmerising highs and tidal waves of emotion that made me fall in love with this music. There is also a lot more experimentation here, playing into that element of hope and optimism that can be felt throughout the album - it all feels dreamlike and 'airy' especially in comparison with how ... read more
A swing and a miss for woods, especially given how strong Aethiopes was. The album as a whole just really struggled to go anywhere and it wasn't that engaging at all, pretty disappointing to be honest
A far more refined and polished release from shame, that manages to keep all of what made their previous releases so enjoyable. There are no clear weak moments in this album, and they continue to go from strength to strength - shame are one of the most exciting bands in the scene right now and I'm already eager to see how they progress from here
I'll be frank - I couldn't care less about the weird album artwork or the dodgy release schedule, I just care about the music. Damon again has hit a pretty solid release with Cracker Island, with the majority of tracks being really enjoyable and the whole flow of the album itself being consistent too. I wasn't fully sold on a few tracks (Tired Influencer, Oil, Tormenta) but they may grow on me the more I listen. Alongside that, the singles are certainly the strongest tracks here for me, with ... read more
A really underwhelming follow up to a really solid first album - it loses almost all of what made the previous album so good, and replaces it with mostly generic, bland music. Don't bother with this imo.
Incredible as always, there isn't much more that can be said. Whether this is released as their 3rd LP or not, the whole video is an absolute must watch.
Really enjoyable - can't speak for the lyrics but this album captivates you just as much at its most intense as it does at its more relaxed moments. Definitely worth checking out
A very solid soundtrack - it really showcases what can be achieved with electronic music
A bit of a messy album with multiple demos scattered throughout the back end of the release. Saying that, there are some gems nestled in here - Nature of the Experiment is well known and deservedly so, with its playful sound and catchiness a big hit. The rest of the album is quite middling, but I would recommend listening to the first 8 tracks regardless
