I'll save you some time - open this album, play 'Dying Alone', close the album. That one track is beautiful, the rest of the album is just aimless, bland, and empty - a genuine disappointment given how good Dying Alone is. As the title hints at, if this is American Pets doing the best they can then their best sadly isn't all that impressive. :/
Whilst a fairly 'safe' record, Moon Hooch put out some utter filth in this album - the bass, synths, and sax all merging into one incredible wave of sound. Some of the sections here are just mind-blowing, the funk and groove really hitting the mark
It's clear that Moon Hooch know their style of music and are comfortable in that lane, because boy do they do it good!
Flavien Berger is always such a fun listen, mostly due to his unpredictable approach to tracks and unique sound. There are some brilliant tracks to be found here on Léviathan, and the album as a whole is certainly worth checking out!
Funny (Unfunny)
I actually listen to this unironically from time to time
The first track made me think that it might not be AS bad as I expected.
I was wrong.
A short LP that is absolutely full to the brim with potential - this may not be a perfect release but it clearly showcases that Caroline Loveglow just gets the dream pop genre. If she can develop onwards from this, a really solid first building block, then I imagine there are great things ahead!
Dizzle absolutely deserved to be locked up for this abomination.
(It's a funny EP that gives a few laughs throughout, it's worth a listen if you want a quick laugh)
Whilst it doesn't really sound all that much like a Strokes album, it's still pretty enjoyable with some nice solid moments. The way it closes with 'Call it fate, call it karma' is beautiful.
Another solid Strokes album, what a shock! Repitilia has rightly earned itself a place as one of the greatest Strokes songs of all time

Not sure where I got my original score from - it doesn't add up to the scores for each track I had!
Nonetheless, this is THE Gorillaz album, I would say it is even borderline flawless. There are so few weaknesses here that it's hard to give it a full review because it simply is that good - the production is stellar, the features are perfect, and the whole thing is a perfect example of how flexible Gorillaz sound is. An absolutely essential listen, and one album that will always be ... read more
A return to form for Gorillaz, with a completely solid album full of great features, fun tracks, and energy. Moreso, I think the bonus tracks on the deluxe edition continue this, with each of those being really interesting and enjoyable tracks in themselves. The base tracklist is pretty great from beginning to end, showcasing Gorillaz ability to mould themselves across various genres with great success. It may not reach the dizzying heights of Demon Days or Plastic Beach, but this a really good ... read more
Really harsh with my initial scoring of this on re-listen. I treat this album as a bit of an apology for how little 2D featured on Humanz (I think it's even referenced in one of their videos?). Whilst fairly simplistic in nature, Damon does a great job of crafting some fun tracks full of synthy sounds stripped back to the more classic Gorillaz sound that we love. Features are limited but utilised really well, and overall I think it's just a pretty solid album, if not anything special. A nice ... read more

The Gorillaz album that has grown on me the most - originally I was a bit underwhelmed with Humanz but over MANY listens, it's really wriggled its way into my library. The biggest flaw is that it isn't really Gorillaz - and not in terms of style but in terms that Damon/2D doesn't feature all too much, instead feeling more like multiple artists featuring Gorillaz. However, if you look past that I think it's actually a pretty fun and enjoyable album with some strong concepts and ... read more

Not sure why I was so harsh on this in my first review (at least in the context of me thinking it's brilliant, an 87 is definitely too low). There is a clear reason why so many people love this album, the tracklist is simply superb and some of Gorillaz best ever tracks can be found here (Empire Ants, Rhinestone Eyes, On Melancholy Hill etc). There is an argument to be made that this is peak Gorillaz, and to be completely honest I'd struggle to create a compelling argument against it ... read more

On return, this album still sounds really dated and quite messy, although the limited technology used to create it still makes it fairly impressive. Some tracks are bluntly annoying, whilst there are a couple of nice gems tucked away in here. More than anything though, over 10 years later it really does just sound like Damon messing about on his iPad, which whilst impressive also sounds quite rough to the modern ear.
