Probably more positive about this than others as I'm not familiar with their previous work, but as a standalone piece this holds up ok. There's some enjoyable pop songs scattered throughout it, with a few really catchy choruses to reel you in. Other reviews will tell you more about this album in context to their other works, but as a first foray into their music I certainly wasn't put off by it
A true classic, 'The Verve' are so much more than just 'Bittersweet Symphony'
I was a little harsh with my original score - this is a pretty decent album that is an enjoyable listen and whilst nothing groundbreaking, certainly holds a unique sound.
Powerful music, with some interesting approaches to their songs. 'Petrichor' is a particular standout track
Not such a big fan of Sundara Karma now, but this album was really enjoyable back when I was really into their music. Some great tracks on there as well as your usual filler tracks, but a real good sound nonetheless
Shinji is a little bitch boy but the music makes up for that
I really want to like this album, as there are quite a few songs here that I really enjoyed. However, the second half of the album really let's it down and it just leaves you wishing that the current song is the last, just to find another one coming along to prolong your disappointment.
Probably a better idea to seek out their singles than listen to this album in all honesty.
Will probably get you hooked in for at least one listen through the album. Full of energy and pretty enjoyable.
This is quite a tough album to rate for me, and I'll try to explain why.
Firstly, the good: sometimes you just want to listen to stupid shit, and this album fills that desire pretty damn well. Granted, some songs are more crude humour, but others catch you out with how unpredictable they are. Frank/Pink Guy/Joji (what do I call him?) also pokes fun at the music industry itself a few times which usually elicits a smile from me at the very least. 'She's So Nice' also deserves a shout for ... read more
It's an album you come back to once every few months, enjoy for a bit and then move on from. It's a solid enough album, but perhaps feels a little dated (as much as I love the more recognisable tracks). 'Ride on Shooting Star' will always have a place in my heart.
Like many similar albums, this particular project suffers from having one or two stand out songs surrounded by too much mediocrity. 'Addicted' is that song here- a great, catchy tune that undoubtedly carries the album. Being over an hour in length probably hinders this album more than it benefits it too, as it becomes almost tedious towards the end.
'Works Every Time' is an absolute gem of a song that will burrow its way into your head, the rest of the album is just a bit meh - not offensive but nothing to get excited about.
Some standout tracks keep it interesting, but it does struggle with keeping you hooked throughout
