Some catchy tracks, but also feels like a blur of filler tracks at times too. Could be better, but still fairly enjoyable.
Disclaimer: My review is for the Deluxe version of this album, which features 4 additional songs.
This is a really solid indie/indie-pop album from 'Life in Film' - it is packed with good sounds and full to the brim with energy and exuberance. Whilst many of the songs sound like your usual indie/indie-pop tracks, they are still very enjoyable tracks with some being particular standouts. My favourite is comfortably 'Anna, Please Don't Go' - a track that tugs at your emotions with its rawness ... read more
A nice, fun upbeat coastal ska album with varying sounds throughout. The Aussie groups' bio says they 'embody the sound and lifestyle of the beaches', and this album certainly lives up to that, with all 7 tracks being thoroughly enjoyable. Whilst being nothing groundbreaking, many of the tracks are pretty catchy - in particular I found 'Dreamin of You' to worm itself into my mind pretty often, with the unique vocals and catchy instrumentals leaving me humming along for a good hour or two after ... read more
Really solid - I've had Orla Gartland on my radar for quite some time and finally got around to checking out this album, and I have to say it was really enjoyable from beginning to end. All of these songs were new to me, and each one was enjoyable in its own unique way - something that really helps an album keep your attention and is missing from quite a few modern releases. Orla's lyrics and vocals are the highlight of the album, with the instrumentals good but nothing exceptional - instead ... read more
Truly beautiful - I was unaware that this was Elena Tonra until after listening through the album. To begin with, I was intrigued by how much I recognized the sound of her voice but was soon swept away by the beauty of each track. A really enjoyable album with few weaknesses - it is certainly worth checking out.
Following on from their previous EP (Make Well EP, 2021) Moon Panda return again with their now characteristic sound with their first full length release 'What on Earth'.
Already a big fan of their work in 'Make Well EP', I had high hopes for this release and was not disappointed in the slightest. Almost every track is driven by a melodic bass line and dreamy vocals that produce a hypnotic sound, leaving you entranced. (Rabbit being one of the few exceptions for example, where here the bass ... read more
A strong album from a band that I had only heard occasionally as one song (Pneumonia) found its way into my regular playlist some time ago. I decided to check out a full album from the band, and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed - there are no real weaknesses on this release, apart from possibly 'Lazarus', a filler bite that just feels a little unnecessary. The sound throughout is really enjoyable, with some tracks really captivating you as a listener - the aforementioned 'Pneumonia' ... read more
It's good, but I found this to be quite forgettable, especially in comparison to their other works. Their sound is still enjoyable to listen to and the songs are all reasonably solid, but nothing stands out as being either excellent or to be pushing the boundaries of the genre - instead, it feels more like 'just another album'. It is worth a listen as it is certainly enjoyable, but that's about all I got from this album.
A solid album from beginning to end, although a couple of the songs do sound a little stale. Personally, I find that the album is at its strongest from tracks 9 through 11, with Balthazar really introducing their unique sound to the songs here. The closing track, 'Blood Like Wine' is my standout track here, rounding out the album with a heavy riff and captivating raspy vocals. If the whole album was more akin to this track, it would score even higher, possibly reaching into the low 90s.
Melon is a criminal for how he reviewed this, it is a brilliant album from beginning to end with a poignant story.
Solid album, although I still far prefer 'Care for Me'. This album has a lot of good sounds and some fun tracks, although it does lose your attention at times. Worth a listen, it is definitely an enjoyable listen.
'Time Skiffs' is an ok album that unfortunately falls flat in quite a few places and honestly underwhelmed me overall. Whilst it manages to maintain that classic 'Animal Collective' sound, it somehow manages to do so in a way that I found to be both irritating and quite honestly obnoxious. There are some decent songs here - 'Prester John' and 'Royal and Desire' were pretty enjoyable, but unfortunately a lot of the positive work here is swamped by the atrocity that is 'Cherokee'. Never before ... read more
Very solid, drawing sounds and ideas from various different genres to create a real enjoyable album from beginning to end. 'Family' and 'Clouds' were personal favourites, although the entire project is pretty strong from beginning to end. Worth checking out if you're curious, it's certainly a fun listen.
I hadn't listened to Maverick Sabre since his 2012 debut 'Lonely Are The Brave', so I wasn't sure what to expect from his most recent release. The first thing that struck me is that his sound has completely changed - the nasally, powerful vocals seen in songs such as 'I Need' have been replaced with far more laidback, low-key tones coupled with verses of rap.
I am actually quite surprised that this album has rated so low with both critics and users so far - I found it to be pretty solid from ... read more
A solid debut - strong tracks that each bring something different to the release. Definitely showcases their potential.
E&TD come out with another relatively strong EP in 'Give You Everything', following on from their 2020 release 'A State of Living in an Objective Reality'. Maintaining a similar sound, but perhaps drifting a little towards a more Taylor Swift-esque sound at times, this short burst of music is a pleasant listen and just generally enjoyable. I personally found the first two tracks to be pretty similar in sound, with the third and fourth being more unique songs in that regard. 'YOU', the ... read more
Whilst still a good record from 'Beach House', I just found it didn't click the same way as some of their other works have. Perhaps it comes down to personal taste, but it just didn't do it as much for me as I hoped. It is still a solid album though and certainly worth checking out!
A very enjoyable album that is beautiful to listen to. Perhaps the best thing about 'Bloom' is that even on first listen, 'Beach House' produce a sound that is familiar and engaging throughout.
