This was so good, way better than I was expecting. Seems Lets Start Here wasnt a one off and Lil Yachty has changed for the best.
If you completely ignore I'll Be Your Girl, its like they never missed a beat. Happy to have them back in form.
Is it good? No
Is it surprisingly fun? Yes
I cant believe it, but I was pleasantly surprised, it was a good fun and not really as bad as I was expecting. I don't think ill be returning but I'm happy I heard it honestly. Its not for me, but I can see why people enjoy it
This one feels super underrated by those scores. Very good album, lots of interesting ideas and compositions here
RIP Steve Albini
Decided to do a Shellac deep dive in anticipation of the new album, and to honor one of the all time greats. This did not disappoint even a little bit. Front to back filled with power, noise, and top notch song writing.
Favs: The Admiral, Crow, Song of the Minerals, Dog and Pony Show
Strong vibes on this one, amazing musicianship, these guys can seemingly do no wrong
Yeah no, I get that this is trying to be something new and out there. But its just TOO much.
This plays out much more like a Residents or Beefheart album than anything form Tom Waits, extremely weird shift in tone in the discography
Hope is literally a perfect track, this could be a 100 over time. Maybe their best? time will tell
Edit: Yeah this is clearly their best album, an accumulation of everything over their active years to make this amazing album. There isn't a bad song on here, and the last 3 songs together is an all time great combination of tracks. I keep coming back to this album for more and more and more.
Genuinely lost for words on this one, one of the most beautiful and artfully craft albums i've heard. Every song is loaded with so much real emotion. Absolutely worth a listen.
Favorites: Sadness As a Gift, Fool, No Machine, Free Treasure, Ruined
Least Favorites: Real House
This very well could be AOTY material, its such an amazing listen. Love hearing Damo live so much, every song is a masterpiece and proof of each members legendary status.
Post-Damo, Post-Damo Can Dive 6:
What happened? is this even Can anymore? All of the experimentation, production, and passion that used to be there is just gone. The artwork is great as usual, but the substance? It almost hurts my being to think some of the same people who made Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi. Monster Movie, and Future Days also made this.
Post-Damo, Post-Damo Can Dive 5:
Okay yeah, this one is a steep dip in quality. Missing Holger and the uninspired Jaki performance really hold this one back, it doesn't even sound like Can anymore. I don't even know what band is playing this one. Its unfortunate too, cause thats some really excellent album art.
Post-Damo, Post-Damo Can Dive 4:
I'm sensing a trend that these albums seem to be heavily underrated. While not good, and certainly not reaching the Damo era heights, they have their merits. This album was super groovy, it had a jam band vibe to it, and I really actually enjoyed it.
Edit: This one grew on me big time, I'd say this is a worthy album from the guys now, love the jams and vibes of it all. Animal Waves is a top Can song for sure
Post-Damo, Post-Damo Can Dive 3:
I didn't imagine Can doing a dub album, and yet here we are. Again its not as bad as I was initially expecting, its definitely far removed from Damo era at this point. Its unique and has its fun moments. I do want to say too, the albums might be getting worse, but the artwork is staying great.
Post-Damo, Post-Damo Can Dive 1:
I really liked this one, almost as good as their Damo material, you can tell they're trying to emulate his vocal style on it and its mostly okay. Feels like very little changed. Will be revisiting this one over time
