Judging from my first listens, I'm going to say that Closer is a much better album than Unknown Pleasures. Unlike Unknown Pleasures, this record had me invested and completely lost in the sound from the get-go, and I feel like this album just clicked with me a lot quicker. Furthermore, I feel like a lot of the songs on here were much better than the best tracks on Unknown Pleasures, and that's really saying something considering I thought the vast majority of the songs on UP were ... read more
Joy Division's debut album is often noted as one of the greatest albums of all time, and rightly so. Most everything on here is nothing short of great, with quite a few tracks that are truly incredible. Unfortunately for me, when it initially started I wasn't too impressed. The first couple of songs I liked a lot and ended up being some of my favourites, but I didn't consider them amazing like later tracks. The third track ended up losing my interest completely, but by the time the fifth one ... read more
Prequelle is by far Ghost's poppiest album to date, yet it still manages to be just as dark and enjoyable as their previous projects. The instrumental, while I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's as good as Meliora, are absolutely phenomenal. However, I would say that it's the writing that truly shines here. The lyrics are probably their darkest yet.
Overall, although I wouldn't say that this record is quite as good as their previous album, it's still a great record that is definitely worth ... read more
With the release of Meliora, Ghost completely perfect their sound and create their best project yet. Everything from the phenomenal instrumentals to the incredible lyrics just make this album great. This is without question one of the best hard rock/metal releases of the 2010s and is the project that I would say cements Ghost as the defining metal band of this decade. This is certainly an essential listen to any fan of hard rock or metal.

Infestissumam isn't a bad album, but it isn't all that good neither.
There are some really good songs on here - and when I say really good, I mean REALLY good. Year Zero and Monstrance Clock in particular stand out as truly amazing tracks that really show just what Ghost are capable of creating. However, the down points on this album are much more prominent. SECULAR HAZE and Idolatrine stand out as especially bad. They're just boring and just bring the overall score down.
In the end, ... read more
Opus Eponymous is a great doom metal record, and an amazing debut for one of the most beloved metal bands of the 2010s.
To be honest, as much as I love this, there really isn't much that I can praise about this. The vocals are nothing to write home about and the instrumentals are usually not too interesting, with the exception of a few tracks like Genesis which had extremely admirable guitar work. However, this album has a charm about it that just makes me like it so much. Sure, it's amateurish ... read more
M3LL155X showcases FKA twigs' best work yet. Every single track on here is nothing short of amazing. This EP is a mind-melting experience that has left me at a loss for words. I genuinely don't even know what to say other than I absolutely adored everything on here. It's actually surprising how an 18 minute EP is this good: it's honestly so much better than a ton of full-length albums. If I had to describe this in one word, it would be; Phenomenal.

Wow, what a beautiful record. FKA twigs' debut album is a stunning project with some of her best songs to date. It's clear that she has completely improved on everything wrong with her two EPs, creating something magnificent. Everything on here is either great or absolutely amazing. Still, I would probably say that her second EP is a bit better, but this is still an incredible work of art that definitely deserves your attention.

I have the same feelings towards this album as I do for S8 Ep3 of the show: it could have been - no, it should have been amazing, yet they somehow managed to fuck it up. This album is so full of generic sounding and downright boring songs that there's very little I can actually praise it about.
Also, although this is an album of music INSPIRED by the show, they really missed a chance to make a studio version for The Dornishman's Wife, as well as another cover for The Bear And The Maiden Fair ... read more
So, my dumb ass actually thought I could get through this in one sitting. I am currently 4+ hours into this and have been thinking about how stupid my assumption was for the past 3 hours. I doubt that I will actually finish this in this sitting, so I won't rate it just yet. When and if I finish the album, then I will actually rate it.
Honestly, the album is oddly hypnotic. I feel like if there was absolutely nothing else I needed or wanted to do, then this album would be easy to listen to ... read more
6 years after releasing arguably their best album to that point, Vampire Weekend finally release another project. Coming up to the release of this album, it was very clear that there was a lot of excitement to see what they would come out with next. Everyone was highly anticipating this record and it became clear that this might be one of the biggest releases of the year. So, did it live up to the hype?
I want to preface this by saying that I'm not the biggest Vampire Weekend fan out there. I ... read more
Damn, this is actually catchy. I'm genuinely more excited for the new Big Baller B album than the new Tool album.
EP2 greatly improves on everything on FKA twigs' first EP. In fact, I'm actually shocked at the immense quality that is this EP. This is 15 minutes, yet it still left a bigger impact on me than a lot of full length albums. If her LP is anything like this, then... I don't even know what to say.
I loved pretty much everything on here. I do think that Water Me was a lot less interesting than the other three, but it was still a great song.

Edit: Another album from this year that I've had no desire to actually return to. I even said in my original review that I wasn't expecting to return, and now I remember very little about it. This album is just not for me at all.

A beautifully crafted project. Aldous Harding creates a gorgeous album with brilliant vocals and wonderful yet simplistic instrumentals. Saying this, you would expect me to give it a higher score. But no.

FKA twigs' first EP is a promising debut and really good EP. I haven't yet heard anything else by twigs, but this record proves to me the amount of potential that she could make something great. Whilst I wouldn't call anything on here great, every single track was good and entertaining.

I'm going to start this off by saying that this is not Deathconsciousness, and you shouldn't expect it to be that album when listening to this. It's obvious that if the band had tried to replicate that album then they would have failed. This album, however, is still great in it's own right. It's still incredibly heavy in it's themes, as shown in tracks like Burial Society, but it's clear that this is different from that album. They have clearly improved on some aspects and declined in some ... read more
I'm trying to grasp onto anything - ANYTHING - here that I could find any enjoyment out of, but no. This is 44 minutes of torture. This is also one of the few times where I've had to skip multiple tracks because of how unlistenable they are.
Also, yeah I couldn't even finish this. I gave up at the ninth track.

This hit really close to home. I don't even know if I can write this a good review, but I'll try nonetheless.
Deathconsciousness is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. The instrumentation on this record is damn near perfect, and don't even get me started on the lyrics and vocals. This album as a whole is just so damn dark and honest that it actually hit me really hard. There were certain songs that just had me feeling so emotional, and goddamn the last couple of tracks damn near made me ... read more
While On Avery Island is nowhere near the quality of its successor, it is still a solid album and a great debut. Almost every track on here is great and enjoyable. It's clear just by listening to this that they could create something truly amazing, and they did with the follow-up, praised and beloved In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Even though this isn't anywhere near the greatness that they would eventually make, it was definitely a necessary stepping-stone for them to make the ... read more
