1983 isn't the greatest work to come from Flying Lotus, nor is it too good of a debut, but it does have its moments. In particular, the whole first couple of tracks were so good that I didn't understand how it was rated so low here. The title track, Bad Actors and Orbit Brazil were all so fun, catchy and overall enjoyable and what I've come to love about Flying Lotus. However, after that the record just went onto a tangent of very poor tracks. Shifty was boring and forgettable, and Babble and ... read more
When I heard Anthony Fantano saying that this was worse than Supermarket, I didn't doubt it, but I did think he was exaggerating a bit.
When I saw all of the negative reviews here, I thought that they were all exaggerating. There's no way that this album is truly a 0, right?
Well, I got half-way through and decided that: yes, this is in fact a 0.
I don't give albums 0s too often because I believe that any album - regardless of how terrible it may be - can always have a certain quality to them ... read more
Classic hard rock band Led Zeppelin start off their career with one of the most well-known and beloved debuts in music history. Every song on here is either incredibly catchy or a really enjoyable listen. Everything from the phenomenal opener Good Times Bad Times, the extremely catchy Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and Dazed And Confused, and the mesmerizing closer How Many More Times all just make this album worth all the praise and love it receives. I struggle to find anything to complain about, ... read more
The Cry Of Love is a posthumous compilation album of unfinished songs that Jimi was working on before his untimely death for their fourth studio album. Despite the fact that everything on here is unfinished, everything is already good enough to be considered the actual finished product. There are even many people who consider this to be the real fourth album as it was intended, and honestly I find myself to be one of those people. Every single song on here feels like it could have been on an ... read more
Electric Ladyland is definitely Jimi Hendrix's most recognizable record, and one of the most recognizable of all time. This album is just amazing song after amazing song, classic after classic. There is never a dull moment on this fantastic album.
Like all of the Experience's albums, it's filled with phenomenal guitar work and extremely well-written lyrics. Many would call this their best work, but to me it's their weakest. However, weakest does not mean bad in the slightest when it comes to ... read more
This has NO right to be as good as it is! They rushed to get this out to uphold their contract stating that they would release two albums in 1967. This should have been a complete mess. How the hell did they pull this off?
This record is phenomenal; it's brilliant; it's damn near flawless; it's beautiful; it has some of the best guitar work I have ever heard; it's fucking magical, that's what this is! Jesus Christ, when this started I genuinely thought this would be Jimi's weakest project, and ... read more
Jimi Hendrix is regarded as one of - if not - the best guitarists of all time, and all three of his main studio albums are often cited fairly high on greatest-of-all-time lists, so I thought it was about time I listened to his work. And after hearing this, I have to say that I am not disappointed.
I know by saying this, I'm basically regurgitating what has already been said a million times before, and that's that Jimi's talent is undeniably amazing. Even over 50 years later his music still ... read more
Wow. I'm incredibly impressed. I said it in both of my previous reviews - The 1975 clearly have the potential to make something truly worth listening to. And with this release, they have finally proven my point. This record is great. All of the tracks on here have a quality to them that just makes them so fun to listen to. Tracks like TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME and Love It If We Made It are very catchy and are just overall fun. Then there are tracks that are just beautiful instrumental wise, like ... read more
The 1975's second album is much better than their debut, but it still isn't good. It has much of the same problems as their self-titled, namely that most of the tracks are just boring. Only here it's taken to a much higher extend due to the fact that this record is 1 hour 15 minutes. What made them think they could pull off something this long? There are few artists that can pull off one hour, let alone an extra 15 minutes. Honestly, this album would have been so much better if it was 20-30 ... read more
The 1975's debut album is pretty damn average. There really isn't much I can praise it on. The group are clearly competent and have potential to make something great. Tracks like Sex and Girls prove that they are more than capable to make incredibly catchy, fun and memorable songs. Yet the album as a whole is filled with boring and forgettable tracks. Songs like She Way Out and Menswear are just so goddamn boring that I genuinely can't even remember what they sounded like, and I thought that ... read more
Injury Reserves new album is not only one of the best rap albums of the year, but it is a definite contender for album of the year for me. The sound is just so infectious that you can't not move when listening. That alone made this record a blast to get through.
Also, this is easily one of the best written albums of the year so far. All of the verses and hooks are nothing short of great, and when even your interludes are incredible interesting and entertaining then you know you're doing ... read more
The National's newest album is yet another beautifully crafted record with not much to complain about, but I can't call this their best work.
To begin this, I'm going to say something that I've said quite a few times with The National, and that's that they should steer away from making something this long. I feel like as their albums got progressively longer, their sound has also worn off on me. Because of this, I find it difficult to really get into the album and stay focused for the entire ... read more
After nearly ten years, Rammstein finally release a follow-up to what is considered by many to be one of, if not, their best album yet. And after such a long time, I think this is probably about as good as you can expect. While this isn't bad, like at all, I do think that this is one of the weaker projects by them, and is overall a disappointment.
Some of these songs are really great, like HALLOWMANN and WAS ICH LIEBE which have some amazing instrumentals. However, this really didn't grab me ... read more
Edit: Funny how a few hours and a couple of listens later can make your opinion completely change. I'm going to pretty much just rewrite my review because my opinion has managed to do a complete 180, but I'm going to keep my original review up because I'm going to make references to it.
Tyler's new record is a vibrant and incredibly fun album that I feel like you can just dance to and not get bored. I honestly don't know what I was thinking when I originally thought this was boring, because all ... read more
Unpopular opinion, but I think this is one of the weakest albums in The National's discography. Still, it is a testament to the group when what I consider to be one of the worst entries they've released yet is still rated fairly highly. The reason why I don't like this as much as others is simply because it didn't keep me entertained all throughout. The whole first couple of tracks really made it difficult to get into the album, and there were multiple points were I started to just zone ... read more
Ooh boy, I'm excited. I had (and still have) mixed feelings on All Out Life and didn't know what to think, but this has convinced me that they are going back to their roots. I'm still not 100% convinced that this is going to be as heavy as Iowa like the band claimed, but this is still much heavier than most of the songs on their previous couple of albums.
To be honest, I went into this preparing myself for disappointment, but thankfully I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, Trouble Will Find Me isn't The National's best work, but it's still incredibly beautiful. This album has some of the best instrumental and vocal work in The National's career, and honestly there isn't much bad I can say about this.
However, I do feel like the 50+ minute run time is a bit too much for a band like The National. I often struggle to sit through their 40 minute ... read more
High Violet continues the same sound as their previous couple of releases, yet it manages to be The National's most enjoyable album to this point. Every single song on here is incredibly beautiful, packed full of emotion, and has some amazing instrumentals. Other than a few dull moments, I feel like this record is just about the most interesting that The National has put out yet. At the same time, though, I do still think that Boxer is better musically. However, this is still a great record ... read more
The National's fourth album is by far the one with the most praise, and I can definitely see why. Every single track on here is extremely good: the instrumentals, the vocals, the lyrics - everything about them is amazing. I find it difficult to find anything bad about this record, but I just feel like it isn't as good as some people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic project, but it doesn't do too much for me. Other than a good listen, it really isn't anything special. I ... read more
