The best Gorillaz album. The storytelling and world-building alone keep bringing me back to this album, I truly believe this album is a lyrical milestone for Damon Albarn. The soundscapes that are painted through the use of lyrics and a consistent aesthetic transport me to plastic beach. The various synths and rhythms used are so fucking catchy. The transitions on this album are impeccable. The feature list is huge and all play very important roles, I can't really pick a feature that I find ... read more
Y'all let this slide under your radar, one of the best trap albums released in a while
Some great individual tracks and songwriting moments on here. A lot of the instrumentation is forgettable, but Jenny makes up for his with her very solid vocal performance. Overall I like it, I jut wish it was a bit more creative
Really disappointing. I’ll keep retrying this album, I want to love it. First impression is not good tho. Lots of really poor writing and production decisions. The songs that do land aren’t even close to the quality of most of the singles. I’m hoping with time as I piece together the concept and story better that this will grow on me, but as of right now this didn’t deliver.
Fav tracks: HH, Unbearably White, This Life, Rich Man, Flower Moon, We Belong Together
This is really good honestly, I don't know where yall got this expectation that Q makes deep concept rap albums lmao, he always been following trends, and he delivered on this one too.
God damn I was really really feeling this album, that is until American Problem hits. Legitimately the worst song of the year and easily drops this entire album down about 20 points. Otherwise this thing is incredible
Horrid. I'm disappointed. Feels like one of those pop songs made solely for the promotion of an animated kids film(e.g. can't stop the feeling Justin Timberlake). Would be slightly more accepting of it if their were an actual animated movie to go with it
Really not as bad as y’all make it out to be. Nothing worth praise but the people dropping single digit scores are just circle jerking
I’m not particularly fond of this album but anyone actually giving this lower than a 50 is over exaggerating and a fantano dickrider.
A decent collection of verses and production. A handful of quotables and memorable hooks, but unfortunately none of the writing here is even close to any of these artists best. There isn't much chemistry between czarface and ghostface, and ghostface's importance to this album seems to lie more in his presence rather than any true artistic compatibility.
60/100 (solid)
What purpose did this serve? We get some boring, obsolete, Americana album every week now and now another except it's a passable tribute album? The only impressive thing about this is the quantity of recognizable features, but none of them provide a performance that makes any one track stand out.
45/100 (Below Average)
Nevermind. How coincidental it clicked on Valentines Day. This album is incredible. A great break in the monotonous sadness everywhere. James is happy. He has found true love. The appreciation he displays across these tracks is inspiring and has led me to introspect. I have something similar to what James describes on this album. Not the same life circumstances or struggles. But a common aspect that takes me away from those struggles and encourages me to overcome and that forgives and tells me ... read more
