Not mindblowing but pretty beautifully establishes what makes her sound very much her sound. The aisle and Blue are best work yet.
Good overall. A few cuts on here genuinely reach the heights of OG Broken Social Scene, revealing Andrew Whiteman and producer David Newfeld to have been a critical part of what made those early BSS records so good in such a special, hard-to-pin-down way. Not just lo-fi, not just abstract, not just poppy, not just sun-kissed, not just feminine, not just masculine, not just hazy, like expired 110 mm film... but all of these things at once.
Pretty derivative of his influences, but as his first released LP, this was an impressive indicator of Martin Newell's songwriting talents, and presaged the brilliance that was to come with The Cleaners From Venus. Also, Gunslinger is one of his loveliest songs ever, and in a just world would be a household-name classic.
