Rarely are albums this consistent. Madlib has always been a producer that allows his coworkers to perform at their highest potential but nobody has ever smashed it out of the park the way that DOOM did on Madvillainy. This album is smooth, funky, soulful, and yet doesn't shy away from having a bit of grit and smugness to it. It's an album that you can never stop talking about but also leaves you speechless. The amount of chemistry between these two is out of this world and when you can ... read more

Let It Be has the potential and perfect opportunity to be something very special. The album even kicks off incredibly. Two of Us isn't amazing, but certainly is a nice tone-setter for the record and I'd consider it an upper-tier Beatles song. Across the Universe is easily one of their best songs ever. The rest of the record is... not good in the slightest. Instead of making a record that could catapult the music world into the 70s, they went for a more old-school sound and took steps backward.

If any artist would like to take note on how to create an established debut record, use Fleet Foxes self-titled as your rubric. A soulful and warm record with lots of powerful vocal performances for someone with such a soft voice.

In a bouncing world underneath layers of slimy insects lives a notion of life where funk is all that matters. Welcome to Maggot Brain.

Dr. Dre is a master of satisfying sound. The funky synths are to die for on The Chronic. The whole record is all about making you feel good. Fuck everything else, make music, feel good.

“Musta thought I was sleazy
Or though I was a mark 'cause I used to hang with Eazy
Animosity, made you speak what you spoke” -Dre

With no irony, this album reminds me a lot of the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. It’s a soothing and comforting record about finding your place and the affect of ones upbringing. Tying these themes together and backing them with heartfelt instrumentation creates a warm experience for the listener.

Hey, I hope you're doing well.

I'm making a list where, judging by AOTY users' individual top ten albums, I'm compiling a ranked community top 100. I'd love it if you could contribute by just replying with your top ten ranked from 1-10; I'm totally fine with being redirected to a ranked favourites list of sorts, if that's what you'd prefer.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and replying, if you do.

Great pick! I listened to it a couple days ago and I also thought that it was great! I also thought it was alienating at times but I believe that Nick Cave’s music can take its time to click entirely, so I’m not worried!

About

Anyways, let's see what else I, uh... It was Coney Island. They called Coney Island, "the playground of the world." There was no place like it, in the whole world, like Coney Island when I was a youngster. No place in the world like it, and it was so fabulous. Now it's shrunk down to almost nothing, you see. And, uh, I still remember in my mind how things used to be, and uh, you know, I feel very bad. But people from all over the world came here. From all over the world, y r u still reading this
