I think it's cool and not necessarily poorly made, but there's also not much to it. Trance/house with average vocal performances.
Pretty solid, but maybe some of the tracks blended into each other. Definitely fun death metal for sure. I would say listen once and enjoy it and then take your favorite songs from it.
On the playing and mix side, the band is solid. Vocals are proper death metal too.
Random recommendation from Craig Reynolds IG story (shoutout The Downbeat, the best podcast).
Honestly, I haven't listened to much black metal, but this was sick! The church chant/singing vibes + the way they mixed this makes this album great. Atmospheric but with enough punch to not be fully ambient.
I feel like I may return to this in the future. Totally worth a listen!
The lyrics haven't aged one bit in 2026. They're perhaps even more applicable, so it's nice to hear some justified rage expressed through this album. I appreciate being able to hear everyone in the mix, and the band plays very well together. The balance between groove and blastbeats is on the money, and the songs refuse to sit still.
A special shoutout to "Praise the Lord (Opium of the Masses)" because the intro is stuck in my head all the time.
I really really enjoyed this! I know an album is good when I reach for it repeatedly to just "throw on."
This is easily on track to be my favorite metal record of the year. Each song has a memorable part, be it the choruses of "Everyone Dies Alone", "Talk", "Malevolent", the synthesizers on "Obsession", "Blackwall", and "Carry On", or the moments of pure riffage on "Heaven On High", "Unlocking", and ... read more
Technical perspective: super creative!
Song structure perspective: write more than one song type please
still a fun listen but likely won't return to it
This will probably be my album of the year for 2026. On one hand, the production and songwriting is incredible. Super catchy hyperpop hooks infused with EDM influences make for an incredibly engaging project. April does not shy away of giving her songs compositional depth either. All but one of the songs run over 3 minutes, and the use of dynamics and evolving sections make each song a journey for your ears to follow. There's layers of ear candy and harmony that takes multiple listens to ... read more
As the first VR album to come out since his previous almost 10 years prior, Simulation was a highly anticipated album for me. I was quite excited for it to drop, and I didn't end up disappointed. Simulation is a energy soaked exploration of modern dubstep and EDM through the bright neon lens of color bass sonics. I do prefer the -sound- of this album to his more recent one, as I am a sucker for color bass. But there are a few more throwaway tracks present on this album. Thankfully, ... read more
Virtual Riot continues to prove why he is one of the best artists in the game. I had the fortune to meet him at a meet n greet before his Dallas show in 2024, and he is such a nice and chill guy for someone who makes facemelting bangers. Much like the similarly named album from Skrillex (Quest For Fire), Stealing Fire is a EDM lover's dream with a mishmash of genres and styles. While VR specializes in dubstep, bass house, techno, drum & bass, and midtempo all make an appearance on this ... read more
Obviously throwaways from Ultra 85. The up and down quality of the mixing is kinda unfortunate. I'm glad he kept these off the album, but I'm also glad he let us hear them regardless.
Classic trap Bobby. This mixtape also has my favorite Logic track ever, "44 More," a song that will not ever be topped.
Great debut, definitely some bangers on here, especially the title track. If only his younger self knew how far he'd go from here.
This is -the- classic Logic album over Under Pressure in my opinion. There's so many classic songs on here, (Fade Away, Young Jesus, Intermission, Stainless, etc.), and the now expanded story of Thomas, Kai, and Thalia began here. This album is dope, it's cool, it's fire, it's legendary.
He was trying to be artsy on this one, and it doesn't connect for me. There's a few good songs on here, but a lot of it isn't really going anywhere. I also think it's WILD to have an anti-suicide song AND have a song that says "kill yo mothafuckin' self" on the same album (Juicy J wilin for that bar).
I actually like this one a lot, but I am biased. This was the first Logic album that came out after I became a fan of his, so I have very large rose colored glasses for this album. The production of this album is a great combination of boom-bap with modern sensibilities, a sound that he carried into some of his later boom-bap leaning albums. Getting all of Wu Tang back together on a song was legendary too.
Look Ik everyone hates on this album, but if you think of it more as a vibe album and less of a true artsy album it works. Fun, brainless rap to get turnt to, a la rage music nowadays. It IS very white music to be fair, but it's not the worst thing in Logic's discography tbh.
