For many artists, this would be their best album. DAMN has grown on me so much recently. While the album's quality is certainly more varied than most of his other albums, to say this album is anything less than phenomenal is an understatement. A few tracks here are among some of the best Kendrick has ever made. DUCKWORTH, LUST, XXX, and PRIDE are all examples of this. I do wish some tracks had more variety in terms of production and delivery like YAH. Though, those weaker parts of the ... read more
Bruno and Anderson is a duo that was bound to happen, and we didn't even know. This album primarily works so well because of Bruno's and Anderson's ability to play off one another in such a great way. This album is funky, soulful, and smooth as hell. If you are looking for an album that's an introspective and emotional journey, well this certainly isn't it. What a blast this album is. It's so clever, and such a fun classic soul revival. However, I do think this ... read more
On Gemini Rights, Steve Lacy floats over stringy grooves with a velvety smooth voice. So many of these songs are great, and the production along with overall sound of this album is just so refreshing. It's neo soul and bedroom pop presented in a really unique throwback package. Steve Lacy has an insane amount of talent, and while he somewhat capitalizes on it With Gemini Rights, it sometimes feels like he put a minimal amount of effort into it. So much of this project feels WAAYYY too ... read more
I don’t think Amnesiac really gets the flowers it often deserves. Unlike others, I do actually think this album isn’t a Kid A B-side, though, I think it is best taken in context of that album. I feel like Kid A is the spiral downwards and Amnesiac is the confirmation on how far down that spiral went, and it's an excellent representation of that. I think this album often gets trapped in a comparison with Kid A and yes, it is the weaker album, but it’s only really ... read more
This album certainly lives up to to its name, because it is groovy. However, don’t confuse it being groovy with it being shallow. While admittedly, this record isn’t a lyrical masterpiece or anything, I think it perfectly captures the ache that comes with young love. I love how each track flows into each other with the plucky guitars and incredibly memorable vocal performances by Blood Orange. However, this strength can also be this album’s weakness. I feel like sometimes, ... read more
What a phenomenally vague and heartfelt wonder this album is. Put someone who has no empathy in a room and give them this album. They will be destroyed by the end of the 53 and a half minutes. This album rips your heart out and puts it back in only to rip it out again. Parts of this album can mean so much in different ways to different people, that is what makes it special. I like to think of this album as chronicles of the human experience, almost like a glimpse into the worst parts of it. ... read more
This is album is so addictive and compelling. The result of a combination of fast paced bars, sporadic dark production, and intuitive lyricism is a unique and out of this world experience. The soundscape this album creates is so different from anything else I have ever heard. It's just incredible. Also, the idea and message of this project is executed in such a smart way. The idea being that Vince is capable of much bigger things, but he is trapped in a metaphorical fishbowl and therefore ... read more
These tracks should have just been on the record itself, as it would have fixed the main issue of there just not enough meat being on Cracker Island's bones.
This record has been quite controversial, so naturally, I'm going to give my two cents on it. This record has a multitude of issues, but being boring is not one of them. I was very entertained throughout multiple listens, and many tracks have continued to be in my rotation to this day. I think many are being a tad dramatic, sure, this record should have been more fleshed out, longer, more cohesive, but "worst artworks"? Come on man, seriously? Honestly, my main issue with there ... read more
This is how you do a collaboration project, take notes Sheeran! What a fantastic collection of singles. Every, single, one is good or great in some way, even if some are better than others. Even though it's a collection of singles, somehow, this project stays remarkably consistent in sound and quality throughout the whole duration. Maybe except some parts of Dead Butterflies and Friday 13th, but even they are still pretty good. The production, lyricism, and vocal performances (especially ... read more
This is the most varied out of any Gorillaz record in my opinion. Because, while I do enjoy much of this record, it could have been so much better had some tweaking been done. There are some genuinely amazing tracks on this album, that really push the sound and narrative of this album. The sound being a dark and electronic soundscape and the narrative being a party for the end of the world. Tracks like Ascension, Andromeda, Charger, and She's My Collar are all examples of this record at it's ... read more
I love, really love Gorillaz, but this really wasn't it. Look, I get it, it was made on an iPad, but this album doesn't really have much substance beyond the novelty of it. There are a couple decent takeaways, but most tracks on the album are just mediocre, with some more not so great tracks sprinkled throughout. At least it is consistent in sound, even if that sound doesn't really have much behind it. There really isn't much else to say about this record other than it's consistently mediocre. ... read more
Amazing to have one final piece of the band's art. This edition releasing is akin to remembering an old friend from the past.
I couldn't give this album anything less than a 100. Even this album's so called "weakest track" is something I adore. This was truly the greatest last huzzah that I could have imagined from Daft Punk. Everything this record did stayed with me, from the disco inspired production to the amazing performances by the various features. This album gives me that perfect warm bittersweet kick that I crave. Every moment of this record is memorable, from the ballad-esque track Within, to the ... read more
Human After All is so overhated. I think in retrospect, the robotic and haunting creativity of this album needs should get its flowers. I do think there should have been a little bit more to it, but everything is at the very least good on this album. I can see the genius behind this project; the robots becoming human might be a pretty basic narrative, but I appreciate how well this album executes it. Also, I may be one of the few who really loves the minimalistic production on this album. It ... read more
A genre defining House and Dance piece of Heaven, Discovery is possibly one of the greatest albums of all time. At no point does this album's quality drop. It's just that good. Some tracks may take a bit to digest, like Short Circuit, but even those tracks are outstanding. This album is an iconic soundscape full of mesmerizing synths and grooves like you have never heard before. I don't care if I sound like a car salesman, I will gush about this album. Listen to it if you have not already, just ... read more
Nectar has the highest highs in Joji's catalogue. Many parts of this album are simply outstanding. I mean, the soundscape is just so grand and massive, and Joji's vocals on here are better than they have ever been in his entire career. His vocal performance on Ew literally opened my third eye. However, that isn't to say that this record is perfect. I just think that if a couple tracks were dropped, rearranged, or moved to a deluxe, things may have turned out more consistent, ... read more
BALLADS 1 was when I think Joji showed his potential as an artist, even with it's flaws. This record just oozes with dark remembrance and emotion. The atmosphere this album creates is palpable, and Joji sings his ass off. That high note in Slow Dancing sends goosebumps down my arms every time. However, this record does have it's fair share of flaws, and it wouldn't be fair of me not to acknowledge them. There are some pretty forgettable tracks like that Trippie song, and Joji ... read more
I adored this song. Unlike his last one, it isn't derivative in the slightest. The lyrics, production, and mixing is all excellent and inspired.
TA13OO is such a great outing from front to back. The dark atmosphere and impassioned performances and production solidify this project as something near legendary. Everything on here was put in the exact place it should have been, from every verse to every song. This album just feels like a slow descent into a grimy and dark world where chaos is the only constant. Though, on a more technical level, this project is equally impressive. Denzel Curry raps like he's about to be evicted, and ... read more
