I wanted to like this more but the portion size was too much. The density of the notes and the runtime of the tracks, it was too much, like Bogtrotter with the chocolate cake. I do appreciate the artistry, but it's not for me.
Nothing will beat that first listen to The Low End Theory, but I loved the little factoids on this album. It makes the album distinct and memorable.
It's an impressive album so credit where it's due, but Sufjan Stevens' music isn't really my cup of tea. I couldn't imagine listening to any of his albums more than once.
When I said I didn't like 70s music I obviously hadn't found the right 70s music. Also, maybe I am getting old, I seem to be getting into calmer music.
It's nice but I didn't find this very satisfying. It needs more direction.
A little strange and not much like anything I've listened to, but a cool concept and I liked it.
Doesn't reach the highs for me as it does other people, too much filler, but nonetheless a cool album overall.
There is a lack of congruence between how dreamy this project is and how much of a punch some of the notes/chords pack. Her voice is completely unnoteworthy, very little stands out other than the force with which some of the music came in. Overall, this was a disappointing listen, I wish I had spent the 48 minutes in silence.
I can't get on board with any album where there is an American person speaking before the music starts. I am here to listen to and immerse myself in music not to listen to an American person chatting bollocks. It was alright apart from that, but this offence always deserves to be penalised in the rating.
It pings nicely but I'm not feeling it to the extent of other people. I'm very impressed by their versality though from the other albums I've listened to, certainly not a one trick pony.
The easiest 100 rating I've ever given. What a burst of flavour this was, couldn't stop nodding my head. It's in a class of its own.
Good but I dunno, it doesn't really feel pronounced to me. I was hoping to like it more.
This is absolutely wild. It's 1 hour 44 minutes yet the execution is flawless and there is barely a weak point. The arrangement of sound is perfect and his voice is so uplifting, I also didn't realise how much had been sampled and how many songs I knew without realising that I knew them. I don't trust supremely high scores because you can't trust people - Radiohead, Bjork, Pink Floyd etc I would close my curtains if they were performing on my front garden, but if this guy ... read more
I wasn't sure what to expect as I've never really listened to Janet Jackson. However, as soon as I switched this on, I loved it almost immediately. This is one of the richest and finest flavours I've ever experienced. It's like an expensive bottle of red wine or a fabulous gastro dining experience, the flavour is exquisite and it sounds magnificent. At 1 hr 15 it is a long one, but it completely deserves it.
