I will preface this review by declaring that I have been suffering from concussion this week, having cracked my head against the crossbar in a game of football (soccer for any Americans reading), so noise rock stoner metal wasn't the best choice. However, I really did not like this.
This music is so dense that you could physically use a knife to parse it. It's like that all the way through, all of the songs are just one big gloop of noise. You can't hear any of the detail as the ... read more
Sometimes you put two things you wouldn't associate together, and the product is better. However, this reminds me of a concoction my wife made while pissed up on holiday in Italy, when she mixed mojito with red wine. Not dreadful, but R&B glitchpop is not quite for my consumption.
It's perfect.
I trust nothing more than an 84 user score on Album of the Year. It's the goldilocks zone for album ratings; the album is just niche enough for people not to understand it, but if you do get it, then it scratches the most incredible and satisfying itch.
The perfect 20 minute morning pick me up. Can't believe Skeleton didn't make the final cut, what a track that was.
I wasn't enjoying this much until Memory Boy. I started to enjoy it a little more after that, then it was over. Probably worth another listen to see if it clicks.
Expressive vocals, emotional depth, infectious hooks, strong percussion, lovely collab and above all, fun and entertaining.
So many short and exciting songs, with excellent drums. If you don't like a song it's just two minutes until another one. What's not to like?! This easily passes the entertainment test and is way better than much of the highly rated, but dreary music on this site.
Guitar work, riffs and percussion - exquisite.
Tempo and variance - exquisite.
Vocals - complement superbly.
Entertaining - yes.
All music should be like this.
It's nice, good artistry and there's a few emotive parts, but it was a bit of a drag by the end.
How am I only just discovering live albums 😂 this sounds absolutely exquisite to my ear, the fact it's live and they've produced this performance makes it sound better than any other album I've listened to. Incredible effort. Top notch.
The quality of this is brilliant. I'm not much into rap at all, but there were some lovely grooves. I can understand why rap fans would go wild for this.
Not my favourite genre but this album puts you in a totally relaxed, contented state of enjoyment. Really good.
Nice background music, don't think I'll promote it to active listening though.
What is that wonderful noise?? Jeff Buckley uses it in the middle of So Real, Interpol use it in The New and Imogen Heap uses something similar in Loose Ends. It's just this delicious low, raw rumble/howling sound, this album is the first time I've ever heard it used unsparingly and I can't get enough of it.
Finding this album reminds me of finding old school cake. You know the one with sprinkle on top of it that you had at school. For years I couldn't find it anywhere, ... read more
My wife is at a concert and my toddler has finally gone to bed (thank god!), so I am free to listen to an album. Picture the scene, I am in my armchair, sipping a delicious 2024 lirac with assertive tannins, doing a deep listen of Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher.
My thoughts on the tracks were as follows:
DVD Menu - Yes, fine, marked clearly the next track so it did its job.
Garden Song - a nice repetitive rhythm, but a little slow. However, I can actually hear the lyrics clearly which is a rare ... read more
It was slow, but I liked when it bubbled over, which happened quite often in an understated way. However, it started to bore and grate on me after a little while. I appreciate the artistry here anyway.
This is dramatic and has melody. The sounds are so crisp and clean but work as a whole and it doesn't lack depth. Vocals not the best.
