I really hate it when people make their review of a soundtrack their review of the movie/game instead of actually talking about the soundtrack
Album Trade Week 8: @Rolymongone
What is the difference between a mixtape an an album? I've heard some people say that albums are more cohesive and tell a story and mixtapes are just a collection of songs, but... that's wrong. I've heard some people say that they started as a more illegal collection of songs that DJs would make and sell without licensing their samples but there are plenty of mixtapes nowadays that aren't that, so what even are they? Just albums with a ... read more

"When all of the clowns that you have commissioned
Have died in battle or in vain
And you're sick of all this repetition
Won't you come see me, Queen Jane?"
After listening to 4 hip-hop albums in a row I thought that for my next album for this week instead of listening to Charles Hamilton I'd listen to some good ol' Bob Dylan folk rock, I've never tapped into Dylan's stuff before but I've always heard its ... read more
Vaudeville Villain is the album released under DOOM's much less goofy and much more sinister supervillain persona, Viktor Vaughn, who showed up briefly on Madvillainy on the song Fancy Clown, a much more serious and angry song about being cheated on, which was a bit left turn from the rest of that album that consisted of a lot of goofier villainy antics. I absolutely adore that song off Madvillainy and so seeing an entire album based off of that persona of DOOM's is super cool. This ... read more

Some really nice hip-hop. The early 2000s were an insane time for hip-hop, notably DOOM was at his prime, and this album fits nicely into that era. It's fun, it's groovy, and it's really skilled. Lupe Fiasco is a really great rapper here, he has a softer, more relaxing voice that's super smooth in every bar he raps, which is awesome to hear. This is oddly relaxing, honestly, the jazzy beats on this album combined with the soft rapping make ... read more
"Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter"
Yeah, it's great. Del the Funky Homosapien raps really well here, it reminds me of MC Ride a bit off of Death Grips' work, and that's definitely a good thing. I used to have an issue with deeper rap voices like this but I've honestly gotten over it. This album's electronic beats are really great fun and fit the sci-fi dystopian vibe they're going for really well, I really love me a good concept ... read more
"I tripped a lot out here in the woods lately."
In honor of JPEGMAFIA's disparaged album release of "Experimental Rap" earlier today, instead of listening to something I don't think I'll like I'm listening to the real shit, DOOM. Madvillainy being my third favorite album of all time you'd think I'd listen to some more DOOM sooner but I guess I didn't, fuck me cause this shit is so good. Let's look at "Beef Rapp". ... read more

Sorry for being late, I was gone, off in California in Disneyland one day, my dad's PhD graduation ceremony the next day, and visiting the town I lived 4 years of my childhood in on the third day. So how do I like this album? Well... uh... it's alright. I'm not a big fan of this sugary sweet kind of electronic pop that feels like I'm being drowned in red 40 and glucose by the pound. It's honestly just a little too sweet for me, and the ... read more
PEGGY LIVE LIFE IN THE BACKROOMS 🗣️ 🔥🔥
Peggy's experimentation with hip-hop never ceases to astound me with his creativity and incredibly skilled production. His flow and rapping is as great as ever, his beats are fucking kickass as hell, and I'm just really pleased with this album. Sampling? Great. I don't see any issues with this album except for that Peggy's lyrics have never been my favorite thing on the planet, but this music feels more like a vibe to listen ... read more

The lost ones keepin' me up at night"
Yeah, he's really good. I've been hearing things about Kendrick. Almost everyone I've heard from believes that he's the best rapper ever to live and I think they might be right. I don't really know how to talk about this album. It's Kendrick. I've never really hard his music before and now I'm here and I feel like I know his music like I do my palms. It sticks to you. ... read more
“A billion people died on the news tonight
But not so many cried at the terrible sight”
This is an album I’ve known about for a while, since my mom likes it. She doesn’t play songs from it all that often but I’ve heard it now and then and I decided to actually take a look at it and it is wonderful. I love albums that feel like rain and this one certainly joins their ranks as something that would feel more complete sitting on a damp porch accompanied by the sound ... read more

200 fucking albums. Here we are. And compared to last time, I can really say we, since I've amassed 34 little seedlings that give two shits about what I think since I hopped onto this website one rainy day. So much happened to me since then, I've lived so much life, and yet music has stuck with me throughout all of that. Music is ... read more

Get get get get got got got got.
Death Grips is something else, man. After listening to the absolutely insane "Exmilitary" I was expecting going into this album to hear more of that unhinged, deep, guttural shouting style of rap that I got so used to from that album, but launching into the opening track "Got Got" I quickly learned that this album is a different beast. It's... different. It has a lot of the industrial, abrasive, ... read more

HERE WE ARE. I'M REVIEWING THIS ALBUM, AT LAST. I HIT THE ALL CAPS KEY TO TYPE OUT THE TRACKS AND NOW I CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO TURN IT OFF, SO YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS SHIT FOR THE WHOLE REVIEW. ANYWAYS, JPEGMAFIA IS AN ARTIST I'VE HAD MY EYE ON FOR A BIT EVER SINCE I LEARNED HOW BELOVED THEIR MUSIC IS, AND I DECIDED TO FINALLY CHECK OUT "LP! (OFFLINE VERSION)" AFTER A LONG BOUT OF AVOIDING IT. THIS ALBUM ROCKS. ... read more

"'Cause now I can only dream of touch, please get this pendant off me."
Jazz. Jazz!? Jazz! Jazz. This album is some absolutely banging jazz rap. I'm not really feeling like writing too much today so this review'll be short but Dixon's rapping here is great, some of the best I've heard, actually, it's sort of halfway down the road to Danny Brown's voice, not quite there but it's moving in that direction. The ... read more
This is my sixth album today. Holy fuck. Ryo Fukui's "Scenery" is a jazz album I've been wanting to check out for a while, one of the accidental themes for today: "albums I've been wanting to check out for a while". Except Hiskey. Fuck you, Hiskey. Anyways this is some really fun traditional sounding piano jazz, it sorta reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas album, if you know you know. It's very poppy, not like pop music but like the piano notes ... read more

Here I am. Finally listening to Bowie. Now, one thing I can say for certain about Davie Bowman is that he sure as hell has an obsession with stars. Stars are everywhere in his music, the titles of the albums, the titles of his songs, his final album ... read more

Here you go, @thekitchenfloor, I finally listened to it. Songs: Ohia's "The Magnolia Electric Co." is a really damn amazing country rock album, the guitars and the rhythms here emulate what I would imagine riding on a horse across the western rocks at night would feel like. The vocals from Jason Molina are exactly what I would want for this kind of album, he's got that twang but just light enough for it not to ... read more
it goes, it goes, it goes, it goes, it goes, it goes, it goes, it goes, GUILLOTINE!!
This is my second stab at listening to this album, deep voices have always been something I struggle to listen to but after punching myself into listening to and enjoying Injury Reserve's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" I can tolerate them pretty well, so I decided to come back to the critically acclaimed mixtape "Exmilitary". I first heard about this album from a VSauce video, in which ... read more
