"Ænima" put Tool up there with some of the greatest metal acts! The instrumentation here is absolutely phenomenal, the writing is fantastic and Maynard James Keenan's vocals are at top-tier for this album! The only real issue I have with this record is that the transition tracks, while interesting, end up feeling a tad unfocused. But they fit well enough thematically that it's easily forgivable.

"Inside The Rose" is beautifully-produced and orchestrated and is very cohesive overall. But it also feels like a slog with its frustrating track lengths. Overall, it would’ve been a pretty good record if some of these tracks were cut down.

HOLY HECKIN' SHIT!!!
Hold on to your bootybuttasses cuz this shit's gonna be a classic, I'm calling it!
Edit: FUCKING CALLED IT!!!
Jenny Lewis' vocals don't really stick out and her lyrics can feel a little phoned in at times in my opinion. But the melodies are super good to the point where I can forgive these flaws.

Very Good
While there's nothing that stands out lyrically, "Nothing Happens" is a surprisingly great debut from Wallows. The instrumentation, production and overall flow here is top-notch and the band wears their indie rock inspirations on their sleeve in a not-so-obnoxious way.

Great
Dam dis a bop n a half! "Hi This Is Flume" is like PC Music but on even more steroids... plus 50 gallons of gasoline! The experimental soundscapes are great and eccentric and the features (ESPECIALLY Peggy!) are absolutely excellent here!

Exceptional
After many years where Animal Collective had a sort of idea drought, Avey Tare concocts what is the strongest AnCo-related album in a very long time! "Cows on Hourglass Pond"'s production is beautiful, the lyrical themes are smart and the atmosphere is miles better than the nausea of Panda Bear's "Buoys".

So, coming off of "Wildlife", an incredible record requested to me by mah boi @zachthesnack (thank you again =D), "Panorama" left me a little disappointed. I still liked it a lot, though. It still displays a lot of the emotional intensity that gave me chills in the first place and the lyrics are as poetic as ever. But it doesn't hit me hard like “Wildlife" did when I first heard it and it doesn't really refine anything sonically from that album. Like I ... read more
American Football, not to be confused with British Soccer or Norwegian Table Tennis, have finally found their footing. After the disappointing second album, their third effort feels like a legitimate step foward for the band. The production is gorgeously textured, retaining their emo/math rock sound while leaning more into dream pop territory. It’s also extremely well-written and Mike brings out vocal performances that actually stick. Overall, this is a great return to form!

I like this a lot! It sounds like if you mixed "Lonerism" with 80's synthpop and disco and it sounds great! Can't wait for the new album!
WOOOOOOOWWWW... why have I been holding off listening to this album for so damn long?! Writing this review is going to be a nightmare, but here I go...
This album made me feel so many emotions that I rarely feel from an album. The lyrics are just so descriptive, picturesque, even morbid with the whole holocaust concept, yet it just hits me so goddamn hard in the feels! I feel the exact same way for the production too! The simple chord progressions of the acoustic tracks and the fuzziness of ... read more
So many chills, man! It's so uncomforting and disturbing in the best ways. "Spiderland" is a hauntingly poetic album from start to finish and the intense atmosphere just gets worse and worse as it goes on. If you consider "Breadcrumb Trail" to be "calming", then you haven't heard shit until you've heard the final moments of the record! I kid you not!

"To Pimp A Butterfly" may just be the most politically relevant record... ever! We live in a political landscape where white supremacy, systemic racism and police brutality are, unfortunately, still big problems and Kendrick stepping up to address these issues was a much needed breath of fresh air since most rap acts would follow genre stereotypes or "follow the yellow brick road". It never beats you to the ground with its messages, though, as Kendrick wants everyone to stay ... read more
Holy shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhit that was fun! "Remain In Light"'s beautiful textures and infectious funk grooves sound like nothing else from its era! "Consolers Of The Lonely" contains some of the greatest songs Jack White has ever written! The performances and instrumentation are outstanding, the songwriting is great and the melodies are excellent here! Brendan Benson also steals the show here with some damn good vocals and there isn’t a single track here that doesn't work!

What a great way to end off the Stripes' discography! "Icky Thump" is their most diverse album yet featuring some of Jack White's best songwriting, performances and, of course, riffs yet! Not every idea works, but it's still a solid closer overall.

Finally, after 15 years, we have a record that closely captures the twisted, enigmatic, concept-driven creativity of David Bowie's 70's classics. The dark, drug-fueled concept isn't as fleshed out and the characters aren't as memorable as those albums, but it still works well. In terms of the music itself, it's a return to the experimental sound of the Berlin trilogy with an industrial twist and Brian Eno's production is fantastic here. While the album does feel bloated, "Outside" is ... read more
While "Black Tie White Noise" is a definite improvement over his late 80's career and there are a few good tracks here, it's still missing that Bowie magic and there are some pretty bad songs on the tracklist here (the fucking synths on "Miracle Goodnight" make it sound like a leftover from the Yoshi's New Island OST).
