Welcome back to this week's Classic Rock Sunday. Today's album will be British metal band Rainbow's second studio album, Rising. I had previously reviewed their first album some months before, and I really enjoyed it. This album continues the fantastical themes introduced in their debut Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and makes it a stronger focus. Honestly, this album took out the bad aspects of the debut and took the great aspects and improved on them by a lot. Rising has ... read more
Classic Rock Sunday's second album of the day is the fourth studio album of Can, Future Days. Compared to the previous albums of Can, this album has way less vocals and prioritizes the instrumentals. I really enjoyed it, but it's not their best.
It is another Classic Rock Sunday, the first of today is the eleventh album from the critically acclaimed British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, Rumours. This is one of the albums I listened to some years ago, and I thought it was a great album back then. My opinion hasn't changed, I still believe that this is a great album and a must listen for anyone who wants to listen to an amazing pop rock/soft rock album.
I can't believe my 100th review will be on Weezer. Anyways, I listened to this because my sibling was interested in it too. Well, mostly because they watched a compilation of Jschlatt getting Weezer'd with the iconic riff from Buddy Holly. Overall, I enjoyed this album pretty well and I liked most of the songs. This album has a ton of charm that I couldn't hate.
Kanye West follows up his critically acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy with a collaboration album with Jay-Z. A great album but the first four songs kinda carry the entire thing lol. The production here is great, and it reminds me of MBDTF's. Although, this album's production feels way less maximalist compared to MBDTF. Jay and Kanye have really great chemistry on here as well, they bounced off each other quite naturally.
After I listened to Geordie Greep's The New Sound and LOVED it, I decided to go through his band's discography starting with their debut studio album Shlagenheim. This album feels like it has a chokehold on the listener throughout its' 43 minutes and never lets go until the end as the chaotic instrumentation from the drums to the guitars to even the vocals, the band hammers this intense sound into your mind. This is such a strong album for black midi's debut, I'm ... read more
(I should've wrote this review last night lol) Today's third and final album for this week's Classic Rock Sunday is metal band Metallica's third album Master of Puppets. I thoroughly enjoyed this, no bad songs here at all. This album picks up the pace by the first song and never slows down throughout its' eight tracks. Overall, this is an essential metal album that everyone should listen to at least once in their life.
On today's second album of this week's Classic Rock Sunday... Funk rock Funkadelic's third studio album Maggot Brain. The album has a funk rock and psychedelic rock sound, though it has some soul influences woven within it too. The album starts off with a 10 minute instrumental Maggot Brain with some clear influences from Jimi Hendrix, with an emphasis on the guitarist Eddie Hazel. The songs that proceed Maggot Brain are shorter and more accessible songs until Wars of Armageddon, ... read more
On today's Sunday classic rock album... The legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix's debut release Are You Experienced (North American version). Jimi Hendrix justifies his position as one of the greatest guitarists the rock world has ever known on this debut album. As an album, this is great. The psychedelic feeling that Hendrix wanted for the album is maintained throughout, from the production to Hendrix's alluring vocals. There are a few weak tracks (NA version) here such as Hey Joe ... read more
Pretty great album, I liked a lot of the tracks and Abel's vocals are so heavenly (as always). The album's atmosphere feels dark, Abel's vocals and the production help to create this mood. I was immersed the whole way.
Some highlights of the album are Tell Your Friends, The Hills, Earned It.
Spectacular album by rock band Black Country, New Road. I loved every song on this, and I loved the orchestra production on here, and I also enjoyed the progressive rock influence on this too, especially on Basketball Shoes. Isaac Wood's melancholic vocals are fantastic and he doesn't hold back at all as he lets his entire heart out on this album. The Place Where He Inserted the Blade, Snow Globes, and Basketball Shoes creates one of my favorite 3-song run in rock. Overall, I highly ... read more
Nemzzz has a ton of potential. His flow is pretty great, but the beat selection feels rather same-y. I hope Nemzzz releases more projects, because I believe he could release something great in the future.
Magdalena Bay delivers a spectacular and sonically creative synth-pop/dance-pop release with Mercurial World. Even on the weaker tracks like Prophecy or Follow the Leader, the album never loses sight of its' vision.
One of the strangest career shifts in history. I've heard of artists that switch their sound, Queen switching from progressive rock to more of an arena rock and pop direction, the white rappers who switch from hip-hop to country, and now Lil Yatchy switching from hip-hop to rock. This switch surprisingly worked. His heavily autotuned vocals work well with the psychedelic feeling he intended for the album. He seemed to have done his research, because this is a highly competent psychedelic ... read more
This is my first exposure of Denzel Curry. Probably one of my favorite lyricists in hip hop, he flowed really well on those wonderful sounding beats. Overall, HIGHLY enjoyed this album, and I love Denzel's flow.
Delicious album. I loved the jazz production on some tracks, so cool.
I was bored so I decided to listen to the first album that my eyes saw. This was on the front page of AOTY today for the year end lists and so I tried my ear with Fontaines DC. I gotta be honest, I haven't heard of Fontaines DC prior to this at all. Anyways, I tempered my expectations and I got a great album coming out of it. I liked a lot of songs from here, but the middle section of this album felt like Fontaines slipped and lost their footing for a bit. Luckily, they went right back on ... read more
