2021 has started pretty strong musically…
While I’m not super knowledgable about this genre, even I can acknowledge that this is a great post-punk release. The instrumentals were the first thing to really grab me, as they are usually fantastic, but as I’ve listened more I’ve started to notice the writing. The songwriting is pretty good, and while I’ve had issues with the lyrics being cringe with some other post-punk albums I’ve heard recently, the lyrics on ... read more
I’m not on TikTok but even I know this will probably blow up on there.
I didn’t love Flo Milli’s project from last year, but I thought she had a lot of potential. Also, anything with Kenny production gets me intrigued, and this is no different. The sample is weird af but I think it actually works. Flo Milli also has a nice presence on here, even if I think it could go a little harder. Overall nothing great but pretty enjoyable.
It’s your standard sounding song in this lane, but I think it’s actually executed well and is more interesting than what Selena has been doing lately.
If only the mixing wasn’t so terrible...
The beat is weird af and I think it’s an interesting backdrop for Thugger and Juice, but the mixing is so bad. The sound that pops in at the end of each section is so loud and everything just sounds off. If this was an unofficial leak I’d understand, but they’re releasing this officially. It’s a shame too because this could have been great.
The beat is not as good as it could be and DaBaby doesn’t really do anything on here that captures my attention. It’s not terrible, but not very interesting either, even if it’s decent.
Was not the biggest fan of the original, but I still thought it was a decent song with a very catchy hook. And on here, Doja and Megan bring a nice presence with some funny one-liners. Doja’s verse is a little better, as I’ve heard Megan bring more energy on tracks like this, but still a solid performance.
This is just a great sounding soul record. The production is great, the songwriting is solid, and Aaron Frazer has a great voice for this sound. Yeah it’s a little long, and nothing on here is anything I haven’t necessarily heard before, but it’s really well executed and makes this a very enjoyable listen.
Lana, please shut up and stop putting out idiotic statements on Instagram. Because this is great.
Edit: this has grown on me. 70 to a 75.
So I get shes an actress or something but why is this doing so well? Because after listening to it, it’s not bad and I like it but I’m not fully seeing the hype.
The production and songwriting are decent, but they feel a little standard for this sound. She has a nice voice though and brings emotion to the song, but while it sounds nice it ultimately just feels a little empty.
Probably my favorite track off Evermore. Not my favorite song sonically (even though I do really like it) but what really makes this song special is the songwriting. The structure and storytelling of this song is flawless and executed really well. The chorus is also ridiculously catchy.
Edit: this grew on me. 75 to an 80
Original review:
While nothing on here is super unique and the lyrics can sometimes be cringe, the melodies and her voice mixed with the production sound too good and are too catchy for me not to like this. There are some fantastic songs on here, and the features are pretty great too. There are a few too many skits, and the concept wasn't executed as well as it could have been, but overall this is a very enjoyable R&B record despite its flaws.
Edit: this grew on me, 75 to an 80.
It’s got personality and energy, but the production and the hook needed to hit a little harder for it to be as good as it could have been.
The beat is solid, and Slowthai isn’t bad on here, but the gap in my enjoyment between Slowthai and Rocky is massive. Rocky bodies this.
I admired RAP Ferreira’s last album more than I loved it. I was hoping he would come through with a more concise project, and while this is shorter and more concise, the songs on here just aren’t as compelling.
The production is solid, but it doesn’t grab my attention and neither does RAP Ferreira on here. Nothing on here is bad, and I like a lot of it, but it tends to fade in the background and I can barely remember each song as soon as the next one comes on. He’s got ... read more
Do Si Do alone brought this down -5
While this isn't the worst thing I've ever heard, the blend of country, pop, and trap is not well-executed and is at times laughably bad.
