A dizzying & punishing combination of black metal and jazz elements. As someone who’s never been huge into black metal this band has accomplished something really special.
Good Tiger comes through with their most forward thinking album to date. Especially in regards to soundscape & lyrics. Sound wise this new LP features the melodic prog rock/post hardcore elements we've grown accustom to. However ethereal atmospheres & electronic elements that were teased on tracks like blueshift from their last release. Get pushed to the forefront with songs like Redshift & Sunthrower Flower. Though I think one of their best switch ups comes in the form of the seven ... read more
Oliver Tree is an interesting figure
Meme king with a quirky image and some great music videos. I only recently discovered him with the single Miracle Man which is a catchy and fun tune. Giving me enough interest to check out his full release.
And yeah it’s what I was scared of.
It is for the most part a boring track list with pop rock cliches I’ve heard before. Oliver adds his own spin to it but it wasn’t anything that kept my interest. The first half contains a catchy ... read more
Very spacey & concise, Ferreira provides a jazz rap album that excels in its mellow headspace.
• (deeperthanbefore) - Great haunting introduction that does suck you into the atmosphere Code Orange proceeds to build upon
• Swallowing the Rabbit Hole - Our first introduction to the heaviness of the record. Love how the piano and drums play off each other as we descend into our first big riff of the record. The weird electronic elements amplify the chaotic nature of the record and then we get one of the years best breakdowns
• In Fear a great barrage of industrial & ... read more
Randomly decided to check this out after never listening to a house song in my life.
Each track stands on its own even if tracks like How come can be a bit to repetitive. The ep has enough variety and mood to warrant multiple listens.
This one is going to have to grow on me. It's very different from any math rock I've heard this year, but I can't find much repeatability with it . Definitely deserving the praise it's getting right now. Even if I can't completely hop on the hype train.
Oh it's finally coming together, Jesus Christ what a whirlwind of syncopation. The angular prowess of these guys are next to unparalleled in today's math rock scene. After listening to three Horse Lords ... read more
With RTJ4 being my first full length Run the Jewels release that I've given my attention to. I was taken a back by what a powerful listen this is. Everything Killer Mike & El-P say across this 39 minute track listing. Comes off so genuine & true to their experience.
It's nothing if not a engaging listen throughout, with short but sweet tracks. Heavy on bass and a colorful production helps set this apart. But each song contains various elements that really elevates each track to stand ... read more
From concept to musical execution. The Seer triumphs in delivering a disturbing psychedelic experience. The two songs that close out this album are among the best closing tracks I’ve ever heard on an album. Laying back & allowing this to consume me. Led to the first album to ever make me cry on and off for an hour after listening.
The Seer left me in a very empty and haunted state, that no other album has managed to do with exception to Daughters 2018 release. It’s soundscape ... read more
Still the only album that actively terrifies me to listen to. Perfectly complimenting the mysterious & dark atmosphere of the film it’s made for.
Trivium has always been one of those bands who have some great singles. But have never been able to pull me in for a full album. Though this is better than most of their releases.
I knew Plini was a super talented player. Though I wasn’t expecting the level of groove and even relaxing melodies he brought out here. This was just super enjoyable all the way through. Can’t wait to see what else he has in store down the road.
Gonna have to come back to this later, some of my favorite music is disjointed. Which this certainly qualifies for. But I’m not sure how much of if worked and how much didn't. While I never thought any of it was outright bad. Some of it just felt played out? Yet it used these similar elements in ways I haven’t heard before. I feel confident in the score, but I can guarantee it’ll change.
Rare times have a soundtrack complimented a film so well. There’s a surprising amount of catchy qualities found through the misery. The music reflects everything the movie expresses. Deep sadness, existential, thought provoking and yet there’s hope that could be found. It can be taken and examined at different angles like all great art. Jon Brion has outdone himself here.
Feel like this will only get better across more listens but my god is it packed with an energy that matches its lyrics almost to well. Can’t wait to delve farther into this.
