Proof that Drake is only a good lyricist when he tries. Drake's Charged Up and Back to Back, the diss tracks directed at Meek Mill, were the last time he sounded this angry and ready to rap. His commercial releases since then have been lazily written and didn't show a shred of the lyrical talent seen here. Ghost writers? I doubt it. However, Drake's lack of consistency in his lyrics is extremely obvious and coming at him for it is more than fair.
Fair amount of straight up filler, but the highs are very high.

Although this is much shorter than I would have liked, I think this is definitely the best to ever come from Pusha and the best release on G.O.O.D. Music in a long time. Very impressive bars and spectacular production, an overall phenomenal project. I gotta say though, Kanye's verse is my least favorite part of the album.

Edit: To be honest I have done a complete 180 on this song. When Lil B dropped his Options mixtape that had This Is The BasedGod on it, I decided to check out the original song again and loved it. I read what I originally wrote and Yeah i still think Childish Gambino has more bad songs than good but I was thinking way too hard about it. Its a fuckin rap song, not a thesis. So since I embraced This Is America, it has become one of my most revisited songs. Very literally, thank you ... read more
1+ year delay and a 22 minute album is released, fuck SoundCloud rappers
The singles are all you have to listen to. Pynk, Make Me Feel, and Django Jane are really engaging and fun songs with a central message of female empowerment, which can be found on all of Dirty Computer. The album falls off very quickly however, resulting in an impressive but forgettable pop project that still stands out among this year’s releases.
Post Malone has a really cool sound that sets him apart from his counterparts, but this project is too one-dimensional. His writing abilities aren't the best, his singing is good but lacks variation, and the same can be said about the production. Singles such as Candy Paint and Psycho caught my attention, but the full length project really fails to get much support from me. I still think Post Malone has potential to make solid music, but I doubt he will ever capitalize on that ... read more
This isn't interesting or creative in the slightest. All that was done on this "mixtape" is some absolutely random songs (from Kanye, Kendrick, Young Thug, even fucking Death Grips and 2pac) were cut up and placed randomly into Yeezus, which is also scattered sporadically across the tape.
I can make the same thing that you hear on this shit in 20 minutes MAX, and I have no musical talent. Don't promote bullshit on this website, and if you do, at least put some effort into the ... read more
Far from the already-abstract hip hop that Young Fathers put out years ago, Cocoa Sugar can simply be described as glamorous. The lush production paired with well-written verses and painfully strong singing makes for the best album of this year so far, giving me something I really think will only get better with time.

The recent emo-hip hop trend has brought many interesting characters to the music scene. Artists like Lil Peep (R.I.P.), Lil Tracy, and Wicca Phase Springs Eternal have brought a unique sound to a genre that is traditionally very emotionally closed off. The emotion put into their lyrics may not always be genuine and can be pretty cheesy, but in the case of Lil Zubin, it's different. The Misery EP shows his best work yet, showing Lil Zubin putting in that extra kick which many other emo ... read more
Japan is easily one of my favorite songs of the year so far, but the rest of this album is honestly less than impressive.
Surprisingly still banging this 8 months later, Nyck @ Knight has a few tracks I keep in heavy rotation and now has me excited for what these guys do next.
It’s always exciting to hear something new from the legendary DOOM, but this project is not what he needed to get himself back out there. The production is fine and the vibe of the album is the same that it is on most DOOM projects, but the rapping from all artists featured is extremely underwhelming. Esoteric and DOOM just hobble along, while I actually think Inspectah Deck shines the most.
