EDIT #2: THIS BANGS I REALLY LIKE IT A LOT NOW
VROOM VROOM MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE SONG OF THIS YEAR
EDIT: revisited this a few times, and it really isnt awful. but it is messy. charli could have a great record with this same style, just with some fine tuning and cleaning up. sophiee killed this on the production, absolutely stellar.
after the unthinkable success that came from their debut album, The Heist, the indie hip hop duo macklemore and ryan lewis come back almost four years later with their sophomore release. and if i could describe it in one word, it would have to be "corny". now im not one to push away a good comedy song every once and a while, but this had just too many of them. macklemore is really effective on funny tracks once, maybe twice an album, but when the entire project is 60% meme? not ... read more
you know i actually appreciated what yung lean had to offer based on his first couple projects. but i wait almost 2 years and i get this? no, im done. yung sherman, as always, had absolutely incredible production. in all honesty he should do some work for other rappers or release some solo music because he has some major potential. but this is a yung lean LP, not sherman, and thats what brings it down. every once and a while there would be a nice hook or catchy line, but he basically said ... read more
im not exactly sure how i feel. there were no great tracks, some good ones but not standout best. but as a cohesive album, it worked really well. as there always is in any dumile project, there are just too many skits. thats what really brings this album down for me. however, the verses are really good, as is the production, which was just what made 80's and 90's hip hop great all put into one piece of music.
fav tracks: sweet premium wine, gimme
one of my favorite songs right now. im really feeling post malone, super hyped to see what he has in store for his first full length this year
decent but had some pure shit moments. future's voice sounded a lot less congested and scratchy, but god was the topic material shitty. i thought that mike will made it had some pretty nice production on here. deeper into the album the music just gets gradually worse, i couldnt stand the last 3 tracks.
this is an easy album to look over if youre into future, and if you are you might wanna give it a listen. if youre not a fan of future, dont even bother. i dont consider myself a big fan of ... read more
some cold blooded metal that is a nice change from the rest of the 80's metal scene. the lyrics were kind of humorous to me, not as in that they were poorly written, but they were clever and satirical. along with that the guitar riffs were mind blowing. i dont really have all that much to say about this record, it was kinda short and i think there couldve been more said, but aside from that no complaints.
fav tracks: wake up dead, the conjuring, good mourning/black friday
SPEAKERBOXXX REVIEW:
this is easily one of my favorite southern hip hop efforts. big boi put in work for this one, with some of his best verses yet over amazing beats. i found a great progression in the dirty south sound that was found in stankonia and what i heard on this. killer mike had some dope verses as well. the whole flow of this half of the album was really terrific, it kept me paying attention throughout and i was constantly intrigued.
RATING: 87

i listened to this track the day it dropped, and was underwhelmed. i've thought macklemore was just an ok rapper with some good songs, but i've liked him as a social figure. i gave this another couple listens, and i really like it. macklemore juxtaposes his conscious identity with what he is very famous for, his pop and mainstream appeal. its really long, just a couple minutes too long, but he has a lot to say. i know that the new album wont sound like this, in fact it doesnt look to me ... read more
has some great energy and would be perfect in a club atmosphere. but the album is much too long, as is each individual track. opus was very well produced, and i think eric prydz did a phenomenal job on this LP, but the tracks took too long to get to the drop or change in melody. still a great piece of music for parties or dancing, which is what this was really made for.
fav tracks: collider, eclipse
phoenix has a knack for making some of the catchiest pop-rock tracks. they have a great 80's synth style, and the hooks are ear candy. eventually, the band sounds a little monotonous, but they still have some beautiful songs
fav tracks: entertainment, chloroform (one of my new favorite tracks, really great), don't, oblique city
EDIT: I don't know why so many critics loved this album so much. It was very generic and has next to no replay value. Paak's voice gets to be annoying after a while, and the charm feels very manufactured.
a really happy and upbeat record, perfect for the summer of this year. anderson .paak is a wonderful singer, and he had some great beats behind his smooth vocals. there was a very joyous feel to this project, and i could stay focused throughout. it's not amazing, there is still some ... read more
damn so i guess im one of the few who feels this strongly about this LP but it really blew me away. as far as metal goes, i havent listened to that much of it. im a huge fan of metallica, and i really doubt that any other metal band will make as large of an impact on me as they did. but god damn is this an incredible album. i didnt think anything would come close to master of puppets, but this is just a bit better. the vocals were dreary and had a depressed tone, they were very well ... read more
