instant classic. d'angelo gives us a comforting and soulful project that is one of the most important releases of the decade. this project made me feel really good about myself while listening to it, full of optimism. in my opinion this is the feel-good album of the decade, and i doubt it can be topped soon.
fav tracks: sugah daddy, till its done
some of the most hard hitting and refreshing electronic music from this year. the masterful use of buzzsaw synth beats and drops in bass make this project extremely mosh-able. easily the best electronic LP of 2015 and one of my favorites from the past few years. hounds is a really small band/group/artist (i have no idea which) but i hope that they can get their name out, this collection of songs is insanely enjoyable.
fav tracks: transfiguration, diviner, faust
the only thing that i thought this project needed more of was big boi. i feel like there were too many features, or the hooks went for too long. big boi is a terrific rapper, and i was really looking forward to hear what he had to say. he had some great verses, but they were scarce. i was also insanely confused when i heard yelawolf come on here. he was so out of place and delivered a rather weak verse. i thought the concept of this LP was great, and it was nice overall, but i just kept ... read more
a based masterpiece
seriously, i didnt think i would enjoy this album nearly as much as i did. i found lil b to be oddly inspirational, his raps had a really positive message that i found comforting. the production was alright, a few beats didnt seem to fit with lil b's voice, however he made them work out alright. really surprised on this, thought it was really enjoyable.
fav tracks: unchain me, the wilderness
least fav track: get it while its good
sufjan goes electronic, and it works out great. the melodies are on point, and although they are very unorthodox for stevens to use, they are so well executed. at times the tracks get a bit messy, with just a little too much going on, but they balance out, and the end product is truly beautiful. i doubt that sufjan stevens will go back to this type of sound, but it would be nothing but delightful, should he do it.
fav tracks: age of adz, vesuvius, impossible soul
EDIT: I don't know what I was doing by giving this a 100; caught up in awe I guess. terrific album, but far from perfect.
80's pop at it's finest. the instrumentation and production was near perfect and it created such an incredibly aesthetically pleasing vibe. the lyrics were pretty nice and creative as well. probably had some of the best synthesizer work of all time. the cover matches the sounds; theyre both beautiful. power, corruption & lies is the best combination of rock and ... read more
injury reserve said that they were the best rap act out of arizona, and they are. this tape had some of the best production of 2015, along with a really enjoyable overall vibe. it was laid back sometimes, and others it was a bit more agressive. but vibes cant save an album. the raps were average at best, and that really took a toll for me. these guys suck lyrically, but production wise theyre great.
fav tracks: snowmen, wow, everybody knows,
poppy and uplifting, phoenix gives us an album for every occasion. you can dance to many of the tracks, just chill to them, or really whatever. the hooks are extremely appealing, and the guitar combination with the synthesizers is a great mix. my only gripe is that the singer begins to sound the same, and stick to the same notes to sing in after a while. apart from that, this is a really enjoyable LP, one of the best rock records of the 2010's
fav tracks: 1901, fences, girlfriend's
kanye, i love you, but come on. this is such a poor excuse for a release, especially when you have the talent that west does. we know you didnt have full creative control at nike. we know youre on adidas now. we did not need a full song to tell us that a year later. i give credit for a few keen lyrics here and there, but i wish this wasnt released.
it gets a little repetitive, but that doesnt stop this from being easily the worlds best shoegaze album and one of the best albums of the 90's. the soft vocals over guitar riffs and a very soothing atmosphere put my bloody valentine in their own league, this LP shows what they can really do. classic.
fav tracks: to here knows when, when you sleep,
chief keef delivers a very inconsistent project. the first few tracks were really enjoyable, but it slowly got more and more wack. some of the production was outstanding, had some really interesting parts and pieces to it. chief keef even had some memorable lines and verses. kay kay had some really great choices regarding production as well. then the track "laughin to the bank" rolled along, with actual laugh samples, perhaps one of the worst production choices i have ever heard. ... read more
future's first tape of 2015 was almost as strong as his 2nd. the production is again fantastic, but future's vocals are a bit more distorted and out there. zaytoven did an amazing job behind the boards, and future did nearly as well on the mic.
fav tracks: no basic, just like bruddas
i really cant bring myself to give this anything lower than a 70 due to just how much i loved these songs when i was younger. pure pop gems and unlimited radio play throughout this whole LP. definitely one of the sugariest and most upbeat pop albums of the 2010s
fav tracks: california gurls, firework, e.t.
j cole is the #1 most overrated rapper by far. nothing unique or special is here, its boring and faux-emotional. if youre looking for conscious hip hop or something with meaning, seriously look elsewhere.
futures hardest bars and dj esco's best beats. future's flow on this tape is absolutely prime, he matches the production style perfectly. march madness is easily the best track on the tape and a great club banger. future's lyrics were solid on this as well, this mixtape was overall very well rounded.
fav tracks: no compadre, march madness
too many features, WAY too many skits. one of the weaker projects from DOOM but was solid. the production, which was 100% from DOOM, was phenomenal and was a high point of this LP, but none of the verses impressed me too much. i got a little bored because of the slow pace of the tracks and the lack of bars from DOOM himself.
fav tracks: fazers, the fine print
honestly, i thought that this was great. the collaboration worked out really well. big boi and phantogram complemented each other in an intriguing way, his bars and her soft vocals juxtaposed created something memorable. the production was absolutely amazing and oddly futuristic. i think a big grams full length album would be pretty great.
fav tracks: lights on, born to shine
