having a "virtual band" seemed like a silly concept at first to me, but then i listened to a few gorillaz tracks, followed by their debut LP. and boy was i proven wrong. gorillaz has such a unique mix of many genres including rock, hip hop, pop, and electronic music. the guest verses were very good, and it's not like these were nobody rappers either. the instrumentation was very impressive, the variation of different mediums used to create the instrumentals was one of the best ... read more
a bit better than it's predecessor, bang 3, but still not as good as chief keef's debut LP. chief keef has some really solid production on this album, even though it was all done by other artists, it worked out really well with keef's voice. the themes of the songs were really stupid and what we always hear from him: about drugs, crime, and money. i think that chief keef should experiment a bit more with his sound, it might deliver a really nice project

thats us right now
future gives us a seemingly unorganized mixtape that could have been on par with his last 2 tapes, had it been more focused. even ds2 was better than this. many of the tracks sounded the same, future kept the same crooning over very minimal and repetitive production. i guess this wasnt awful, as a couple tracks were really enjoyable, but it was a little TOO much future in one mixtape.
fav tracks: no charge, purple reign
least fav tracks: never forget
RTJ2 is one of my favorite albums of all time. i appreciate the intent for this remix album, but its really not all that great. the first two tracks really blew me away, i like them almost as much as the originals. but then the production just became so underwhelming. i know it can be VERY hard to produce with only cat sounds at your disposal, but if only a few tracks are gonna be good, then release a short EP of the best tracks. but it was made for charity, so im really not gonna throw ... read more
the perfect way to go out. theres no way that bowie did not know that his time would come soon after this album, because some of the topics are just so emotional. the jazz sounds were really breathtaking, and bowie's vocals were still incredible, after over 40 years into his career.
fav tracks: lazaras, i cant give everything away, girl loves me
the lyrics of this album were greatly lacking, but it has so much energy. all three members of migos deliver with such strength that the actual content of the lyrics doesnt matter, they still go hard. great dance music, chill music, and anything else. really isnt too much substance to this, but it really is a fun LP, and im glad it didnt try to be anything else.
fav tracks: highway 85, memoirs
least fav track: cocaina
it gets inconsistent throughout, but future has some solid bars on this tape. it was the start of future progressing his sound, and leading to the next outstanding mixtapes and decent DS2. the production didnt really impress me too much, but future surprised me here with some singing and strong hooks. had this not been made, future probably wouldnt have the druggy, southern style that he has down now.
fav tracks: fuck up some commas, throw away, codeine crazy
least fav tracks: showed up
EDIT: Yet again, Nirvana just fails to be one of those bands that I feel the need to revisit. This is probably peak grunge for me, as the genre altogether really isn't something I can get excited over.
in utero was a much messier, rawer album than nevermind. and thats what makes it so good. in my opinion it didnt have the same energy that nevermind had, but the variation is needed. kurt cobain showed a lot more emphasis in his lyrics, i felt that they were a lot stronger and a good sendoff ... read more
could have been a LOT worse, but still wasnt great. i feel that, from what i can tell, chief keef peaked at finally rich, which still wasnt even a terrific LP, but was fine. bang 3 was a watered down finally rich. there were very similar beats and lyrics, although that can be found throughout keef's discography, it was much more apparent here. not really bad, but i wished for a bit more. what could i really expect
EDIT: From the time that I initially reviewed this album, I never once went back to it, or any of the songs on it. Despite this being one of the most influential albums ever recorded, it doesn't stick with me all that much.
a really unique all around album. as the first piece of music to bring grunge into the mainstream, it really probably is the best grunge album ever made. Kurt Cobain's varying vocals range from rough and scratchy to light and hopeful. it was an extremely consistent LP, ... read more
insanely bad album. keef has the same tone throughout the project, and it is a whiny, annoying one that just gives no appeal. the production is what kept this above water, and it wasnt even that great honestly. collab song with kanye west sucked, and phone might be one of the worst tracks of 2015.
masterpiece album. the lyrics were a really emotional story over some of the best instrumental work of the 1960's. this really is what rock music is, and what it should be. the sounds are uncompromised, and a completely unique vision is portrayed. warhol, arguably the best artist of all time, gives the artwork for arguably the greatest album of all time.
fav tracks: sunday morning, venus in furs, heroin
repetitive and bland, beach house seemed to be still experimenting with the dream pop that they now have perfected.
fav tracks: astronaut, holy dances
ugh i regret not listening to this sooner, easily one of the best albums of 2015. the guitar riffs and vocals created a melody in each song that was a really memorable experience. there were definitely a few hiccups here and there, but nothing really took away too much.
fav tracks: the devil in his youth, uncle mother's
in the first of his albums titled after a state, sufjan stevens does what he does best, and it really works out well. his vocals are his usual, majestic, soft sounds, but what really was spectacular about Michigan was the instrumentation. there was a mix of an awesome variety of strings, brass, and other unconventional instruments, which made this one of stevens' LPs that was a lot different sound wise. he continues to give good music throughout his discography, and that is why sufjan ... read more
EDIT OF FINAL EDIT: I love Kanye
FINAL EDIT: uninspired and nothing new from kanye. i like it, but cant say its a hit anymore. very high highs, and very low lows.
EDIT: reading my original review made me cringe. 2 months after the release of this LP, i have some change of opinion. i still love this album. i think it's great, and will likely be one of my favorites of 2016. but the flaws are so apparent to me now. yes, the new mix definitely did tlop justice, however that doesnt change ... read more
