I think everyone has said everything there is to this album and the project as a whole and I'm not interested in tainting all of that. Removed from all that context, it's a great and terribly interesting ambient album, even while considering its shortcomings or rather its weak points. A horribly literal overview would describe the thing as the same 40 seconds looped over vinyl crackle and white noise, and while completely true and funny it wouldn't be fair to disregard the whole ... read more
As of date Ween's last studio album, and it's not that bad. I think out of all songs at least half of them are salvageable because they either have a good riff, good vocals or are just so stupid and outdated that it loops around into being good. Unfortunately that doesn't work all of the time, there are definitely a lot of songs that just suck ass and even the ones that I consider OK most fail because they're pretty uninteresting. The thing that confuses about this album is ... read more
Something I've noticed after listening to Death Grips more and more is that they fucking nail their openers & closers, every time. All my favorite tracks wind up being the first and the last one, the energy they bring to the table gets me so pumped. That is also the case in here, I could listen to Death Grips Is Online on loop for days man that beat is so good. Not trying to downplay the rest of the album, it's still pretty good and keeps the momentum going throughout, just not ... read more
Really puts the "industrial" in its place. Goddamn even before listening to the album Kanye had a stacked fucking team producing, getting Daft Punk, Arca and God on the same album is heavy work. You know it's a much more experimental album than his previous stuff just by listening to it for 1 second and it feels like eating rice cakes. I don't think I like it as much as other people, I just can't fully get behind all of the bizarre instrumentals and ideas going on and ... read more
Fucking hell Spinetta could've found the cure for cancer, cure for AIDS, gone to Mars and back and still would've made a banger album while below the age of 30, #lifegoals. You can just smell the progressiveness oozing from this record, there's a lot of stuff going on throughout that I really like but also can't stomach it all the way through. I mean there's nothing too crazy going on most of the time and I like prog rock a fair bit, I'm just not that big of a prog ... read more
Man Cerati's a fucking genius, it's unbelievable how good he plays all the genres he does and how he manages to blend them together seamlessly. Being much prior to Bocanada this is a relatively straight forward alt rock album, there's not a lot of crazy stuff going on or too much experimentation or the lot but goddam is it good. You can very clearly see he was still in Soda Stereo at the time seeming as though it is a Soda Stereo album in all but name, I'm pretty sure there ... read more
Another album I've said I listened to but didn't go through it all the way. This is way better than Demon Days, there's practically not any filler songs and all of them are bangers. While I'm more of a fan of the trip hop and rock influences in that album I can't deny that I really enjoy the varied, tropical sound of this one. The synth-work especially sticks out to me, it manages to sound dated but in that sort of reliquary way. Just a great one to listen to, ... read more
That album cover's ice cool man.
This is Black Country, New Road's first full length project after the departure of Isaac Wood, and it shows. It doesn't just impact the vocal side of things (now all the singing is done by May Kershaw) but Wood's absence has also vastly changed the band's musical identity, as they have opted for a way more pop sound than their previous works. They ditch the bombastic orchestral approach present in Ants From Up There, reeling it back ... read more
Today was rainy and I really wanted to listen to Untrue for some reason. Man this is a great record, I love basically everything it pulls off. The whole thing puts you in this very specific zone that makes you feel utterly lonely while also the songs themselves being absolutely fire. Honestly this is an album that is way too entertaining to research about, the little information Burial has let out about his life and how he produces his music is so thoroughly interesting, and reading some of the ... read more
ok this is exactly what I want! I felt like gethsemane was pushing a lot of things, some not as well as others. Here it's relatively straightforward but still has that sort of spark that I dig. This better be aoty fuck bcnr
I think I made my goal for this year to listen to a Muse album once a month, sadly this is the last of the good ones. Unrelated but for the longest time before I ever listened to this band I thought the 4 guys in the cover were the members of Muse, so for a bit I would just picture them playing whenever one of their songs came on. If there's anything that I can attempt to sound smart on is that this is very much a poppier record than their prior efforts, even more than they already are, ... read more
Interpol by Interpol, not to be confused with Interpol by Interpol released 8 years later. You don't really see a lot of bands promoting their albums through EPs these days, I've never thought this format suited rock music outside of promotion even though bands have been doing that for many, many years. It's sort of like how I associate mix tapes to rap exclusively, simply because I can't imagine an electronic artist calling their project a mix tape when they could just call ... read more
I've never heard a lot of Jimi Hendrix's stuff, just the usual popular songs that get thrown around everywhere like Purple Haze or All Along The Watchtower. I just put this on because it was at the top of the CD pile I'm clearing and the cover is weird and I like lightly weird stuff. For someone who is definitely not a big blues rock-head I can say there is some quality in this album I can appreciate. Of course Hendrix's guitar work is the highlight of the whole thing, ... read more
I find it really funny that the back cover of this album states that Smith wrote all the songs but instead of just having a line that says "All songs written by Smith" at the bottom he has his name written in brackets after every single title
