Did not know that Black Wing was yet another one of Dan Barrett's projects, alongside Giles Corey.
Amazing
This is easily one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever listened to.
There's nothing exact to convey the concept of nostalgia for places that exist outside of reality and are psychological. Rook, in her Bandcamp description, sums up the EP as "partly an attempt to synthesize one of those places, and partly a nostalgic reflection on some of the ones that i already know of." There's a digital sugar-y atmosphere to all four songs, in a glaze that makes shoegaze proud. There's ... read more
Concrete Castles: Insomnia Café's trump card that nobody really outside of the community knows about, save for the community.
I listened to their EP, Pianole, the other day... and being a fan of ambient and absolutely loving the shut out of atmospherics, it's absolutely one of the most overlooked lofi things to study or relax to.
I originally was going to listen to this around the time I checked out Alkaline Pink, another relatively famous producer within the Insomnia Café. And ... read more
I haven't really delved too much into AOTY music, especially those under the Insomnia Cafe collective.
So when I found out prob again that Concrete Castles had self-promo'd in my shoutbox, I figured... why not check them out. But at 56 minutes minutes and upon hearing a preview, I lost interest. When I was browsing through my project's Instagram, I saw that Akaline Pink was following me (although I'd argue followers mean shit, but who am I to complain?). Upon inspecting them closer, I see ... read more
This project is great at conveying atmosphere and style... and that's about it.
I agree with Toaster that this is too tame to leave an impression, save for "Red Urchin Tempest", " Unlikely Pair" and "Daffodil Wisdom" (maybe).
The sounds are great, sometimes they feel same-y. It's miraculously consistent to the point of just sounding stale at points. Even as someone who likes future bass and wonky, artists like Flume and ODESZA... it doesn't really take risks a ... read more
Holy shit.
I had heard of Black Country, New Road before but holy shit. Of all the things I was thinking: Indie rock. I was expecting them to be indie rock! I wasn't expecting them to be a completely new kind of experimental rock!... also Ninja Tune signing them? Isn't Ninja Tune a predominantly ELECTRONIC label?
BC,NR seem to set themselves up as an experimental post-punk band with influences of post-rock and jazz, and they seem to be very much informative towards their vision of ... read more
In response to the longest album that The 1975 have ever released, I will make the shortest review ever.
This is the most experimental release the band has done yet, and it kinda makes sense given it's the "end of an era". I give Matty the benefit of the doubt because honestly, for all the bad takes he has... he has some good ones. But yeah, this is the IAOTY.
Inconsistent album of the year. Also I partially agree with Brad
I'm gonna say off the bat, this is one of the most impressive albums I have ever heard from any AOTY artist ever.
In general, I think AOTY artists are clearly passionate and ambitious but a lot of them leave some room to be desired. Am I being too harsh? Likely. Lately I've been close-minded towards new music, especially AOTY music. With the history of new things and the fact that I decided to give this a try.
I had no idea that Eli was releasing new music, but he's been getting p good ... read more
How did I fucking sleep on this? This is a hardcore fuckin slapper.
Plus new Avenade track was... honestly something I did not expect so. I'm looking forward to new Avenade album, and seeing a turning point in discog.
As far as everything, holy shit. I'm gonna wait and save up for the cassette bc boy o boy. This is special.
First off, Panda Rosa (actually Prizes Roses Rosa... and p.rosa) is one of my favorite independent artists within the new century. All of the albums I have heard from him are stunning and blow my mind away... they all feature such gorgeous, lush, and expansive production and instrumentation. If you've never heard a Panda Rosa album, check out "Neochina". I highly recommend it, it's their most accessible work to get into if you want to visit his more ambitious territory.
And another ... read more
I have never been so magically disappointed at an Idles release, coming from a person who thought Joy was bad... I can even safely say Joy was better than this shit. So much filler with few great songs, and it feels like a complete rehash of their work beforehand
The change between this and Fluorescent Art is astronomical given that they were released within the same year, and only in the span of months.
Neupink does not play around
What always interests me about Loathe — and what sets them apart from everyone — is how cinematic all their works feel. They employ tricks out of the metal book I'm sure other acts have done (including djent acts), but they never fail to capture attention and mostly keep it. The way they put electronic and synthetic influence in their works is soooo cool. And honestly, they are the only metal band I know who SINCERELY put effort into their music videos and employ themes and ... read more
Time for my cljesse review.
Where do I even start with this album? Well, it's metalcore. It's alternative metal. It's basically a Deftones wannabe, from what everyone on RYM is shitting up. I could be wrong. It's from a metalcore band that was formed in the UK, and have released an album or two beforehand. People are comparing this to Deftones because they are also alternative metal, and they also like to dabble in shoegaze. Which is one of my favorite genres/sounds.
But, if I'm going to be ... read more
Album of the Day - Day 2
So.
This EP is really cool. I expected like lo-fi hip hop stuff, and with all the tags bart gave themselves... I honestly thought it was going to be underwhelming. But it delivered fully. Not only that, but it even surprised me. When I even checked the time left, 7 minutes had passed.
And I was like what?
Yeah. It's really cool.
