See, this album has a lot of potential, and at the start it's really good, but throughout the album's course, it kind of loses its charm. It's consistent in sound, the singer's vocal qualities are good, and the instrumentation is very complex, but there's not a lot to set some tracks apart. It's not bad, just less good than the first 3 or 4 tracks has you believe. It tries a lot, but it lacks highs to keep more energy within the listener. A similar album to this ... read more
I don't really get the hate on this. Like, it doesn't live up to their self-titled, but it isn't really bad. The cons are that there are fewer highs than the self-titled, and the post-punk garage sound is more washed out now, but it's still a perfectly serviceable album with some nice tracks. It does lull a bit in the middle, but I think the score is a bit low for something that really isn't all that bad. Nothing award-worthy, but nothing a net negative.
This was a pretty cool indie rock album! Obviously, not everything lives up to Take Me Out, but there are moments that are just as fun, namely The Dark of the Matinee, Auf Achse, and This Fire. The singer has a nice voice, and the composition of each song is usually fun enough to keep the momentum going. It does have a bit of a weak start and end, but the middle is full of fun tracks. My only big complaint is that sometimes the mixing makes the production sound muffled or off, but it ... read more
As a project I can respect this. After trying it I can confidently say drone music isn't my thing, but this if still well produced. The concepts of Heaven and hell are handled really maturely, and it still carries that well-utilized disturbing nature of Preacher's Daughter. Listening to this should be treated as an experience and not an album, because it's more of an audial art form. Very avant-garde but solid.
At first, I didn't really get the hate on this album. The first few tracks were pretty alright, I mean, nothing was really amazing, but things seemed pretty alright. Production was sorta unique, and I really liked the first track's beat. And then nothing fucking changed. The entire second half of the album blends into one slog to get through, where even though it's only about 20 minutes, it feels somehow longer and shorter at the same time. It's so derivative is the problem. ... read more
Echoes of Silence has the best of House of Balloons, but the worst of Thursday. There's more production, good vocals, and less dull parts, but the album also tapers off in the middle. At least there are more components to instrumental beats, so it's not boring like Thursday, but it's still not on the same level of HOB.
See, this isn't necessarily bad, but it's both a massive step down from House of Balloons and also a massive letdown from the rest of Abel's discog. There are good ideas here, but they get lost beneath the long and drawn out productions. Some good moments exist, but they're so few and far between with little moments that make it kind of a slog to get through, sort of like how I feel with Hozier. Abel is better than Hozier but this sill was not it.
It's kind of surreal seeing such a big-name artist like The Weeknd start out creating such a raw and dark project like this. This is honestly just a hard listen emotionally. Beneath the vocals and beats lies a really dark habitual pattern of life that really feels depressing to watch him spiral. As for production, this is really solid for a debut. Really nice voice, especially in High For This and House Of Balloons, and the R&B beats work in the favor of the record to create a grittier ... read more
This is one of those albums that makes me ashamed that I'm nearly 18 and only now listening to this for the first time. Living near the Detroit area, I've always had a soft spot for Soul and Motown. It invokes a warm feeling within me, a feeling that's like home. Ever since I set out to listen to more music, this album was always on my list. I created this "backlog" of over 125 albums, and filled it with all sorts of albums; personal interests, recommendations, and ... read more
A pretty neat EP of some Sin Miedo highlights. I'm not a huge acoustics person but her voice goes really well with this sound. Not a lot to say, really, it's good for what it's worth but I prefer base Sin Miedo still.
Oh wow who could have guessed I rate a Kali album high??
Something really interesting about Orquideas to me is that it feels like a companion to Red Moon in Venus, but is also entirely different than anything else she's made. This feels like a soulful expression of one's self, and it's so good because it's just so unapologetically fun. It's like if Sin Miedo had all of the parts I didn't like about it fixed. Longer songs, detailed production, a stronger vocal ... read more
guess who forgot to log this after listening to it like a week back!!
"As a deluxe album this is pretty solid, a lot of powerful performances from sza on here and a lot of the pros from the og album still hold (vocal performance, instrumentation, writing, etc). it doesnt feel as free as the base album and there are a couple more songs that are just good as opposed to great but more sza is always a good thing. I just wish there was more variation between the slower tracks, and a stronger ... read more
This is an album that I think I was biased to like from the very start. Fleetwood Mac is probably my mom's favorite band, and so, listening to this for the first time, it felt warm, like home. I recognized a lot of the tracks already, even beyond the ones everyone recognizes.
As an album, I think this is really interesting, because it's a really well made concept album. It's almost like seeing the same events from every perspective imaginable. Every member of this band has at ... read more
Get this shit back into the must hear category hello???
Tommy is a rock opera that seems lighthearted (a deaf and blind kid learning pinball) but actually examines exploitation, drug usage, selfishness, and "woke"ness in the 70s. In a way, it's almost like a tragedy. The kid has lived an entirely different life than all the others, full of so much more, and yet so much less experience, so it makes sense how the story eventually resolves.
Aside from the great writing, the music is ... read more
I don't get the relatively low user score for such a classic album. Now, I admit this is my first Elton John album, so I have no frame of reference on what's actually good compared to this, but this album is very solid as it stands. Elton John has a great writing style, amazing voice, and instrumentation that just sort of hooks you. When I listen to albums like this, I really try to imagine myself in that time period to imagine what this felt like back in '71. On the actual album ... read more
I was honestly pleasantly surprised to find that Violator was as well of a put together album as it was! Of the past five albums I've listened to, I've come to expect a "1 really good song, a handful of mid songs" vibe from Depeche Mode. I had heard that Violator was by far their best, and the Fantano 10 definitely made me wonder if it was genuine or just mob mentality. Anyways, I can safely report that this was good. Was it the masterpiece most people claim it to be? No, ... read more
Overall, The New Abnormal is an album with a very strong opening and ending, with a middle that kind of lulls at points.
I'd had heard The Adults Are Talking many times before listening, and so this listen was long overdue for me in many ways. I already knew going into it that I loved the first track, and the second track kept up the quality from the first. However, the middle went from amazing to just good. I wouldn't ever say it was bad, but there were some things that definitely ... read more
Folk/country still isn't my favorite genre, but I can admit this is a pretty good album. The writing is probably the best part, because the lryics really rag you into the world of the album. It's more akin to a warm campfire as opposed to a trucks and beer type of album, which I really appreciate. Overall a good time
This is album that has a great lead single, and then sort of hit-or-miss non-singles. I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad, but it's kinda disappointing. I loved Dr. Feelgood and Kickstart My Heart, but the rest was just kind of okay, cheesy and outdated metal. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be coming back to this anytime soon.
