yeah, i really enjoyed this actually! I think that the use of drum and bass throughout this song was a very refreshing and interesting sound, and it combines surprisingly well with a lot of the dreamier instrumentals that felt like something off of the mixtape! I also appreciated that while there is some clear influence from artists like Jane Remover in terms of the sound and production style, this still feels like its own thing. I do wish the vocals were a bit more present and that the lyrics ... read more
"Circles" is a peaceful, bittersweet sendoff to Mac's career, and life. While the album itself sounds very light and sweet, it's the unfiltered pain that shines through in Mac's delivery and unintentional foreshadowing in his writing that makes these songs that much more impactful and difficult to swallow.
Unfortunately, despite its outstanding opener, the majority of Cool It Down for me shows Yeah Yeah Yeahs at their most generic and commercial. That's not to say that it's bad, in fact, I quite like it! It's fun, it has some upbeat instrumentals and very good vocal performances, but this just didn't really stick the landing for me in the same way that It's Blitz! did.
It's Blitz! shows in just 40 minutes that Yeah Yeah Yeahs really are something special and shows just how much they stood out against their contemporaries at the time. Considering this is an indie rock album from 2009 with an electronic/dance edge to it, this SHOULD sound extremely dated and like a product of its time, but to my surprise, not only has every musical idea here aged like a fine wine and I think these songs still sound awesome to this day, but the production here is amazing too and ... read more
cute! has some mixing issues but it's harmless for the most part. also, i checked this out because i remember hearing one of the songs in hilda, but i think sappho was in heartstopper as well??????? idk i haven't seen the show in a while, but if any of you know please tell me i feel like im losing my mind
Since this is still so fresh, I'm going to keep my thoughts on this brief, as I imagine I'm going to be spending a lot more time with this over the coming weeks. Anyways, it's great! This definitely draws the most obvious influence from Medúlla and Utopia, and much like both of those records this manages to have a completely unique and consistent artistic direction and sound. If there's one thing Björk is never lacking in it's creative ambition. However, judging by the two singles ... read more
to hell with it is a collection of mildly enjoyable, but ultimately unfinished pop tracks that serve little more purpose than filling up a Spotify playlist of "vibe music".
Uhh... wow.
So I will admit that I'm not too familiar with billy woods or his music, but I gotta say, I think this record just threw him on my radar because this album is AMAZING! The whole atmosphere of Aethiopes is very dark and eerie, although there are numerous moments here that you keep on your toes as to what the next song will sound like, stopping the whole thing from ever feeling boring or repetitive. The lyricism here is also just incredible, it's to a point where it practically feels ... read more
Sigur Rós' untitled effort is one that continues the same beautiful, atmospheric sound of its predecessor, while also managing to be its own thing. Unlike its predecessor, however, () often reaches dramatic climaxes and very large conclusions in a lot of these songs, while never sacrificing any of its natural beauty and peacefulness. Instrumentally, this thing is another beauty from Sigur Rós, and vocally this entire record is sung at a much lower pitch than Ágætis ... read more
Stripped of the usual added production of her studio works, Choe presents Aoba's music in possibly its most raw and naked state. As a result of this, little sounds such as something in the room, or the sound a phone makes when it's moved slightly, are a lot more audible, making for one of her most intimate projects to date as well. This is just such a beautiful project. While not every track here is amazing, there's a beauty to Ichiko's music that manages to shine through regardless of the ... read more
Very bad songwriting, spotty production, and decent vocals all come together for an album that's more of a mixed bag than anything else. Nothing particularly bad, but nothing particularly special or memorable, either.
I mean... what else is there left to say, really? I'm struggling to compliment this album or this artist with something but everything I can think of to say I've already gushed over and discussed at length numerous times in the past, so I'll just leave it at this: "gift" at Sogetsu Hall doesn't feel real. I cannot believe a human being made this. It may just be a woman sitting with her guitar and singing, but it is the most beautiful thing I've probably ever heard.
Going to need every single one of you that sees this to rush and listen to this album immediately, this thing is so underrated oh my GOD! Anyways, The Best Party Ever is a very silly, happy little twee pop album with some fun, childlike lyrics and bouncy, cute instrumentation. However, unlike a lot of albums that try to do the whole happy-go-lucky aesthetic and sound, The Best Party Ever also incorporates some occasionally depressing lyrics or themes of fearing the fact that you're gonna have ... read more
Very pretty. Makes me imagine the sun going down on a tropical island as I'm walking around, listening to the sounds of the waves moving in and out.
Midori's debut studio album shows their sound at an already pretty fully formed sate; rare for debuts. However, its biggest thing holding it back from being a masterpiece is its occasionally weak production and slightly rough around the edges production. Everything is here - the confident, incredible vocal performances, the loud abrasiveness, the heavy jazz influence, all the pieces were in place, Midori just barely missed the bar of being able to bring these ideas to their fullest potential, ... read more
Remember when this was just supposed to be me going back to and listening through Ichiko Aoba's main 7 studio releases? Doesn't that feel so weird to look back on now? Anyways, I don't know what the hell this was other than severely disappointing. Over the course of going through these albums I had yet to stumble across something that I didn't like, and I think at this point in my life Ichiko might unironically be my favorite artist ever, but this is where I draw the line. This is what I can't ... read more

Some of the most beautiful, comforting music I've ever heard. Thank you for this, Ichiko. ❤
