Emotion - Carly Rae Jepsen

Woo here goes my first full fletched review...

Carly Rae Jepsen's 2015 pop masterpeice, Emotion is without a doubt one of the most clever and iconic pop albums of the 2010s. Carly goes through all her different points of views of her love life and friendships with some of the best produced, catchiest songs of synthpop as a whole.

The opener track for this album, Run Away With Me, is probably the best opener this album could have asked for. Obviously this album ... read more

KIDS SEE GHOSTS - KIDS SEE GHOSTS

This album genuinely sounds like heaven and hell at the same time. The futuristic production is absolutely stellar throughout the whole 24 minutes of run-length. The samples are also just so well used. Ye delivers amazing bars consistently for once... The features all add their bit without stealing the spotlight. Overall this project is nearly perfect, but it has a couple of things that I wish for. First of all I wish it was longer, because I just want more of this. I don't run into this kind ... read more

Taylor Swift - Speak Now

I don't like the cover. This album however, I like. It's not groundbreaking, but it's sweet and conceptually holds itself together well talking about a lot of personal conflicts she's gone through. The lyrics on this record are very well crafted and hard hitting, while remaining very clear and understandable. Sometimes though, I do think when it comes to instrumentals this album can be very overwhelming. A lot of the slower songs feel like they're always missing an extra little something that I ... read more

Foxes - The Kick

Interesting album. There are many ideas on hear that I quite like and that I wish were pushed further and worked on a bit more. The album kinda flopped for me as it just had me at the edge of my seat waiting for a big moment, but those didn't always happen when most expected. Production wise this was nothing crazy, but a few tracks implemented some crazy good brass instrumentations. All in all this album maintains a certain enjoyability but doesn't maximize on what it tries to pull off.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B

I am glad some of these songs were B Sides, not to say this was outright bad, just nowhere near my enjoyment level of Dedicated. As a whole this album just felt very underwhelming, regardless of it's predecessors. It got a bit more into lyrical songs but those ended up being a bit of a slog when mashed with some of the bops. As for the production, I wasn't near as impressed as I was expecting seeing as these were B Sides of Dedicated, which had amazing production. Overall I feel a bit ... read more

This is no Emotion nor is it similar, but I'd be lying if this album wasn't a blast. The production was actually stellar and extremely consistent. As far as Carly's performances she had some ups and downs but still made every song catchy. Pretty straight forward album, but does it's job very well.

EARTHGANG - GHETTO GODS

I gotta say I like EG's contributions way more on the dreamville mixtapes than on a solo record. While EG did have a lot to say, a lot of the songs ended up falling flat and being very forgettable to me. As for the production, they really got nothin special going on, just some generic trap beats. The features were really good though I gotta say. Oh and the freaking interludes/skits were just soooo unnecessary and brought absolutely nada to the album.

Wtf... I went into this album with really low expectations, but damn this shit way better than I could've predicted. This album is quite funny lyrically, it's not the most solid bars out there, but the cringy kind of funny lyrics, which is something a lot of artists can't pull off. I won't discredit the bars that actually are good, but the same goes for the bad ones ("Now we talkin' stocks and bonds, NFTs and cryptos The money profit crackin', so to the bank a crip go"). Spiritualized - Everything Was Beautiful™

The instrumentals on this are just so fucking beautiful man. I had a hard time enjoying some of the vocals on a couple of the songs but all in all this is pretty solid. Also gotta mention how sweet the writing is on this. I've yet to check out other Spiritualized albums but this definitly has me excited to do so :D

$NOT - Ethereal

I know I'm not supposed to listen to lyrics on these kind of albums but got damn I just couldn't help but cringe at some of the awful bars on this thing. Also most of the beats sound like they were stolen from a lil uzi type beat compilation. All the good parts of this album were the features. That says a lot about $NOT and my hope for his upcoming records...

Yung Lean - Stardust

3/4 of this album is absolutely intolerable. I do just not get the appeal of most of this. I will give credit to the production being very interesting, sadly Yung Lean's vocal performances absolutely ruin any enjoyment that could be pulled out of it. There are some highs but out of the consistency of the album they mostly just feel like flukes to me.

Young Thug - Punk

Holy fuck this album is dreadfully dogshit. Soulless, uninspired, generic, boring trap. It's way too long which makes it even worse. I don't have much to say except I was excited for the end of this shit, which isn't a good thing. I don't like going all out on albums but if it needs to be done, I'll do it. Also god damn Icy Hot was so bad.

Young Thug - So Much Fun
60

Honestly this album would've been much better if it was shorter. I think the album name suits it though because this album really is fun bops one after another. It kind of falls short on some of the features and some of the hooks for me personally. The production on this album is honestly really good, and for the most part carries it. If you're into trap I'd recommend this as it would probably appeal to you more:)

Lil Yachty - Lil Boat
70

Honestly, this album is just a ton of fun. It's got a charm that not a lot of trap/pop rap achieves. I can appreciate that it achieves exactly what it wants to achieve though, without it being over ambitious. I wouldn't expect to enjoy a mixtape from someone like Lil Yachty who has released a lot of music that I find rather unappealing.

Ty Dolla $ign - Featuring Ty Dolla $ign
50

Quite melodic and smooth, which is to be expected with most contemporary R&B / pop rap. The albums biggest struggle is probably how bland and void of emotion it is. There's a couple bars that give me a chuckle here and there but it doesn't feel very personalized. I like the average Ty contribution as a feature on other albums.. but for a whole Ty album? Eh.

Mustard - Perfect Ten
30

This album is painfully mediocre. It has quite a short run time and fails at making anything special... it's just generic trap. Despite what the title suggests it isn't a perfect ten, it lacks way too much substance. On GOD is a great track, I will admit.

Sleepy Hallow - Still Sleep?
30

Honestly pretty generic emo-ish trap/drill. I don't hate this as much as I don't love this. Most of the production feels over minimalist and underwhelming. Just not huge on this and some of the lyrical content is questionable.

Harmonium - Les cinq saisons
80

I'm not very big on french music as I just am not huge on the sound of the language, but this has such a rich and unexplainable emotion that I just can't *not* enjoy... Some mixing issues here and there but this album feels like a pretty journey throughout every season. Quite the soothing experience.

Radiohead - OK Computer
90

OK Computer, one of the most important and dare I say, best records of the 90s. With it's incredible theme's that some would see as dystopia, but I would say is more about where this planet really is going. It took my quite some time before giving this record a chance as I was in my phase of hip-hop/rap and the only impression I had of Radiohead was Creep... which is not exactly entrancing to me. Once I gave this a chance, it was an immediate click (which I know doesn't happen for many ... read more

Weatherday - Come In

First Impression Review;

I think the perfect way to describe how I feel about this record is if Car Seat Headrest made lo-fi black metal? This album is really unique in it's way, simple lyrics with beautiful instrumentals mixed in a very lo-fi way. My Sputnik Sweetheart is the track that surprised me the most, despite it's length it progressed really well and the end of the song just hits really hard with emotion, which goes for most of this album. I will probably come back to this more than ... read more
