i'm only upset that I cannot put this in the running for AOTY. Protomartyr might have the closest thing to a perfect discography and I'm very grateful they've decided to re-release this album.
It's fine, after the first few tracks it ends up feeling a bit....done and done
As Sunn O))) as you can get, its very by the numbers but even a little more active than previous albums. Not a bad thing as the album is extremely well produced and all sounds comes through this wave of static clearly.
Definitely not an album for someone who doesn't like or is just trying to get into Sunn O))) and i dont think I would recommend it over Monoliths & Dimensions in the end
Favorite part: When they say boogie
Least favorite: When they dont say boogie.
And out of nowhere comes The Chemical Brothers (Whom i've never been a huge fan of) with one of the strongest releases of 2019. It's a high energy no stop love letter to the 90s and I cant get enough of it.
Plus the artwork is some of the best of the year too
Few musicians work emotion into their music like The Tallest Man On Earth. He can make me cry when I'm happy and smile when I'm sad. His musicianship and lyricism really shines through on this album more than anywhere else.
Favorite Tracks: My Dear, I'm A Stranger Now
Damn, I need a shower. But its always nice when a band who seemingly is going for just shock value actually has good music to back it up
Electronic at its best. Extremely upbeat and full of life and texture.
At its surface its a fun and different electronic album that draws you in with familiar sounds and crystal clear production. Once you dig deeper and learn how it was made you can start listening close and trying to decipher what each sample was made using. It becomings an immersive and insanely textured experience I wont be forgetting any time soon.
This album is nearly perfect. It's one of the most genuinely calming and peaceful albums i've ever heard, the sounds are warm and inviting and for 30 short minutes you really feel at peace.
My only complaint is that it feels a little dated, the synth sounds aren't as timeless as something like Kraftwerk of this era, it feels much more 1970s stock music which can be off putting to some, even to me at times.
Still worth a listen, and I will be coming back to this.
Not a complex or intense listen, but its a good listen with some good sounds and great songs. I'll have this one on for a while
It's so bad, its SO BAD.
But i'll give it +5 for its influence on music. One listen is enough for me, but even in that one listen you can actually pick up how this was so influential, its just...so bad.
Dream like, lush production with soothing female vocals can either go really well or really poorly. They pulled it off kicking the production up to crazy levels and allow it to shine and work with the vocals in the best way possible.
