This is basicaly perfect in terms of both lyricism and production.
This is so weird but so good. Idk what to even think about these beats. This is fire though.
The government and racism aside, this. Album. Is. Just. So. Repetitive. And. BORING.
One of the strangest & most fun albums I've heard.
The amount of ideas in this thing is insane. Some songs literally made me fall asleep. But not as in that they were boring me, but kinda in a hypnotic way, like in Too Much Love.
And then there were songs like Never as Tired as When I'm Waking Up, which sounded like if Pink Floyd made electronic music.
The beats overall sound like he took random trash cans off the street & started tapping on them. So even if not all songs ... read more
I don't really know how I expected this album to sound, but definitely not like this.
Again, it tries way too hard to be unique without trying to, y'know... sound like music.
Something snapped in this guy to just out of nowhere make beautiful music with amazing lyrics & super creative production. He doesn't just do party music now but something more vulnerable and deep that fits him super well.
I might have to go back to this album later. This is just the same thing that he did in his albums before it but with slightly more entertaining production & better lyrics. But if the lyrics are the only redeemable quality of this album, then I'd rather just listen to an audiobook or something.
The production is actually very creative, The lyrics are pretty good despite being really freaky sometimes, and Mac somehow got Kendrick, Wayne, and Joey all on this project.
Since JID made his most successful album The Forever Story, he's at the peak of his career, which means two things. He's gonna have a stacked feature list from people who obviously wanna be a feature on a song made by one of the biggest new rappers at the moment, and he's gonna try his absolute best to top this critically acclaimed album.
I think this was more of a training sesh to master all the different sounds that fit him, that he will most likely try to use in his next few ... read more
It's crazy how something as simple as this becomes arguably the most influential hip-hop album ever made, but it still just kinda makes sense.
Obviously rap changes over time. New production, new flows. But the flows here are so fresh and people still base their flow and style off of this album. And it was made in 1987 somehow.
And even though I don't take influence into account making my reviews, this is also just a kinda nice album. The repetitive production mixed with the smooth ... read more
Holy shit. This literally fixes everything. My complaint with JID's music was that he never really tried something new, but this fixes all of that. His flows are now versatile and addicting as hell, the beats sound like something new, the features are mad impressive, and the Storytelling on some songs are just mind-blowing.
This is about as good as The Never Story, but this is another album where there are barely any standouts. The album just sounds like one long song with just lots of beat switches. So obviously the album's great, but nothing here makes me prefer listening to this over The Never Story.
This is so much more eventful, so much more hard hitting, and so much more impressive music than anything else Floyd has put out before it. They were amazing before but Jesus this sweeps.
There's a lot to say about this album even though it's not memorable at all and I'll probably forget I even listened to it in a hot week.
This album has high highs but extremely low lows. It genuinely has some of the worst songs I've heard in my life. And I think that's because this album tries way too hard to be unique & quirky. Some of the songs sound like poorly executed Egyptian covers of a Neutral Milk Hotel song, while the others sound like a jazz band ... read more
Quite impressive flows & production. I expected less starting this album tbh.
Most of the album is just a slightly worse version of what he's always been doing, but the last few songs are actually pretty good coming after some pretty shitty songs. THE LYRICS ARE STILL DOGWATER BY THE WAY.
