Somehow Nostalgia Critic's The Wall has more artistic merit, at least this was a bit more listenable.
'For All The Dogs' should be a lesson in false advertisement, this isn't the old Drake, this is still the new boring bloating-albums-with-wank-filler Drake, how could you do this Drizzy?!?!?!
The latest album from Sufjan Stevens entitled 'Javelin' is a warm, hopeful and intimate ode to the dearly departed, in this case this record is noted as an ode to Sufjan's late partner and it's one that takes the grief and heartache that he has been feeling and turns it into juxtaposing comfort. While I haven't delved very far into Sufjan's work I've heard enough to know about the kinds of styles that he has been accustomed to, and 'Javelin' feels like an amalgamation of a few of his sounds, ... read more
Is it even possible for a Billy Woods related project to be bad??? DROP SOMETHING BAD THIS INSTANT FOR FUCKS SAKE
'We Buy Diabetic Test Strips' is my favourite Armand Hammer project as of right now, the Billy Woods and E L U C I D project have been one of the most prolific, dense and refreshing acts in the hip-hop underground and they've proven so with their last album 'HARAM', admittedly it has grown off me slightly but I won't deny that it's a unique and surreal album that showcased ... read more
Admittedly, I haven't heard enough of Daniel Lopatin's music under the Oneohtrix Point Never moniker, the only album under OPN that I've heard was his last album, 2020's Magic Oneohtrix Point Never which I was pretty lukewarm on when I heard it, outside of that I've heard some of Daniel's film scores too in both the Safdie brothers directed films Good Time and Uncut Gems, but aside from that nothing else really until his latest record 'Again'. I wasn't really expecting too much going into this ... read more
Honestly not as bad as the bald man makes it out to be but then again I'm surprised people still even listen to Lil Tecca in the year 2023. It feels like eons ago since Lil Tecca first blew up with the song Ransom, his biggest single to date, since then he's maintained pretty solid numbers which is respectable but I can say with confidence that I have not heard a single human being talk about him in years, like even in conversations about the more niche sides of modern trap we see names come up ... read more
'DAWN FM' wishes it was this good.
It's been a good long while since a pure dance-pop album has excited me in its entirety, the last one that I can recall leaving that impact on me was Magdalena Bay's 'Mercurial World', but Slayyyter just kinda came out of nowhere with this one and slapped me in the face with it because it's so goddamn good. Admittedly Slayyyter has been a very hit-or-miss artist for me, she's made some bops for sure but no project from her truly resonated with me until now, ... read more
Bop after bop after bop after bop after bop after bop after bop after bop after bop after bop after bop after bop.
At this very moment 'Wallsocket' stands as underscores best album, it's a big leap forward artistically for her and in the context of 2023 music it's one of the best pop albums of the year. I knew of underscores since the release of her 2021 album 'fishmonger' which was another fun pop record that had some great moments even if the ideas didn't totally stick, but in contrast ... read more
If 'PetroDragonic' didn't exist this would probably be my favourite metal release of the year. 'Make Them Beg for Death' is the latest record from Maryland Death Metal band Dying Fetus, and it also happens to be the first record from theirs that I'm hearing and I can't say that I was disappointed because this shit rips. Is it anything different or deviating from the Brutal Death Metal genre tropes? No, flat out, just no, but I don't really care as long as the tunes rip, and they most certainly ... read more
I didn't want to hear, but unfortunately I must commit to my shitty ass not good's list.
I can't really sit here and say I can add more to the Dream discourse, because firstly, I'm in the same boat as 99% of AOTY in regards to his musical output, secondly, I didn't have any real interest in listening to his music and I'm only doing so because of a list I want to commit to, and finally, I simply don't care enough about Dream as an internet personality to take his music career that seriously or ... read more
I was first introduced to Sprain through their 2020 debut album 'As Lost Through Collision', which at the time was an album that I thoroughly enjoyed but as the years went by its effects dwindled on me as it was nothing that was too unique in the grander scheme of things, either way I was eagerly awaiting what would be the next step in Sprain's discography but I still couldn't be prepared for what they would eventually do on their newest album 'The Lamb as Effigy'. Sprain sound like an entirely ... read more
California Soul band Gabriels make quite the impression on 'Angels & Queens', their full length debut album (if we're not counting the part 1 of this project), and simply put, it's one of the most electric and fun Soul records to come out this year. Gabriels feel inspired massively by many sounds, Gospel, R&B, Soul and hell even Disco to a degree, some artistic influences even stem from 80's Soul and R&B artists too, all of those sounds culminate into this album and while that blend ... read more
The latest record from ANOHNI and the Johnsons is a brilliant album in many ways, instrumentally it's gorgeous, vocally it's incredible and lyrically the album is incredibly potent and powerful. Prior to hearing this I had never listened to ANOHNI and the Johnsons, I was familiar moreso with ANOHNI as I've heard her on some of Bjork's past records such as Vulnicura, but with that being said I never got around to checking out much of her work beyond that. That changed with 'My Back Was A Bridge ... read more
Almost 4 years on AOTY and 3,000 ratings later I have finally listened to '98.12.28', the iconic live album from Japanese Dream Pop and Neo-Psych band Fishmans, and not only is it iconic, it's also considered by many to be one of, if not, the greatest live album ever made. Prior to hearing '98.12.28', I had only heard one Fishmans record, that being their iconic 35 minute opus 'Long Season', which is a masterfully crafted and trance inducing piece with some of the most progressive and hypnotic ... read more
'After the Night' is a brilliant live album from Parannoul, the recording takes the set of tracks present from the Parannoul discography and gives them an even more lo-fi and noisy edge, somehow enhancing his greatest musical moments even more than what they already were, and with a 40 minute Post-Rock closer to finish it all off I'm here for it. Recorded in January and released in March, this album contains material mostly from his 2021 album 'To See the Next Part of the Dream', alongside that ... read more
Hoplites is the one-person Black Metal act that's the brainchild of Liu Zhenyang, an artist hailing from Zhejiang China and in recent times he has become one of the most promising talents in the Black Metal scene. He's been releasing records under a couple of pseudonyms but under Hoplites he has released two albums alone in 2023, and the latter of those two releases titled 'Τρωθησομένη' is the one that stands out the ... read more
The latest record from underground producer Aubs Eternal titled 'Underground from the Ground Under' is some of their best work to date, with some of the slickest, most fun and grooviest plunderphonics music you can hear from this year. There's a lot of variety with what you're getting on this album, but it's also backed by slick, intricate and hard-hitting production that's sounds tight and will keep your head nodding, it also helps that some of Aubs best songs appear on this too like the DJ ... read more
At its best it's really fun, at its worst it's awful, but as a whole 'Pink Tape' is a bloated mixed bag of an album. About a year ago or so I decided that I wanted to take a break from listening to new random trap records that come out, mainly because trap these days has become so oversaturated with boring garbage that it became a chore sit through these records, but I will always make exceptions for specific artists and releases that come out, like recently I checked out the latest Young Thug ... read more
Clearly the superior album that dropped on the 23rd of June made by a band named after a waterfowl creature.
I almost missed out on this album, I saw it on the AOTY release page and didn't really pay no mind to it, but considering the only releases that I got to hear from this week were the latest Young Thug and Swans records, I decided something from an artist I hadn't heard of before was the right move, so I went ahead and turned on '3D Country' by Geese ... read more
After almost 4 years since their previous record, Swans return with their latest album entitled 'The Beggar', an album that I was quite excited to hear since it's more or less and event when Swans come out with a new album, but I was also fairly sceptical about listening to it prior to its release, mainly due to the singles for the record 'Paradise Is Mine' and 'Los Angeles: City of Death' coming off as underwhelming to me. After finally getting around to hearing the album though I can safely ... read more
