Understandable why they left most of the material from this off of In Rainbows but there's still some nice songs and ideas on disk 2
Even though production wise this album is very dated it's really nostalgic hearing these songs that I heard when I was younger again, takes me back.
While it has some moments towards the back end that I don't care for, The Battle of Los Angeles for sure has some of the most visceral and powerful moments in Rage Against the Machine's discography.
This album instrumentally, vocally and thematically has a lot to offer but ultimately it lacks identity and can sound quite a lot like her contemporaries
Best Songs: Saving Grace, Crying All the Time and Self Currents
Worst Song: Howl

In all honesty though this album isn't as bad as Revival but it's still a pretty bad album. The production is ok for the most part, it's just more accessible to the mainstream, same thing with the features which were picked specifically for different purposes and it's really obvious of their purpose on each of their songs. Lyrically there's bars on here that are on par with how bad they were on Revival especially on Marsh, Godzilla and Those Kind've ... read more
[EDIT: In retrospect the edginess is pretty off-putting but the core songs and production still works for me]
Ok, what the fuck is this and why the fuck do I enjoy it. This is my first exposure to Darkie and I'm impressed. It's childish enough to not take it seriously especially with Darkie's lyrics as they just come off as childish but he's also talks about serious issues like drug abuse. He's gifted technically as a rapper all while being backed up by hard aggressive, unpredictable ... read more
The lack of variety and memorable songs show that scarlxrds style gets old really quick and the fact that this is his third release this year shows quantity over quality
Smokepurpp has no artistic identity, especially since he rips off so many artists styles and flows
Update:
Please Excuse Me For Underrating This Album

[original review]: Definitely one of the most overhyped figures in melodic trap
This project although it has some good songs fails to prove that Tjay is a stand out figure in the melodic rap wave. He fails to sound original and less generic than his contemporaries. Although there are some good songs the rest seems very filler and generic.
This project is pretty solid. Jay Rock showcases some great storytelling, energy and flows. The production incorporated is more modern and trap influenced and for the most part it works. Although Jay Rock doesn't really showcase much in the way of metaphors and clever lyricism he makes up for it with some great storytelling tracks such as ES Tales and OSOM. The features were really good as well, big names like J Cole, SZA, Future and Kendrick appear on various songs. Jay Rock to me is an ... read more
