'After the Magic' is a fresh indicator for what's to come for Parannoul, with the South Korean Shoegaze/Emo/Post-Rock artist attempting to branch out their sound into clearer, more expansive territories. While I personally feel like the album falters in quality in its second half it's hard to deny that what Parannoul is doing on this album is really creative and its best moments are some of the best tracks that Parannoul has ever came out with, like 'Insomnia' and 'Arrival' which are just ... read more
Even as an avid Mac DeMarco enjoyer (and an avid 'Here Comes the Cowboy defender'), 'Five Easy Hot Dogs' is a record that's a very drab return after an almost four year absence. There's nothing wrong with a good instrumental record now and again but the problem this album has is that it's not a good instrumental record, it's only a pleasant one, and it doesn't exactly go further than just being a pleasant album, in fact it's unmemorable and borderline wallpaper. If you like any and every Mac ... read more
'Yerself Is Fire' is the latest record from Fire Man, a music project from Punk Revolution Now who's music I've been familiar with for a good while now, ever since I heard his EP 'Overcoming the Cycle of Sun Collapse' which was a project I very much enjoyed when I first heard it and upon a relisten one I still do enjoy. I was excited to check this album out for a while now and I wish I could've gotten to hear it sooner but of course real life things and other music listening things got in the ... read more
While not an inherently bad project 'dreamglow' is a fairly mediocre collaborative release from Asian Glow and sonhos tomam conta. Both artists have worked on a project I really love alongside Parannoul called 'Downfall of the Neon Youth', which was a project I loved when it came out and has a similar sonic trajectory that 'dreamglow' has but the latter is nowhere near as captivating as the former, in fact 'dreamglow' feels like a clumsy album that suffers from often uninspired and repetitive ... read more
If you had told me that the first major release of 2023 that I'd be checking out was a Psychedelic Rock album made by Lil Yachty of all people I would've just assumed that you were trolling, but believe it or not, that's just what's after happening and y'know what? It's really enjoyable!
Rappers going rock has a bit of a stained history to say the least, with efforts from artists in the past either being received negatively for being horrendous or just being fairly non-distinct and very bog ... read more
Little Simz is just incapable of missing at this point. Over the past few years the UK rapper has been in her prime creatively and 'NO THANK YOU' is another brilliant addition to her ever-growing catalogue. While it may not be another grandiose behemoth of an album like 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert' or like the stripped-back and gnarly 'GREY Area', it's still another great effort from Simz that showcases more brilliance from her. There's elements in this albums production that carry over ... read more
'I Didn't Mean To Haunt You' was an album that I initially was very sceptical about before going into it, mainly because I was very underwhelmed by Quadeca's attempts at making more "out there" music on his last album as it came off as really inauthentic and tried way too hard. I was still sceptical even when the overwhelming praise this album was getting started to show itself and the singles didn't really do much for me initially either. I wasn't comfortable rating or reviewing it ... read more

"They argue KD1, KD2 or Magic, what's harder when KD3 go harder than all of them?"
I think people are underestimating what we're seeing with Nas' most recent output, it's EXTREMELY rare to see a rap legend like Nas who came from the era of Hip-Hop that he did while also having a notoriously inconsistent discography past his classics (namely 'Illmatic' and 'It Was Written') show up with a consistent run of great albums this late in his career. When was the last time we ever really saw ... read more
'SMITHEREENS' feels like a throwaway effort from Joji this time around, sure there's some moments of brilliance like the gorgeous 'Glimpes of Us' and 'Before The Day Is Over' but it feels kinda slapped together like a collection of b-sides rather than a fleshed out project that shows more artistic growth from Joji. It does encompass a lot of sounds that Joji has done before on previous efforts but only a handful of it really feels complete and memorable, the rest either feels decent but not ... read more
Thankfully not as utterly horseshit as 'Honestly, Nevermind' but once again Drake makes a bad, sleep inducing album, it also just happens to be a collab album with 21 Savage. Don't get me wrong, 21 was definitely the best part of this album but he wasn't exactly providing many standout performances, not enough to carry this project anyway since he's just kinda there while Drake is doing Drake things and spitting some wank bars. Production is dime-a-dozen Trap and not much of it stands out aside ... read more
Smino is a name that I've been aware of for a few years now, I think my first exposure to Smino was on the Dreamville compilation project 'Revenge of the Dreamers III' but since then I never got to check out a project by him until now and I won't even kid anyone, I was blown away by 'Luv 4 Rent'. I didn't expect to love this project as much as I did but Smino just blew any expectations that I had out of the water as 'Luv 4 Rent' is such a versatile yet cohesive project with such a warmness and ... read more
'Changes' is the final instalment in King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's October 2022 run of albums and while it's not the best thing that they dropped this month it's still a really fun album that ends this batch of albums on a high note. The last couple of albums have been these progressive jam band like albums with really funky grooves and jazz-rock instrumentation and 'Changes' isn't too different from that template the band stuck with, except this time the mood is much more understated ... read more
King Richard and the Aphex Twin. So funnily enough I had no idea that 'Made in Timeland' even existed until a couple of days ago, but seeing how much of a dirty King Gizz enjoyer I am I wanted to give it a listen to see what I was missing out on, and what I was missing out on was like half of a really good but mindless electronic piece. King Gizz made another electronic record with 'Made in Timeland' but this time it seems more so like a fun throwaway project rather than something that's ... read more
This band do be jamming though. 'Laminated Denim' is the second album in King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's October trilogy and it more or less follows a similar route to what the lads did on their previous album, not to the same effect unfortunately. It's still good though, it consists of two 15 minute Psych Rock jams that stay in that kind of Jam Band type style that they did on the previous album, they have different Progressive phases and driving Krautrock grooves and they're both pretty ... read more
One of those instances where I desperately wanted to love an album but unfortunately couldn't get fully into it. Gilla Band (formerly Girl Band) have a lot of varied influences, ideas and dynamics across 'Most Normal', it doesn't spare you on the upfront noisiness, loudness and industrial tinges, they wear some of their influences boldly on their sleeves but they also don't feel like they're just doing some pastiche and calling it a day, it has some absolutely standout moments and it's very ... read more
Everyone's favourite Australian genre chameleons are having yet another busy ass year for themselves, probably their busiest year since 2017 and they've dropped yet another banger with Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava (not a long enough title imo). This album sees the band blend more interesting fusions and ideas to the table, a lot of which they are very familiar with but the way that they do it provides an addition to their discography that's honestly refreshing in terms of ... read more
While 'Church' may not be as concise or as mind-bending as his earlier 2022 album 'Aethiopes', Billy Woods once again makes another lyrically dense and stellar record that showcases some his most abstract yet personal and emotional lyricism. At this point coming up with anything new to say about a Billy Woods record is getting redundant as there isn't really much new you can say about the guy and the kind of production that he raps over, he's just one of the most consistently unique and ... read more
