To the shock and awe of absolutely no one, the new Black Midi album is good.
So yeah, Black Midi... bit of a wacky band to say the least, probably the single most whacky band that's out right now but simultaneously they've also been one of the most refreshing and exciting bands out right now, and since I first heard 'Schlagenheim' back in 2019 I have loved their music and have had nothing but undying praise for them. That undying praise is even more ecstatic on my end when the band released ... read more
Prior to this I haven't had the chance to check out Ghais Guevara's music, I know he released the album 'BlackBolshevik' under a different name but 'There Will Be No Super-Slave' is the first record of his that I'm hearing, and I must say I came away really damn impressed, and first impressions of this record is that it's a great, creative, bold and outspoken Hip-Hop record that features some dense, creative production and impressive ability flow wise and lyrically. While it isn't my favourite ... read more
'2000' is easily the weakest album that Joey Bada$$ has ever dropped, it's not bad by any means and it has its moments but a lot of the time the sleepiness of it and the lack of substance really does it a major disservice. Joey shows he's still capable of penning great verses, 'Survivors Guilt' being the best example of this but majority of this album is Joey at his weakest lyrically with a lot of filler bars that don't have much depth and sometimes pretty corny lines here and there, he still ... read more
Jack White's second album of 2022 'Entering Heaven Alive' is a nice deviation from what he did on its predecessor 'Fear of the Dawn', but unfortunately I wouldn't call it one of the more memorable albums to come out recently. It's not a bad album by any means and there isn't a single bad track on it, but it isn't really that interesting to me nor does it really have me looking to go back to it any time soon, it's a decent singer-songwriter album but as it goes on it doesn't really do much for ... read more
The Devin Townsend Binge (1/4) - The Early Era (1/7)
So, almost 3 months ago during a TCT livestream where we reacted to viewers suggestions for best drum tracks of all time our friend and fellow AOTY user Pipe suggested a track from Strapping Young Lad, a band fronted by metal madman Devin Townsend. When we finished reacting to the track I was looking to check out more Devin Townsend related stuff and get some recommendations, which Pipe obliged to and wrote me a list of albums and notes to ... read more
Grindcore that maintains its nasty edge but with eclectic, tight and ambitious songwriting??? Well that's just a recipe for a banger album and Singaporean band Wormrot deliver just that with their 4th album 'Hiss'. This album is just brutality from front to back but it substitutes the typical mindless grind savagery by giving it some nuance and ambition instrumentally and sonically, even going as far as to incorporate minor moments of additional instrumentation like on the final track 'Glass ... read more
Yesterday I was looking through upcoming releases and seeing who was dropping on New Music Friday, I was looking to mark down albums to check out and I saw that Compton rapper The Game was meant to be dropping a new album (which hasn't even dropped yet) but upon realising that I haven't actually ever heard an album by The Game I decided to change that and give his debut album 'The Documentary' a listen, not only that but I felt compelled to review it. I've known about The Game for a few years ... read more
First and foremost, fuck the Supreme Court of the United States. Secondly, this is one of the hardest albums to drop this year. I need to hear more Riot Grrrl records in general but I think it's safe to say that Petrol Girls third album 'Baby' was a pretty great place to have started since it's generally just a fucking killer album. On top of just being a killer album it's also a very potent and powerful one with the band being very blatant and in-your-face about the politics they're talking ... read more
'False Light' is the 3rd album from the Ukrainian Black Metal band White Ward and it also happens to be one of the first projects that I'm ever hearing from them, I knew of them beforehand though because I've seen the cover of their sophomore album 'Love Exchange Failure' around in the past from peoples topsters if I'm correct, but I never got around to checking that album out unfortunately. Well I'm finally getting to hear what White Ward are all about on their latest album which I almost ... read more
'Ugly Season' is only the second Perfume Genius album I've ever heard, the first album I heard of his being the last album he released 'Set My Heart on Fire Immediately' which was a decent Art Pop record even it was a little drab, in contrast though I came away really impressed with what he had to offer on 'Ugly Season' and it made for a really interesting, unique and engaging listen for me. PG's sonic approach on this new album is completely far removed from the sounds of what was on his ... read more
'HONESTLY, NEVERMIND' is the surprise 7th album from Drake and if there's anything major that could be taken away from it, it's impressive how he just gets worse and worse with every album he drops. Drake hasn't dropped anything that wasn't boring filler for years now, some of the lowest points of that filler being the utterly mediocre 'Scorpion' and 'Certified Lover Boy', after all that shit I thought "surely he can't get any worse than this?", well I was wrong because 'HONESTLY, ... read more
By far the worst Post Malone album, and as much as I hate to say this, it's genuinely one of the worst albums of the year so far.
I've always had a soft spot for Posty's music, I will still bump albums like 'Stoney' and 'Beerbongs & Bentley's' on occasion and a few amazing tracks from 'Hollywood's Bleeding', but I can't really say that will be the case for 'Twelve Carat Toothace' since it just showcases him at his worst on so many fronts. It starts off decently to be fair, I really liked ... read more
Discography Diaries #10: Pearl Jam
Album #11: Gigaton
Genre: Alternative Rock
Date: 29/05/2022
Time: 11:15 PM
And just like that, we're at the end of the Pearl Jam discography, and we're finishing on their latest album of course, 2020's 'Gigaton'. Now, up until this point I honestly don't think Pearl Jam have made an album that's bad, they never have, but I will say with that in mind, they have made a lot of really bang average albums and that bang average sentiment came from a lot of their ... read more
Discography Diaries #10: Pearl Jam

We're nearly ready to conclude this edition of the discog diaries with the final two Pearl Jam albums, and the one we're tackling now is the band's 10th album, 2013's 'Lightning Bolt'. I never really asked too much from Pearl Jam's output given how shakey their post-early discography is, there my have a been a solid record or two but they haven't really managed to make an album ... read more
Raw Data Feel... I don't get it. Everything Everything's last album was pretty decent despite its not so great moments but Raw Data Feel just doesn't have a whole lot going for it apart from one song at the end and if I'm being honest I just flat out don't like this album. I knew I wasn't gonna be that big on it since the singles were pretty underwhelming for me but I didn't anticipate to find this album to be as much of a slog as it is, it just bores the shit out of me and whenever it isn't ... read more
Discography Diaries #10: Pearl Jam
Album #9: Backspacer
Genre: Alternative Rock, Hard Rock
Date: 19/05/2022

It's about time that we got to the final stretch of the Pearl Jam discog diaries, and thankfully so since my hopes aren't too high for the band's output hereafter, and with that in mind we're talking about the 9th album by Pearl Jam entitled 'Backspacer'. Their self-titled album was definitely a step in a better direction for the band since it feels like one of the more ... read more
NEW KUNG FU KENNY!!!
At this point in time Kendrick Lamar really needs no introduction, if you've been around the music sphere for the past decade or so then Kendrick has surely made his presence known to you, whether it be from one of his biggest hits or from albums like 'good kid, m.A.A.d city', 'To Pimp a Butterfly' or even 'DAMN.', the latter of those being the last album that we ever heard from Kendrick five years ago. Since then there's been so much debate about when this next Kendrick ... read more
The Chainsmokers suck shit and display why they're one of the worst artists of the 21st century once again, to the surprise of absolutely no one. They're still sticking with the same insufferably generic, lifeless, and shallow brand of EDM that they popularised in the 2010's but this time with slightly "better" production yet even worse vocal processing. Every song practically sounds the same, their piss poor woe-is-me songwriting is just as unlikeable and shallow as it always was, ... read more

Moving on with the Pearl Jam discog diaries we have 2006's... well... Pearl Jam, their self-titled album. So yeah, Pearl Jam.... saying that they were well and truly past their prime at this point in their career would be a massive understatement, they've just made nothing that's worthwhile past their first 3 albums, they've just shown absolutely nothing interesting or ... read more
