I was highly anticipating The Smile's debut album since the first singles started dropping, I was very interested in checking it out since the singles were really damn good and I found myself very interested in seeing what Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood from Radiohead and drummer Tom Skinner of Sons of Kemet fame would create with this new project and yeah, it's pretty good all in all. The highlights are well and truly worth checking out this project for since some of them are genuinely ... read more
While I was expecting a lot more from 'DEATHFAME' it's still a really good album even if it's a little disjointed. The singles Quelle released for this album were incredible which is why my expectations were very high but it seems like those singles are truly the best tracks on the album, there's some really great moments sprinkled throughout the album as well but there's a lot of moments that are pretty hit-or-miss. The production resides in the Abstract Hip-Hop sound that we normally expect ... read more
Discography Diaries #10: Pearl Jam
Album #7: Riot Act

Tfw when your discog diaries was stuck in 2021 and you had no idea. Anyways I'm back on the discog diaries grind, the Pearl Jam dive is back and of course with their 2002 album 'Riot Act'. I'd be lying to you if I sat here and told you that I was excited for the next few Pearl Jam albums, because I'm not honestly and I'm fairly certain that there won't be that much to offer with the ... read more
Fuck the rollout for this album. Seriously. It has absolutely killed the hype behind the sequel to a Hip-Hop classic, why not just put this up on bandcamp where you'll gain more from purchases? No one wants to sign up for some random podcast subscription service that they'll 10000000000000% never use again, it's so dumb holy shit.
Anyways, if you're a Hip-Hop fan than I'm sure Black Star and their classic album needs no introduction, that album and the respective talents of Yasiin Bey ... read more
'WE' is the first Arcade Fire album that I've listened to and I was fairly excited to check it out since the singles were pretty good, and after hearing it finally I think that it's cool for what it is, it's not amazing though or anything that I'd return to that often. The songs on paper have some nice ideas and sounds to them, it's performed well and a handful of the songs are great honestly, but often than not they're held back by some pretty subpar yet pleasant production choices and ... read more
Future made it too easy with the album cover. It's amazing to me how he can essentially make the same album every single time, sure, there's the rare ones that hit, but then there's the majority of them that are just the complete wank and boring as fuck, 'I NEVER LIKED YOU' included. Like every Future album there's a select few pretty good tracks and there's a decent amount of solid production, but as per usual it's mostly average, it's predictable, there isn't enough consistency, there's ... read more
'FACULTIES OF THE SKULL' is a very fun, incredibly cloudy and vibrant project from NARKOSIS, the duo consisting of SLUG BAIT and elitimesfour. It's centred around incredibly atmospheric and cloudy production that in equal parts a vibe and creative, there may be a few moments that feel weird in terms of the mix but outside of those rare moments this album is just great, and I promise you there isn't a hint of bias when I say that, I really did thoroughly enjoy what was brought to the table here. ... read more
In recent times I've grown to love a lot of Death Metal, I still have a lot of classic records and discographies to explore within the genre but I also still need to give a chance to some other more modern bands in this style whether it be the more straightforward ones or the more out there ones, well Undeath came out with their new album 'It's Time...To Rise From the Grave' just in time for me start doing that and all in all this fucking rips from front to back. Undeath take from a very ... read more
Hatchie's sophomore album 'Giving the World Away' is such a blissful trip of an album, it takes you through this reverb-soaked wave of 90's nostalgia and packages it in an infectious, catchy and danceable vibe which in turn makes for the best Pop album of the year so far. Everything on this album is just pure bliss, from the production to the vocals there just isn't a moment where it feels half-baked or boring, it's all pure quality and the way Hatchie culminates the sounds of Dream Pop, ... read more
The 3rd album from Ireland's very own Fontaine's D.C is a pretty good album for what it is, I might've been a little disappointed by the end product given how the amazing singles hinted at this potentially being the band's best so far, but for what it's worth it's still a really good album with plenty of great songs and it's also a bit of a leap forward for them sonically. Personally I prefer the morbid 'A Hero's Death' over 'Skinty Fia' but in contrast the latter features a sound that's more ... read more
'It's Almost Dry' is a serviceable follow up to Pusha T's last album 'Daytona' which is an album that I consider to be his best solo effort and it's an album that I think will go down as a classic in terms of 2010's Hip-Hop, his latest effort is what you'd expect from a Pusha T album, slick coke rap with slick bars and a lot of great beats which are courtesy of Kanye and Pharrell. Push rarely disappoints when it comes to the rapping end of things and he has the bars to prove that all over this ... read more
I love this band so fucking much. 'Omnium Gatherum' is nothing short of a fantastic album and in my opinion it's for sure one of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's best, they're a band that are more or less defined by the array of sounds and ideas that they explore in their music with albums often just sticking to a certain style or theme with experimentation in between, 'Omnium Gatherum' throws stylistic consistency out the window and proceeds to throw more shit at wall in a gargantuan mess ... read more
Billy Woods once again delivers on some of the most quality Hip-Hop to come from the underground in the form of 'Aethiopes', which could possibly be his best work yet. Woods has always been an outstanding lyricist with an incredibly unique flow and he shows you that it's no different on 'Aethiopes' given how layered and dense his lyrics still are. They're dark, they're cryptic, they're personal and most of all they're incredibly thought provoking, and the features spread across this album ... read more
'Chloë and the Next 20th Century' is the first album from Father John Misty that I've checked out, it's an album that I was pretty excited for ever since I heard the single 'Funny Girl' which is still one of my favourite songs of the year, but after finally getting a chance to listen to the full album I can't really say I was all that impressed and I personally find this to be pretty unremarkable and a bit tedious. It's a pleasant album for sure, despite a couple of jarring vocal mixes on ... read more
As far as Daniel Rossen's work goes I'm very much unfamiliar with it, I haven't even heard any Grizzly Bear albums yet but 'You Belong Here' is his first solo endeavour and I must say that I was impressed by what he did on here. It did take me a few listens to fully appreciate what Daniel presented on this project and I'm very glad that I took my time with this thing because with repeated listens it's all the more stellar. 'You Belong Here' is an often breath-taking display of great Folk music ... read more
Discography Diaries #10: Pearl Jam
Album #6: Binaural
Genre: Alternative Rock
Date: 17/04/2022
Time: 3:45 PM
Next up in the Pearl Jam dive we have the band's 6th album, 2000's 'Binaural'. So to say that the past few Pearl Jam releases haven't been doing too much for me would be an understatement, not that they were bad records or anything but they just aren't the most interesting of albums to be honest and it just kinda seemed like Pearl Jam's whole sound was getting a bit stale and ... read more
Instrumentally 'Don't Break the Oath' is amazing, it has some of the best classic Heavy Metal instrumentals I've ever heard... too bad they're ruined by King Diamond's awful falsetto vocals. Also surely I'm not only one who thinks he sounds like Robert Smith from The Cure on a few tracks? That's not really a criticism I just thought it was funny.
Best Tracks: Desecration of Souls
Worst Track: Nightmare
The legendary Jack White's newest album 'Fear of the Dawn' is the first taste I've gotten of his solo work and I have to say that I'm pretty damn impressed with a lot of what Jack presented on here. I'm of course very familiar with what Jack White did with his ex-wife Meg when they were in The White Stripes but it's cool to see that after all these years that Jack has stuck to his guns with his brand of punchy Blues Rock but it's put in a more quirky and artsy type direction. The album ... read more
