Papa Roach - Infest

This is my last resort

Yung Lean - Stardust
40

I've been warming up to Yung Lean for about a year or so, his last album 'Starz' was the most impressed I had ever been with his music and since 'Trip' came out as a single I was pretty hyped to hear 'Stardust', but to be honest it really only peaks with 'Trip' and thereafter it just becomes a bit of a boring slog to get through. Kudos to Lean for some of the ideas he explored for some of the tracks and for the production quality, but it really takes a dip after the first two tracks and the ... read more

Vince Staples - RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART
50

On the plus side this is a little better than his self-titled, the production and the lyrics are better and 'WHEN SPARKS FLY' is fucking incredible, but on the down side a lot of this is very boring and Vince just sounds half asleep for most of the album AGAIN.

Best Track: WHEN SPARKS FLY
Worst Track: PAPERCUTS

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
90

In 2021 no other band managed to have a bigger critical breakthrough than Black Country, New Road, their debut album ‘For the first time’ from the getgo received massive hype in the online music sphere and quickly became one of the most beloved albums of that year, and it was easy to why that was the case and I 100% was behind the hype since ‘For the first time’ ended up being one of my favourite albums of the 2021, my second favourite to be exact. BC,NR were a breath of ... read more

Meshuggah - Immutable

No seriously where the fuck is the mute button.

PUP - THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND
70

While some of the production choices and ideas on 'THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND' don't really work in the bands favour, there's enough fantastic tracks on here to keep me invested. This was one of my most anticipated albums of the year since I loved the singles so much but I can't really say I'm that disappointed since there's still some quality stuff on here, they're still dishing out some infectious, catchy and well-written Pop Punk and Indie Rock that goes off instrumentally and vocally, and ... read more

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Unlimited Love
50

I mean if you like RHCP I don't see any reason for you to not dig 'Unlimited Love', especially since John Frusciante is back in the band and since it's probably one of their better records in years, but that doesn't mean much for me personally. This record has its fair share of good tracks, most RHCP albums since 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' usually do and this album sees the band get back to their sound akin to what they did on 'Californication', 'By The Way' and 'Stadium Arcadium', but that's ... read more

Destroyer - LABYRINTHITIS
80

Admittedly I haven't heard much from Destroyer apart from their last album, and with my lukewarm reactions to the singles that were released for 'LABYRINTHITIS' I wasn't really expecting to get much out of it, ironically though it ended up being one of my favourite albums of the year so far after giving it a couple of listens. Maybe it was just getting used to Dan Bejar's vocal style but I had no idea why I wasn't feeling those particular singles, either way after hearing his newest venture I ... read more

Dream Widow - Dream Widow
70

'Dream Widow' is the Metal side project of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and it's an album that accompanies the film Studio 666 which also has heavy involvement from Grohl as well as his bandmates from Foo Fighters, but this 'Dream Window' project was mainly one of Dave Grohl's own doing and it's one of those records that I honestly didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did. This thing is very far removed from what we typically get from Grohl's main work with Foo Fighters and it's for me at ... read more

mgk - mainstream sellout
20

Expecting MGK to make a project that isn't below average and basic is a bit too much to ask honestly, and it's more difficult to ask for that ever since he decided to go full blown Pop Punk and recruit Travis Barker to inspire a new wave of basic, overproduced Blink era Pop Punk knock-offs. His last album 'Tickets To My Downfall' was just that, a bad, over-compressed and basic Blink-182 knock-off and while it may have given Pop Punk a new lifeline in the mainstream, it was at the cost of an ... read more

Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems
80

'Diaspora Problems' is by far one of the most interesting and unique records to come out in 2022 so far, it's insane in the amount that it manages to package into one project sound-wise but it's also just an insane sounding album in general. Soul Glo blend the sounds of Hardcore Punk, Screamo, Rap Rock, Noise Rock, Trap Rap and even Ska all over this album and it's insane to me that the band were able to do this in a way that doesn't come off as forced or lackluster, it genuinely feels like a ... read more

Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future
80

Redemption, Liberation, Introspection.

For years now Denzel Curry has been proving time and time again that he's one of the best rappers of the modern generation, for me he has consistently been putting out nothing but quality projects, each with their own different feel and we get to witness a new side to Denzel once again on his newest album, 'Melt My Eyez, See Your Future'. MMESYF is coming out about 3 years after his last album 'ZUU', a more commercial yet fun follow up to his masterpiece ... read more

Pearl Jam - Yield

Discography Diaries #10: Pearl Jam
Album #5: Yield
Genre: Alternative Rock
Date: 27/03/2022
Time: 11:10 AM

Continuing on with the Pearl Jam discography we have their 5th album, 1998's 'Yield', the last album the band put out in the 90's. Last time around I checked out 'No Code' which saw Pearl Jam go more into a straightforward, mellow Alternative Rock sound and for me at least it was the first dud in their discography, it just felt like too much of a slow burner and not enough interesting was ... read more

I really hoped that the disappointing singles wouldn't be indicative of a mediocre album from Charli, but unfortunately they were since 'Crash' is a fairly mediocre effort from her, as painful as it is to say. The fact that Charli decided to go in a more straightforward Dance-Pop direction isn't the issue at all, that's far from it, but it's mainly the fact that a lot of the tracks on here just sound very okay for her standards and the lack of consistently great production and sticky hooks ... read more

Pearl Jam - No Code

Discography Diaries #10: Pearl Jam
Album #4: No Code
Genre: Alternative Rock
Date: 14/03/2022
Time: 6:45 PM

We're getting back on track with the Pearl Jam discog diaries with the bands 4th album, 1996's 'No Code' which is an album that left a bit of a retrospective divide on Pearl Jam's discography since it's the album that's often seen as the one where the band just fell off and never recovered back to the quality that their early discography had. So far I've enjoyed at least every Pearl Jam ... read more

Rex Orange County - WHO CARES?
60

Who Cares? Well I certainly don't.

Rex Orange County's new record is actually pretty decent on a serious note, a bit on the predictable side but it has its qualities like how Alex's knack for sticky hooks and melodies shines through, the inclusions of orchestral instrumentation and the crisp production.

Best Tracks: OPEN A WINDOW, WORTH IT and MAKING TIME
Worst Track: 7AM

Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 4
70

'Tana Talk 4' all in all is a really good album and it's a suitable edition to Benny the Butcher's discography, but I feel like this could've been so much better. I guess there were tracks that left me with a sense of "huh, this sounds great and the rapping is good, but is Benny kinda punching under his weight?", it certainly wasn't like that with some of Benny's previous work like 'Burden of Proof' and the first 'The Plugs I Met' EP but I guess I'm with an album of mostly very good ... read more

Blood Incantation - Timewave Zero
60

(Apologies if these feels like less of a review and more a rant, because it is less of a review and more of a rant lol)

Blood Incantation's venture into the world of Space Ambient and Progressive Electronic doesn't really deserve all of the negative fuss that it received from the whiny elitist metalheads, and that's mainly because this album just feels way too inoffensive to be worthy of such heated backlash. Metal elitists are the most predictable motherfuckers on the planet and acting like ... read more

EARTHGANG - GHETTO GODS
60

There may be a lack of consistently sticky hooks and out there ideas on a lot of cuts but for the most part 'Ghetto Gods' is a fun helping of Southern Hip-Hop from EARTHGANG. Quality production, performances, features and songwriting substance will be found in spades on this album as well as the personality to go alongside it, but then you'll also find some fairly generic and half-baked Trap and R&B that takes up a fair amount of the tracklist. I guess if EARTHGANG went in a weirder ... read more

Conway the Machine - God Don't Make Mistakes
80

At this point if you're an active Hip-Hop fan you've more than likely heard of and listened to a Griselda project, they've been incredibly prolific in the rap game over the past few years and with the amount of music that they've dropped collectively and individually as well as having a distinct sound they've more or less left their mark on modern Hip-Hop. While not everything they drop is consistently mind-blowing and at times maybe a bit rinse-and-repeat, they know how to make a great project ... read more

"@ChazzaMaate yeah as much as I've revisited this album over the years I've just never really liked it, the hits are good and there's some tracks that have grown on me over the years, but as a whole album it's just not that impressive in grander scheme of 2000's hip-hop to me. I've always felt like 50 himself was just a middling rapper that was often carried by his beats and artists in a similar lane as him like The Game put out much better records in this similar vein. People shitting on you for not liking this is to be expected, it's still considered a classic, it's whatever tho idrc, that's just how music discourse is for popular albums."
