First heard about this dude from some concert clips of him opening for Ken Carson.
Based off those initial bits I heard, he kinda reminded me of a “better” version of Ian (who was popping off around that time I believe.)
But upon actually exploring this guys music it’s clear that assessment wasn’t really correct at all.
From a hip hop perspective this guy vocally seems to pull a lot more from acts like Bladee, and hyperpop music. And on top of that, a lot of the ... read more
Kendrick dropping a strongly west coast hip hop record after having a massive west coast uniting moment seems incredibly appropriate.
As per usual there’s bangers and songs that make you think, but it definitely leans on the more fun side of things making it stand out a little bit in his discography.

Yeah after 2 listens this goes hard. Idk what else to say.
Musically there’s some strong Wolf era Tyler the Creator influence and a lot of the production is genuinely well put together.
However lyrically and stylistically Detahjae fails to give us a good picture of HIM and what makes him unique as an artist much of the time.

Already was a great mixtape but the additional tracks make it a great album
On release I didn’t understand the appeal of this album but as time goes on I think I’ve come around to it. Lyrically it’ got a rough almost deep fried presentation filled with nonsensical lyrical bragging about money, sex and drugs, and musically it’s filled booming beats that both sound very indebted to the modern rage scene but also reminiscent of the sound Chief Keef helped pioneer. There’s something mindlessly enjoyable about it.
It’s good but man is it a far cry from the Dawn FM tracks in the same vein :/
A fun listen start to back but occasionally it feels like she hides behind the production more than I wish she did
Some of the songs are trying a little too hard to be commercial friendly, and sure you could argue that’s lore related but that doesn’t change the fact that they sound a bit painful.
Love this. Feels like the combination of influences is unique to him, and while the songs are rather short, they rarely feel undeveloped.
Nothing necessarily groundbreaking but it’s a solid and enjoyable debut that does help prove that Million Dollar Baby isn’t all he can do
I don’t usually listen to metal but Jesus Christ this hits hard
