maybe i needed to be there when this dropped, but i didn’t resonate with this album the way other ppl did. she definitely has some great songs on the album and i do like the concept of the album of her reclaiming her sexuality after becoming a mother. there are some lyrics that i feel did not age well/should’ve never been said and some production choices that i question but overall not bad.

album swap w woaeo
i made the mistake of listening to this album while walking instead of at night in my room alone the way it was intended but this is such a chilling album. i didn’t know what to expect going into the album i’ve heard ppl say it’s a little bit heavy but i did not expect it to be this loaded. there were so many things coming in my direction but i loved all of them the synths, guitar, haunting subject matter i was in awe. hearing hard times while walking made ... read more
this was my first time listening to magdalena bay and i wasn't used to this type of sound it took me about 3 times to fully register their sound but once it clicked, it clicked. mica has a great sultry yet airy voice, seamless transitions, great production. i understand why so many ppl were recommending it, just a great album.
favorite tracks: killing time, death & romance, vampire in the corner, tunnel vision
probably taylor's best lyricism and soft yet great production. i've never been a huge fan of taylor's vocals but her vocal performance here kind of shocked me i didn't even know she could sing like that. i really hope she'll tap back into this sound i think this is a great lane for her
favorite tracks: exile, seven, illicit affairs
the album is a little inconsistent when it comes to track placements but she has some great vocals moments. there are trip hop elements, cumbia as well as cumbia rebajada, r&b, but still keeping her artistic identity.
favorite tracks: tenochtitlán, no+sad, autopoiética, amantes suicidas
i don’t like comparing albums but this lp is definitely more focused and concentrated compared to 1000 gecs. great variety when it comes to genres mixing in with hyper pop.
favorite tracks: dumbest girl alive, 757, doritos & fritos, the most wanted person in the united states
based off first listen i enjoyed this album the blending of r&b and electronic was surprising but really fun.
favorite tracks: genius, candy, love is blind
when i first listened to this album in the background it pretty good, but actually listening to it was a different story. while i don't think its a bad album i do think it has its highlights, especially the poppy beats, i think the lyrical content really brings it down. i understand what she was going for but i think she could've executed it a little better.
favorite tracks: good graces, espresso
didn’t feel very strongly about the album besides the singles.
favorite tracks: houdini, training season
not to be #that person but danja should've at least produced a few songs on this album. i think they could've made some really good electropop tracks the same way they did on blackout.
favorite tracks: i wanna go, (drop dead) beautiful, seal it with a kiss, criminal
this was obviously supposed to be blackout 2 so why didn't they keep danja as the main producer...? album is a little inconsistent it feels very much like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.
favorite tracks: out from under, if u seek amy, unusual you, phonography
started at the club and ended up at church.
favorite tracks: its like that, shake it off, mine again, don't forget about us (deluxe)
edit: after revisiting this album wasnt too bad, it was definitely more consistent compared to starboy, there are some boring tracks but nothing too offensive. [65 -> 70]
it could be because i wasnt really invested as much as i wanted to be but a good amount of tracks on this album are boring. will have to give it another listen.
favorite tracks: the hills, acquaintance, earned it
based off my first listen, i still need to fully digest this album, i enjoyed it a lot. the synths throughout the album are so pleasing to listen to and i like the whole radio station concept.
favorite tracks: how do i make you love me?, don't break my heart
